    Default Flat iron huge rave!

Been using Chi forever, just got the Solia off www.folica.com, and it rules! My ends always looked frizzy no matter what I did. Now the result is perfection, it doesn't feel like hair is being damaged in any way, and it feels sooo silky! This iron can be used even if hair is slightly damp, and it's easy to flip the ends. Whoo!

See, the thing with chi is a lot of people say it breaks easily. So I had to get a back up, and have to say solia kicks chi's ass! It's new, yes, and kinda different, because of tourmaline. Just feels much healthier, and my hair is a lot more shiny and soft, plus you can control the temperature. Also it's cheaper than chi. Folica carries all the irons, and there are tons or reviews for each. I read most of them before deciding.

^^ wow thanks for mentioning the solia one. Its slightly cheaper than the Chi. Nice that the plates move with your styling.

I own a Chi. Im 1/2 black so I wavy curlly hair thats also thin and it works great. Ive had it about a year now and havent had any problems with it at all. Still heats up evenly too.

Girls, I got the SEDU off folica.com.. I picked it over the Solia after reading tons of reviews..its rated higher..but no matter what I can't get the results I want. I have thick wavy hair..and Ive tried various products but I can't get it shiny and flat, its either too greasy or pouffy and not shiny. It also doesn't stay as straight as a lot of girls who use these expensive irons say it does..What am I doing wrong?

Ive never heard about the Chi breaking? I have the Chi Turbo and LOVE it... can make any style I want with it - including curls - ... had mine for over a year and no problems.

What about that iron in the informercial? I can't think of the name. The inventor of it has frizzy curly hair himself.

^^ maxiglide? if that's the one, Seraya posted about it in a products thread and it sounds great. I could be wrong, tho.

Viviana, what are you putting in your hair prior to straightening and afterwards? The main complaint I heard about Sedu is that it doesn't get close enough to roots and leaves about an inch of wave. In any case, here is the stuff I use: Giovanni or Kiehl's leave in condish., Kiehl's silk heat protectant cream - all this in wet hair after wash/cond., and then airdry, and right before straightening L'oreal vive smooth intense anti frizz serum, and/or Alberto VO5 heat defense conditioning spray. When all straight I run some more L'oreal thru hair for shine, and put a little Pantene texture and shine defining pomade on ends and flyaways.
Used to have Phytodefrisant (sp?), and it supposed to work really well to keep it straight (apply after washing). Also Redken carries something called 12 hour align ultra straight. Oh, and Aveda has anti humectant pomade that supposed to be good. Since your hair is wavy you may not need the amounts I use, but some of the stuff may work for you.

Does Sedu have different temperature settings and maybe your hair needs the highest? Are you doing one inch sections at at time?

I used the Chi for a couple of years and thought it was the best thing in the world...then I tried the tourmaline flat iron from T3 and am hooked on it. it's way faster, hair doesn't have to be totally dry, and it makes my ends feel healthy, even if they aren't. it sounds like this solia one is similar.

I got it at sephora but I've seen it on the web for less.

Pissymissy, that is strange because my sedu is so small (I think I bought the 1.5") that it gets very close to my roots... As for products I've tried using Frizz ease, Redken Straight, Matrix Sleek Iron Smoother spray, Redken #18 (I think instant dry) Hairspray as a protectant (my stylist told me that one), Redken Satinwear, some protectant spray from Sally Beauty called Ion something which is horribly greasy. I did notice a big improvementin the initial result when I started using very small sections, but after a while it poufed up again! Theres so much out there I don't know what to try, but Ill look for the products you mentionned. The thing is, I have really healthy unprocessed hair, this shouldn't be so hard!

Biolage makes a terrific product called smoothing serum, It is fabulous. My stylist uses it and she got me hooked on the stuff. It only takes a few drops and I use a flat iron on my hair every day. Usually.

Plus my hair is not curly but wavy and this smoothing serum is incredible. Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Crow, does it have alcohol in it? I stopped using Frizz-ease for this reason. I am trying to maintain the health of my hair as much as possible!

Dunno, My hair is colored and I use it a lot. I had terribly damaged hair. All I can say is search the site and see if you can find a list of ingredients.

I love the Ion heat protectant spray from Sally Beauty. It is kind of greasy if you spray too much. Just spray once on each section, and hold the bottle about a foot away from your hair, so that the mist goes onto your hair, not a direct shot of it. It keeps my hair straight and frizz-free all night, and it only costs about $6.

I got a T3 Tourmaline iron a few months ago and LOVE it! I also got the blow-dryer and it's the best I've used. I still have long hair, and I can go a bit longer between cuts now because my ends don't get as damaged from it. The dryer and flatiron also leave my hair very soft. Good stuff!

Madison I barely used ANY of that Ion spray and I would hold it far away and STILL greasy!
