    Default Moldy closet

Well I was moving stuff around my house and *bam* found about a sqr. ft. of mold in my closet. Nothing too scary just tiny spots. I just dont want to get sick or have something happen to me like Tragic Beauty's story (which I couldnt find on here). Its just moist living near the ocean.

I checked the CDC website and another website; one says use bleach the other says dont use bleach. confused.

Has anyone lived in a moist area before and this happen to you????? Its cold as hell and cant leave the windows open for long.

Use Simple Green instead- bleach can get noxious in closed areas. Spray the area down to "wet" the particles of mold. Wear a mask. This is very common.
Get a space heater & oscillating fan to dry the closet out, then dump a box of baking soda in there to suck up moisture.

Everyone here had that black mold after the storm. I used bleach and just made sure the area was well vented. Like don't be a dork and close yourself up in the closet after you've sprayed it.

A half and half solution,. Half water and half bleach. Kills it dead. Blammo!

My last house I lived in had a leak when I was out of town for a week and I had mold all in my floor of my closet and on some of my shoes and clothing. I never could get it completely dried out by the time I moved though I did clean my shoes and clothing. I never had an illness or anything from it. The apartment I was in before had a leak that they were lazy about fixing and I had mold all over. Never got sick either. I seem to have bad luck with moving into moldy places. I never tried bleach because the smell of bleach makes me gag and wheeze.

I live in Guam for six years and the mold battle never end! Try sand paper first to get the hard part then you use bleach. please be careful because it takes a lot of bleach to get the mold out! Guam was so bad you will get mold on the side walk. You only use sand paper if the mold is real bad. Have you ever heard about mold living inside the walls of your house and it cause you to get sick and have these headaches. If you live in a real hot enviroment it is good to keep the house at 71 degrees to 80 degrees. I hope you get reid of the mold I'm allergic to it!

^Oh yes, damp hot Guam. I'll never forget that climate.

Buy one of those air purifiers from Sharper Image.....and install a ceiling fan.

I wouldn't really suggest sanding the moldy areas...you'll release a lot of micro mold spores.

Just wash over the area with the 1/2 bleach and 1/2 water solution.

This way works (vg's way), I worked in a hotel and we had a few rooms with this problem (600) in the drywall some of the wall we had to replace but other portions we could just clean - and as said below dont disrupt the area without getting it wet with the solution first . What your describing is a very minor build-up but still use caution .

It isn't just mildew? I just use the mildrew remover spray you get anywhere when I get any black areas in or around the shower....crack a window and get the hell out of the room while it works though or it will make you loopy in a very bad way!
