Gosh, there's tons of 'em! In my area, we have playitagainsports.com, also w/regular "stores" that sell them, & sports equp. @ a discount (they're used), Anyway, I have a manual one from Denise Austin (from qvc shopping chanel) that came w/an instructional/exercise tape. TG my neighbor @ the time put it together for me, or it'd still be in the box. I like it, I'm just lazy about using it. I think I need more toning, but it's good for cardio, I guess. I would search around on the internet, & compare prices/features, etc, whatever you're looking for.

Thanks! I totally forgot about the resale equipment stores. I'm stoked on getting one. I like to jog, but I hate the cat calls and stuff like that if I go jogging outside.

I have a proform treadmill from Sears. It was $600.00 and has 0-10mph, 0-10% incline, a wide belt and it is very smooth running. (i.e. when you change incline or speed while moving). I have had mine for over a year and have been really happy with it. No problems at all. IMO, I don't think spending more money will neccesarily get you a better treadmill. I've seen some Wal-Mart brands that are $300-400 that are similar to mine. I've also seen some that are thousands of dollars that aren't as good as mine. I looked for a long time at many different stores, but Sears had the best selection of brands and a good variety of price ranges.

I saw a commercial for an eliptical (sp) type machine from Bow Flex that looked cool, kinda a tread/stair climber thingie, but, they send you out a Dvd/Vid. demo / sounds like big $$$

Basically you get what you pay for, so I'd stay away from the real cheap ones. I would look at one in the $600-$1000 range.

Eliptical is the way to go. Treadmills are good, but they start to weight heavy on your knees and lower back. With the right eliptical, you can work your back, arms, legs, shoulders all at the same time.

If you want a treadmill, I would buy a Life Fitness. It's one of the best brands on the market (many health clubs use them). They're very pricey though (I think $1,500 to $2,500), but they have a proprietary cushioning system called "FlexDeck." Basically, the tread is very springy so it reduces the shock to your knees. I wouldn't buy from PlayItAgain sports, just cause you don't know who the prior owner is, and it's difficult to tell the wear and tear on the machine (plus PlayItAgain puts insane markups on their used equipment). That being said, used is a great way to go, as many people buy treadmills, use them for a couple months, and then end up using them as a $2,000.00 clothes hanger, but I would check ebay, craigslist, local papers, etc.. If you want to buy one new...just go to www.lifefitness.com and look up a dealer.

I bought my treadmill from Sears 4 years ago, and it only cost $400. It still works great; I have never had any problems with it. I don't think it's necessary to spend over $1000 to get a good quality treadmill.

Oh man, I soooo want a treadmill of my own !

I am awful about hitting the gym to use the cardio equipmemnt there The combo of pole work for upper body and daily walking on the treadmill is the perfect regular workout for me. I like to watch something on TV while walking and I have been wanting to buy one of those video walking tours from famous places round the world.

Yes, so true! I have slight back & knee probs, & they get aggravated by a lot of walking/standing.

I'm actually considering either one of those mini trampolines. a stripper pole, or, it's called the Easy Shaper, works buns, thighs abs.

Thanks for all the great advise. I feel more comfortable buying home exercise equipment. I looked at the ellipticals and I really like them. I have used them a few times before and I think that is the way I am going to go. I am strapped for cash at the moment and want one to help better my income, that along with wanting to be healther as I get older are the main reasons I want to get one; so till the cash flow is better I think I am going to go with the Tony Little Gazelle. He's got 3 different ones that I could find and are all very reasonable. I appreciate all your help. I will post about it after I choose a piece and use it for a while about wether I like it or not.

My treadmill was like $800 from sears and i think that included delivery and maintence.I rarely use mine though because I hate impact workouts. I plan to trade mine for an elliptical(sp).

I bought mine off of HSN and LOVE IT. It was around $600 and what i like about it was I used the flex pay. They took $146 out of my checking for 4 months. I didnt have the $600 up front so this worked out perfect for me.
Plus it only took me 30 minutes to put it together. It was sooo easy.

Check it out. I forgot to add I got it in 5 days. I love HSN!

I have NordicTrack - treadmill and eliptical - I am very happy with the quality of equipment although I am not happy with the infrequency in which I use them . The wife does the tread and I do the eliptical . In a brave attempt I got back on it today and did my past normal routine whew ! It feels really good when the hr hammers down for a while 149 - 139 was my hr most of the second half of the workout.I bought mine from Sears and many times a year they have a clearence with no interest kind of deals . Well thanks to this thread my ass is back on the machine woooohoo ! Price range 500 to 700 bucks.

Another vote for ellipticals! I have one in my basement, which I found online for $450 a couple years ago.
