    Default Vegas Hotel suggestions?

Hi I was hoping for some help/suggestions. I'm going to Vegas to work next month and have gotten confused in the sea of hotels that are in the area. Any suggestions on hotels that aren't too expensive, but don't look that way? (don't want to stay in a scarey hotel.. lol) I'm going with three other girls, so the room costs will be shared, just a matter of finding a place. I've only been to Vegas one other time, which was for vacation and I stayed at the Mirage.. not quite the price range I'm looking for this time around.

    Any help is appreciated

Motel 6. Cheap, sometimes get internet deals, and the one on Tropicana is just across the street from the Luxor. Clean, speedy about fixing things that might be broken, and relatively safe (the operators don't mind sending out security.) I've always been pleased when I stayed there. Minus point: no tub, shower only

The Hearthside Inn just south of Tropicana on LV Blvd sounds like what you are looking for. Do a search and book direct, it's cheaper. They have a weekly rate and have kitchens. I think the last time I stayed there it was $220 per week.

An inexpensive casino would be Arizona Charlies on Decatur. Book through tripres.com (if this isn't a good link let me know and I'll look it up), I got 4 nights in May with a Sat night for $196.10 including taxes. Not fancy, but clean and acceptable, you don't have to use valet parking as there is a lot right next to the bld with a side entrance. The lot also has 24hr security.

    Good luck

How "not too expensive" are we talking?

Most of the cheaper hotels are toward the north end of the strip (Sahara, Stardust, Riviera, Circus Circus, Stratosphere), downtown (pretty much any place except the Golden Nugget), or waaay off the strip (Boulder Highway). There are also some "locals" casinos scattered about town with cheap rates (Palace Station comes to mind). If you plan on cabbing to the club, you may want to consider distance to the club you wish to work at as much as what the hotel room costs.

Of the major casinos, I've found the best mix of price and amenities at the Las Vegas Hilton. It's on Paradise Road off the north end of the Strip (between Desert Inn and Sahara). Rates there tend to be lower than the other resorts, and I've not had a bad experience there.

Another chain I've had experience with in other towns is Extended Stay America. These places are good for week-long stays or longer, and have full kitchens as well. There are two locations in Las Vegas - one off Valley View (west of I-15) near the Rio, and one on Boulder Highway in the eastern part of Vegas.

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions.. I really appreciate it I hate having to decide on behalf of three other girls.. *sigh*
One wants to be near things (ie: wants to be able to go tanning easily)
One wants things to be inexpensive.
We all want to be fairly close to the club (Cheetah's)
We're going to be there for 11 nights.. some hotels don't even allow you to book that many nights...

Doc I was referring to costs similar to the Mirage. From what I remember that cost me a fortune the last time, but I was on vacation so I didn't care *g*.

I'm thinking the North end since that is closer to the club.. but again.. damn....
I never realized I signed up to be a travel agent.. lol
Researching the suggestions you all have been nice enough to supply... thanks again!

I just got onto Orbitz and Expedia and I cannot believe how the presence/absense of a convention in LV affects the room rates, even during midweek.

Speaking of which, if you plan on being there for CES, Jan 5-8, I would hurry and book something, as a lot of the hotels are already sold out, and expect to pay premium prices for a not so premium room. For example:

These are rates from Expedia for the Sahara (a generally inexpensive North Strip hotel). This is for 2 people/1 room.

Tuesday January 3 through Saturday January 7 (CES week)
    $35 $269 $399 $399 $187
Sunday January 8 through Saturday January 14
    $36 $36 $36 $36 $36 $115 $115
Sunday January 15 through Saturday January 21
    $79 $79 $73 $73 $73 $129 $129
Sunday January 22 through Saturday January 28
    $36 $36 $36 $36 $36 $119 $119
