    Default at home electrolysis

I just bought an electrolysis.Any one else try the at home version (sallys$30).Mine works perfect.I can tell when it works because your hair follicle starts melting away(ewww...but hey it works) the hair just falls out of the pore. My eyebrows are less sensitive(using level3) to it but my legs hurt horrible at level 1.The discomfort is like a small stinging pain. Anyway just curious if anyone has had true permenant results with the at home version?

wow, the home version actually does something ?! Wish I knew this before I spend $500+ on going to the electrologist for 2 months, only to have everything regrowing back. First I was told it'll only take a few sessions, but then they acted all surprized when it was growing back (and in fact seemed like there was more), and I kept seeing the same people in the waiting room, and realized I was suckered in. I did the research, too, and went to the most reputable place in my city. I read up some more and found out it could be a loooong time before a hair indeed stops growing back, and since you can't tweeze in between visits you'd need to grow it all out for your weekly or bi weekly visits for a year or two, or more... Oh, and it really hurt. I had tears streaming down my face every time, and I usually have a high pain tolerance.

How it works is a tiny needle goes right into your hair follicle and an electric current zaps it, presumably destroying it, so hair stops growing. Also, I read that if you've been tweezing for a long time your follicle is distorted and results will be different, plus hair is tougher.

Still, am curious to try the one from Sally's; thanks for the tip. Would be funny if I got a better result from it than from a licensed electrologist.

It leaves a red mark of course but when i did my eyebrows they were red for about a day and then they were fine. Putting aloe vera on might bring down the redness . just if your doing it on public areas save it for your day off so you dont go out with a red dot on inbetween your eyebrows like me.

I hear laser works better...and the prices at one place (the link is in the Thailand Cosmetic surgery thread with Mermaidnz) weren't so bad.
I'd be worried about doing electolysis, but if it works for you, let us know.
Also--I thought you were supposed to shave before the process?

Electrolysis is something that should only be done by a proffesional.

If you don't know what you're doing you can permanently scar yourself, destroy nerves, increase oil and sweat production, and have scabs and blisters.

The sally home electrolysis kit sucks because the needle is so thick, no wonder it hurts so much! when electro is done properly the only sensation you should feel is the heat of the electrical current, and there should be minimal bleeding.

When a properly sized needle is used you shouldn't feel it at all going in. And when you tweeze the hair be sure you are using very precise tweezers (tweezerman makes good ones) because if you tweeze the wrong hair you will defeat the purpose of electrolysis and cause a severe infection.

Waxing yourself is one thing, but when needles and electricity is involved, and because it's such fine work and it is recommended to use a magnifying lamp (you can't compromise visibility ) i think you should see a pro. Anyone who tells you it takes only a few treatments is lying - it takes up to 3 years! and even then it's no 100% guaranteed removal

Regarding laser - It isn't considered to be a permanent hair removal method, but from personal experience it's as good as Electrolysis: Same price (over all), same result, but less pain

Dark skinned and Light haired people aren't good candidates for Laser, for these people electrolysis is the only option
