Default Doing curls with ceramic irons

Why am I so retarded at making curls with my ceramic iron? I did one perfect one ONCE - and ever since I just can't do it!!

I've watched my hairdresser do it time and time again - but I just can't get it right.

    Does anyone know the secret??

    Help.

I compare it to how you curl a ribbon with the edge of scissors...

I don't know what kind of curl you're going for exactly but my hairdresser used this wave iron thing to make waves in my hair and I thought it came out really cool and it seemed quite easy. It was like a curling iron with 3 irons together and you just press your hair between it.

You have to kinda roll your hair in it normally, then loosten it while pulling the iron down and out of the curl. It has to be loose and then go down to get the right curl.

Try that and see if it works.

I can't do that artsy craft stuff either..Please please share!! I just got a layered cut exactly like THIS

and am having lots of trouble getting it to work out and not take an hour!!

My hair dresser suggested putting clips into the curls as soon as they are rolled to hold the curl but I'm struggling....

Edit: I have a 1" curling iron and some girl at a new years party told me I need a larger barrel....what about THIS

or perhaps in 1 1/2" like THIS?

I also have the triple barrell curling iron, its fun looking but takes FOREVER to do! http://www.folica.com/Triple_Bar_180_1.html

It depends on what type of curl youre trying to acheive. Im not much of a curler.. I tend to straighten my hair for the time being...

just to clarify for ya Nautilus - you mean curling your hair with a straight/flat iron right? Not a reg. curling iron.

    It's like the GHD: http://www.ghdhair.com/

i think the vertical thing is the go. although i have A LOT of hair and it's soooo frustrating.

mousse, 35-40 seconds, vertical. right. let's see what happens.

If you cant do it with the ceramic I say to invest into a CURLING iron since you want CURLS

Best way to get sexy tousled curls is to do what Nikki said. Dont use the clamp on your curling iron... just wrap the hair around the iron in 1" sections. Start at the root holding the iron vertical and wrap the hair around... Then spray with a LIGHT hairspray... if you really want it to stay.... replace the iron with your finger and stick your finger THROUGH the ringlet... making a 'O' ring and using a SMALL clip clip it to your head... DONT use really tight clips as this may leave a dent in your curl but dont use the ones you pictured (too big).

After all your hair is on little 'O' ringlets in your hair... spray light mist and then unravel the O's. Finger through your hair seperating the curls (do not comb or brush) and TADA!

A LOT of work for a "just sexed" "I woke up this sexy" look....

i just see these girls doing amazing curls with the GHD, and i just hate not being able to do something.

i'm going to get ceramic rollers, i've decided.

the irony (no pun intended) is that my hair is curly anyway - i just like organised curls instead of my interesting array of curls and waves.

I had one of those! They were a set of like 3 or 4 other irons for like $40. I was too impatient, so I never really used them, but I'm sure they wouldn't have worked anyways.

I'm thinking about getting a ceramic curling iron though...
