Once you already have chapped lips WATER is the enemy! You need chap stick, or oils on your lips. Don't lick them either.
Good luck! I like Bees wax..![]()

Thanks,Pam.

Anytime!!!!!I see you asked why? Plain old chapstick is thick! It stays put for a few hours (with no licking) Any product that is thick will work for the lips better. But i have been desperate before and put olive oil on them...YUK, you wont want to lick or pick at them!

CARMEX!
I swear by that stuff. I'm prone to horribly chapped, cracked, bleeding lips when the weather turns cold.
This is the ONLY stuff that has ever worked on me.
You can pick it up just about anywhere. It's usually at checkouts, in a little yellow circle tin. It's under $1 too, I believe.
Hope that helps!

Wow,the cheap stuff actually works,huh???Cool.Thanks.

Stay away from anything with tingly stuff in it like phenol or menthol. Such analgesics can irritate healing lips, as in my case. I avoid tingly Chapstick, Blistex, and Carmex for that reason. Regular Lip Smackers aren't going to do the trick during the winter months, so look into some heavy arsenal.
For badly chapped lips, I swear by the Neosporin brand. It doesn't have antibiotics in it, but it does have other powerful analgesics in a base of petrolatum, cocoa butter, and oils. I have badly peeling lips that bleed and crack, and that lip ointment did the trick.
Burt's Bees lip conditioner. The beeswax and honey really penetrate. Comes in stick form, or a little round tin.
burts bees, the new honey kind because pepermint oil can bother really chaped lips.its very thick and works very well. its all natural and it doesnt have any petroleum products which i like because anything on your lips you will end up eating, and eating a tube of petroleum is scary to me.
i also find that if my lips are super dry im not drinking enough water.

I actually drink the suggested 8-10 glasses a day.I think it's the dry winter weather wreaking havoc on my lips.

I don't like wax-based chapsticks, they seem to require you to keep putting them on or have peeling/bleeding. I prefer oil-based stuff.

Anybody ever try Vaseline?
I always use a thick swipe of vaseline on my lips before bedtime. Works great. I'll also use it over a little lip pencil to give myself a little color.
Vaseline works very well! It also adds a gloss as well while the lips heal.Originally Posted by AngelEyezXYZ

Personally, I don't care for anything petrolium based, or heavily wax based. I use Reviva Vit. E. stick, it has some wax in it, but it works well. I use it on my lips, under my eyes, & the sorest spot, my nostrils, from constantly blowing my nose due to allergies. Anyway, it is a great protective softner for lips, it sells @ Ulta, Whole Foods, & health stores, also revivalabs.com

In the cold weather when we turn up the heat, it dries up all the moisture in the air. When I get really chapped lips and I'm drinking enough water, I use Burt's Bees and then keep the humidifier on. I used to only use it in the bedroom at night, but now we have one in the bedroom and in the living room. They run for the entire morning and then again later at night. My next house is going to have a humidifier built into the heater system.Originally Posted by onlythebest
Oh, I second whoever said not to use the chapsticks that have menthol or whatever in the them to make them tingly. If I use Carmex when I have chapped lips, it makes my lips peel/flake around the edges of my lips. Ouchie.
Oh, and my doc said that even people who drink 8-10 glasses a day need to up their intake slightly in the winter (or when they go to hotter climates) to account for the lesser humidity.

The strange thing is,I have lived in drier climates like Vegas and California and have never had this problem there.Dunno why.You would think Louisiana would be moist enough.

Actually, the Carmex stuff is very good for cracked lips. It heals them right up, and doesn't irritate them. Everyone's different, though. I've tried the Neosporin versions, and they have done nothing for me.Originally Posted by Krazyjane
OTB.. Yep, the cheap stuff works the best. I've found that to be true with pretty much everything. Price doesn't equal effectiveness. Try out a few things that have been mentioned here, and you'll find one that works best for you in no time.

Guess it depends on the person but I also swear by Carmex, Aveeno Active Naturals lip stuff in the little pot, and I love the new Blistex Lip Infusion. I like the Lip Infusion during the day by itsell or over lipstick and before I go to bed I put either the Carmex or Aveeno stuff on.
Also a humidifier is a really good to have in the winter months.

Yep, LV.. I swear by it too. It burns when you put it on a bit.. But, if you have horribly chapped and cracked lips like I do, it's a RELIEF. Haha. And I shit you not, the next day, they are 100% better.
I haven't tried the Lip Infusion yet.. Sounds like something I wanna try though! Does it have different flavors, or just the standard blistex type-thing?

The Blistex Lip Infusion is only one flavor I guess you could call it. Love the stuff.

The Aveeno stuff is pretty much just like Carmex. I like them both.

i read a long time ago about the vaseline... you put a big, thick layer on your lips, then you wet a regular face towel with hot water and hold it up to your lips for a few minutes. remove the towel and when you wipe, all the skin comes off leaving your lips nice and smooth. it really works too... i was suffering from this problem and did it this morning
Wow.. I've never heard that. I'll have to try it sometime. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks, LV.. I'll be checking out that new Blistex!

I am gonna have to try that.Originally Posted by AngelEyezXYZ
