    Sad Calling All Computer Geniuses!!!

My computer is messed up. It thinks there's no sound card, but in reality, there is. I've tried everything. I took it to a pro. No one knows what's wrong.. boo hoo..... do I have to buy a new one? none of my programs will run because there's no audio device.......

What kind of soundcard do you have?

Is it a native motherboard audio product or one that you add to a PCI slot?

What operating system are you running?

    What programs refuse to run?

    Who has looked at it?

    How about some more information?

soundcard looks like a small box (the size of a pack of matches or so) connected to the motherboard

windows XP proffesional, but it didn't come with any disc or anything, just a sticker on top of the tower with the code

took it to a lady who has some kind of computer repair business, but she did me a favour

games won't work, some programs won't install, winamp gives me an error message....

Sounds like some of your files have corrupted, and re-installing or repairing a Windows installation could solve this, but without a Window's CD, the only thing you could do is possibly re-install some of the programs that aren't working.

I had something similar happen to my laptop a few weeks back.

My desktop would not load properly. I'd have to ctrl-alt-delete, go to the task manager, cancel everything, log-off the user and then log back on to get my desktop back. However, it would not recognize that I had a sound card.

    Is your desktop loading properly?

I finally ran the disk error checking tool and it must have found some errors and repaired my hard drive because it worked after it finished. Also try to run defrag before doing the disk error check. You'll have to set the disk check to run then it'll run at the next re-boot.

    Good luck.

Seems like your sound card drivers are missing or your sound card is disabled accidentally.

Click on START button > then CONTROL PANEL > PERFORMANCE & MAINTENCE > SYSTEM

Under SYSTEM, click THE HARDWARE TAB, then click on DEVICE MANAGER.

Now tell me if there is something listed called "Sound Video, and game controllers".
Click the [+] box next to the listing and tell me if you see anything listed, and if there is
a RED X anywhere on the drivers....

If you dont have the disk for the drivers, which may be included on the Windows disk, find out the name of the sound card ( a PC repair place can do this for you) and go onto the internet and od a search for it.

Download the file to your desktop if it asks you to when you have found it and install it on your computer by going to device manager, double clicking "Sound Video, and game controllers", driver and then 'update driver'.

    Meea,
You should be able to get an XP Pro "restore disk" from whatever business sold you the computer, if they also supplied XP which it soulds like they did.

Also the person who did you a favor did not really do you a favor. Find another repair person or talk to some knowledgeable people in your local weekly computer club. Those people will help a pretty girl. Believe me. (It's like a guy flexing his muscles on a beach.)

Let's not get our computer solution problems mixed up here.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

Yea, sounds like a sound card failure or possibly a connection failure..

if windows does not see it at all in the device manager then its most likely a connection issue or the card

    what you can do is:
    Go to control panel
    double click "system"
    Go to the "Hardware" tab
There should be something with an exclamation mark on it.
IF you right click and "update driver"

See if it will find the correct sound driver for it.
