    Default Tip Jar Problem

What would be an attractive idea to use for a tip jar. It's an older mature crowd in an upscale type place. I'm thinking I want to make it obvious but not obnoxios. I'm DJing at this time.

I'm confused...you are dj-ing and you want to put out a jar in which to receive tips from customers or dancers?

I'm trying to come up with an idea for a tip jar to put out for customers to tip me. But it has to be for an upscale older clientel.

I think the Tip Jar thing is getting way overused in our society. Keep in mind that for the most part, tipping is an American cultural thing that is not common elsewhere and it's reaching obnoxious levels. I once even complained to the manager of a fast-food restaraunt when I saw a tip jar by the register and he immediately took it down. My wife is the general manager of an Italian restaraunt here in Vegas and she once told me she almost fired someone who kept insisting on putting a tip-jar near the register which I thought was great. The worst I've ever seen though was a Mexican take-out restaraunt I used to go to all the time (they're closed now) who actually had a tip-jar hanging outside the drive-thru window on a string. I saw that and thought, 'You have got to be friggin' kidding me!". I thought I've seen it all, but a DJ wanting a tip-jar on the booth for the customers? I think the whole tip-jar thing is getting out of hand at a rapid rate. What next, tellers at the bank? Receptionists at doctors' offices? I mean, enough is enough already!

This thread should really be moved up to SG.

You're being a bit too vague, so perhaps you can explain this club a little better.

Is this a tip jar that someone (usually one of the dancers) carries around the club about once an hour to customers asking for a dollar for the DJ? (or in small clubs where there is no DJ, the jukebox).

It really doesn't matter what you use for a jar. The whole idea by its very nature is going to be considered tacky by the customers.

why don't you just ask for a tip when a customer requests a song? it serves the same purpose without looking like a Subway or Starbucks

Ive heard of guys tipping DJ's to take a dancer out of the rotation but never just for playing music. And frankly, I dislike 90% of the music I hear anyways.
