    Default Aspirin mask

Has anyone ever tried this? I was on makeupalley.com and people were raving about it. I have done it a couple of times and noticed a difference in the feel of my skin. I'm hoping that done on a regular basis it will help clear up redness from old acne scars on my face. It is also supposed to help with mild acne because it is a salicylic acid treatment.

To use this, you are supposed to buy non coated aspirin... dissolve five or six into a teaspoon or two of water till it forms a paste. Put on face till it drys, then wet face a little and scrub your face. It has done wonders on making my skin smooth so far.

Love aspirin mask! Yeah, I get the uncoated ones at the dollar store, since it's the only place I can find that kind around here.

It get rids of blackheads, shrinks zits, and clears your pores, thus making them look smaller, because aspirin is salycilic acid (however you spell it, lol), aka beta hydroxy, and while alpha hydroxy works well for the surface damage (sun, aging), beta works within the pore and has antibacterial properties.

Just remembered, I think aspirin toner is made with apple sider vinegar (some people swear by it, Braggs brand) with aspirin dissolved in it. Also heard of witch hazel and aspirin in it. So much to try...

Another rave for the aspirin mask! Love love LOOOOVVVEEE it!!!
Can't beat it for price and effectiveness.
Make sure the aspirin are UNCOATED - I get a huge thing of CVS brand uncoated.
Usually I mix about 8-10 aspirin in a bathroom cup with a little bit of water to make a thick paste. I put it on my face, scrubbing lightly while I do that, then leave it on for @ 5 min. It flakes off, and might make you sneeze. When I wash it off, I scrub again. My skin feels soft and clean. Sometimes if I'm in a rush I do it in the shower, then shave or something while I am waiting a few min. for it to work.

my bad. just took a look at makeup alley and aspirin toner is made with hot water (so it dissolves), and a little aloe vera. 3.5 oz water and 5 or more aspirin tabs. some say it's as good as tendskin minus alcohol. also there's an aspirin mixed with yogurt mask (plain non fat kind). double whammy, as milk in yogurt is lactic acid. apple cider vinegar is a toner by itself. try mixing half water half ACV, as it's strong by itself.

I love aspirin masks, my skin looks so much better after I do one.... I just buy generic aspirin, put a few on a plate, mash it up with the back of a spoon & mix it w/water.. it works pretty well.

^^I did exactly this and WOW you guys!!! Once I washed it off (after 10 minutes) my face looked the way it did after I got microdermabrasion. Even my boyfriend noticed. If not for Stripperweb I never would have heard of the aspirin mask, so thanks everyone!

I have a question about the aspirin mask, if anyone knows....For people who are allergic to aspirin (facial swelling),could this mask cause an allergic reaction by being absorbed in to the skin?

Yes, salicylic acid can be absorbed into the skin...it usually isn't recommended for pregnant women for that reason.

If you want the glowy effects of the mask without the aspirin, I'd suggest a microdermabrasion mask.

    Aspirin Mask Variations:
    If you have dry/sensitive skin:
You can use yogurt instead of water (grind up the aspirin).
    Chammomile Tea instead of water

    For oily/acne-prone skin:
You can also use aloe vera juice (full strength- you can find it at the health food store or trader joe's)
apple cider vinegar (use 1 tbspn-1/2 cup)- not for sensitive skin
lemon juice (same as above)- not for sensitive skin
    Peppermint Tea (full strength)
You can add tea tree essential oil to your aspirin/water mix (just 2-3 drops)
dissolve about 4 aspirin in 1-2 tbspn of hydrogen peroxide and 1 capsule of activated charcoal to make a thick paste. apply it as a spot treatment for acne. This wrks really well, IMHO.

I always like to finish off my mask with an application of chilled cucumber juice and green tea. It's great for soothing your skin.

    Oh, and don't forget...

You can use a diluted version to prevent ingrown hairs in your bikini area. My friend uses an aspirin toner on her bikini area, and she hasn't had problems with ingrown hair down there.

    4oz witch hazel
    4oz aloe vera juice
    four uncoated aspirin.

She also applies this on her face in the t-zone as well. If you have dry skin, you can just use aloe vera juice instead of the witch hazel.

Wow, what a great thread. Very informative. I'm going to give this a try but I have one question first. How long is recommended for sensitive skin? Thanks!

I'm not sure but I leave mine on for about 10 minutes and I don't consider my skin particularly sensitive. Maybe start at about 2 minutes just to see how your skin reacts?

btw, I can never find uncoated aspirin so I just buy the coated kind and rinse the coating off under running water, it comes right off. It works nice as a scrub too. I mix mine with honey and it makes my skin super soft.

no, it doesn't matter. but you should wash the coating off otherwise you get these flakes that you can't chop up and they might be scratchy on your skin.

You can also get it at a lot of drug stores. You;re more likely to find it as a generic brand rather than a brand name.

Thanks. Should I refrain from other treatments prior to trying this mask? If so, do you think one week would be long enough?
