    Default Is 100 enough?

I have a question. A close friend of mind wants to me to be in a art book. He has shown me what he has so far and it is tasteful. It's a nude photo shoot. He will manipulate the picture by changing the background and fixing any flaws I might be showing. I have to sign a waiver that relinquishes my rights to the pictures. He will have the copyright. I won't have a say so as to which pictures will go in the book according to waiver either. He has had 7 girls shoot for him so far and pays them 100 dollars, 3 of them he knew the rest he got through an advertisement he did. What do you guys think?

All I can say is read what you are signing even if it takes you a few extra minutes away from the shoot. Itll be worth it. Just so you know exactly what youre getting into.

How long is the shoot? I would take it if it was 1hr/$100 but it depends on the area.

Yeah, $100 for ONE HOUR is ok, but any longer, he needs to up his pay.

if it is indeed a hundred bucks for the whole hour, then i agree it's not a bad amount

If he says he will "do something" but isn't willing to put that "something" in a contract, that's a potential problem. Once your picture is taken, it's for-ev-er. If you have limits, make it clear to him ahead of time what limits you have. You might ask him for references. And contact those references.

Models do art nudes for free, for $10-15/hour at art schools, to $150/hour if they find someone to pay it. There's no set price, particularly for someone who doesn't regularly model. If you're shooting for one to two hours, $100 is a reasonable fee if you don't regularly model and if he's an accomplished photographer.

I do modeling like this with one guy and he pays me $150-250 an hour.....$150-topless-$250 nude....I would only do it if it is $100 /hr.

    And yes,read the contract carefully.

    Best of Luck!!!

Jay, the pictures were what I would consider tasteful. Nothing pornographic at all in nature. No showing pink, legs closed pretty much. He is a good friend of mine but not what I would call "established".

grnidlady...ask him. Like Zenos advice its best to set everything; limits, times, how long, type of modeling before the shoot so no one is confused. That way he doesnt ask you to stay or ask to do something that wasnt planned.

Its best to get the amount you are getting and the number of hours on the contract. Hell write it in if you have to.

Green, it all depends on what it's worth to you. If he's a good friend, and you can trust him, and if, IF, you don't mind these pictures of you being out in a book or online somewhere, then charge what you think it's worth to have those pictures out there.

It really goes all over the board. There's a lot of models who feel that they can get hundreds per hour, and that's true, IF they find the client. A very established photographer will laugh in their faces when they quote their rates - he's used to people paying HIM (or her) for the work.

There's also plenty of guys out there who just want to take pictures of nekkid wimmen (go figure), and they will find the path of least resistance, which may mean that they pay $150/hour to someone.

In this case, he's a good friend. If you respect the work that he's trying to do, then whether you haggle another $50 or $100 out of him, or not, isn't going to matter to you 10 years from now. What's going to matter to you is where those pictures are and who's looking at them. If you are happy with being in his work, I'd still say that $100 for one or two hours is just fine. I guarantee you that he can find a nice-looking model to do art work for him for $50/hour. The question is whether YOU want to be in his art work.

If its a friend and a tasteful art book? $100 isnt too bad. Do the friend the favor and say yes. I mean, I do shoots for friends for free, $100 isnt too shabby!

For me, it wouldn't be close to enough. Photos are too permanent, like tatoos, you would have to pay me a LOT of money for them.

If you like his work and you want to be in the book, $100 is more than enough. If you're just doing it for the money and don't really want the photos out there, $100 isn't nearly enough.

Lena, I like most of it, however, there are some pictures that are slightly disturbing. Like for instance I saw one picture he did where he put a beast inside a woman. He knows what I like and what I don't. No, if I was doing for just money then 100 bucks wouldn't be enough. His wife and I are good friends too. I don't think she would let him do anything with the pictures she wouldn't want him doing with her pictures.

Pamela you are right. I love this couple to death but the man is a bit weird. I know his wife has did hooking before and he has asked me to do it as well. I don't need to hook and if I ever do it won't be for anyone but myself. I won't judge though. We have been friends since I first start dancing. The wife works with me. I just notice things and try to make since of them in my head. When they go out she always dresses very provocative. He loves it too. I don't think she cares one way or the other but does it more so to please him. When I say provocative I don't mean like a short skirt and low cut top. I mean like a short leather skirt with her garters attaching her thigh highs showing and a top that is sheer with no bra. Luckily when we go out we don't go to any place that there will be kids. I will pick and say okay for a million dollars and he picks back and says but the going rate around here is 200. I get the feeling that he likes to make women feel or look cheap. Maybe it's a reflection of how he feels about himself. He is 50 some and his wife is 31. He got her from Russia 5 years ago. She has been a very good friend to me and really taught me a lot about making money. They have my husband and myself over for dinner and we all go out occasionally. Everytime he sees me he asks when I am going to pose for him. I have seen the beginnings of the art book at their house. It isn't porn by any means and it is art. I like his ideas and would like to be included in them but I want to protect myself at the same time.

$100 is great for sheer/topless but not nude -- but then again I have some experience and published work 'under my belt' now so I can easily explain the higher rate. When I was a true amateur (hardly any experience) I would've done nude for $100/hr.

It all depends on your EXPERIENCE level and if you are PUBLISHED (and which magazines). If you aren't published and have only a little experience modelling then $100/hour for nude work is the going rate.

Hmm.... knowing that he seems a little off to you, and that he's tried to talk you into things you had already said no to, I would say don't do it. Odds are good he'll do something you don't want with your pics, just because he can.

Lena and I are in agreement. I'd stay away. Now that you've explained more, there's too many variables and too much weirdness going on. He seems like a bit of a user and a groomer, based on your further explanations. I wouldn't buy into it. If you did this for a living, you might have a different attitude, and you'd charge for it all.

I'm not a lawyer, but just on a friendly basis, I would say that if you do work for him, make sure all your concerns are addressed in the MRF (model release form). You would want approval authority over any photo manipulation, as well as whatever photos actually are released. Something tells me that he wouldn't be keen to that. If he says, "I won't produce anything objectionable," but he's not willing to put that in writing, why go through the emotional damage of having this stuff out there?

Just keep in mind that pictures stay forever and they are his property, not yours. He can sell these pictures to whoever h wants, then your image can be used to sell...........

And I also don't think $100 is enough.

Holy crap! $100 and hour is pretty nice! I pay $50 an hour for semi/nude/sheer shoots. I also give the models a disk with every single pic we took on it, so they can do with them as they please.
