    One-Night Stands Along I-40

I'm planning a three-week trip home to Memphis in a few weeks to see my family! While I'm looking forward to the visit, the idea of three weeks with no dancing is very distressing. It's like crack! I have to do it. Plus it would be nice to let the trip out pay for itself along the way. Where's a good place to stop between L.A. and Memphis? I can arrange it so I hit the best night of the week, if necessary.

I take the 10 out of L.A. and then get on 40 near Amarillo, and then cruise 40 the whole way home. I'm interested in Paper Moon in Little Rock, but that's only three hours from Memphis so I wonder if it's really worth it to stop there. Is there a place in Oklahoma, the Texas panhandle, or even NM or Arizona that would be worth stopping over for one night?

And hey, any Amateur Nights in Memphis that I should know about?

Gotta make a stop in Sauget, Illinois. It's just a few miles from where I-40 hits I-55 and I-44.

PT's Sports Cabaret is a clean place and you don't need to know anything about sports, as the name might suggest. Penthouse Club (formerly Diamond Cabaret) is right next door.

They are both owned by the PT's chain. Both are good bets for a safe, profitable evening. Dances go for $40 each.

P.S. Ooops! It's called highway 40, but I guess it's really I-64. Just trying to help.

I'm confused. By going "home" are we talking going to Memphis, or from Memphis back to L.A.? In either case, I'm not sure what means you would be taking I-10 to get to Amarillo (except U.S. 70 through southeastern NM, which has got to be one lonely highway in spots). I'd hate to see you have a flat tire or run out of gas around there. The quickest route would be getting on I-40 near Barstow and taking it the rest of the way. You miss Phoenix this way, but hit Alberquerque.

It would seem to me the only towns with clubs would be Alberquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, and Little Rock. It all depends on where you're going to stop. I can only speak for OKC and state that its a very low mileage place. $20 air dances, (and no they don't sell very many), dancers change stages every song, and more than likely, low earnings potential as people here do not make west coast wages. I'm not sure about amateur nights or if there are any licensing issues. Night Trips is considered the top club there by many although its small, smoky and not well ventilated. It is right along I-40 on the west side of town and there are several motels nearby to stay at. Another club called the Playhouse, which is a bit grungier looking is in the same area.

Uhh, Sauget, IL is across the river from St. Louis. I-40 runs nowhere near there.

I've never danced in the US but my husband and i stopped at this little club in Lawton, Oklahoma which was awesome and seemed very busy for a weeknight. It was in an old aeroplane hangar and was packed with military guys. I don't remember the name but i checked the reviews section and i think it was Dragons West.

I would dance in Amarillo just to say I had. I bet it would at least be worth a few laughs. You could stop in Phoenix, right? Tons and tons of clubs (and SW members) there.

There are several clubs in Memphis with bikini/amateur contests; I think Wednesday/Saturday nights at Platinum Plus; I'm not sure what else.

the title of your post made me fondly remember a couple of fellas in Memphis . . . Don't forget to look up Rhi and to eat some Cozy Corner for me! Oh, how I miss pulled pork.

Hey, thanks! I wonder why Mapquest didn't send me that way? I've only done this trip by car once, when I moved out here. Sorry for the confusion - I live in L.A., but I consider Memphis "home" since I grew up there and that's where my family is.

I don't know anything about Amarillo except it's pretty boring to drive through. Is there something silly or funny about it? I have a pretty bizarre sense of humor too, and if there's something goofy about Amarillo I want to know about it.

Albuquerque is decent. Go to either TD's location around 6-7 PM and try to get hired. In my opinion though, and I travel the distance you are going a lot, we just drive straight through and deal with work upon arrival home. I'm from Memphis and if you are not uncomfortable dancing there you probably would do just as well as stopping off along the way and prolonging your long drive.

Plus many clubs won't hire on the spot or want you to "start tomorrow". By "tomorrow" you could be home. LOL.

I would recommend Albuquerque first. Also, it would be quicker to go I-15 from LA to I-40 at Barstow and take I-40 from there. If you take 10, you veer several hundred miles south which is out of the way.

Thanks, Tina. I'll definitely take that route.

I really DON'T want to dance in Memphis, unless I go do an Amateur Night or something. I've been to the clubs there, and they are way too skanky for me. Plus I grew up there and I know way too many people and have way too much family in the area!

I was thinking about Phoenix, but I don't want to get a permit and all that just for one night. Albuquerque sounds like a possibility. What do you know about Little Rock? So far I'm going back and forth between the two. Maybe I could do both...

Hey! Hit up the Paper Moon in Little Rock. I won the amatuer contest a few weeks ago there and got $500! Very easy work. I am from Tulsa so I took 1-40 straight in. It's definately worth going on a wednesday night for sure! If you are going to be in Tulsa, stop by Cloud Nine. That is a great place to make fast cash for the evening, almost any evening. Cheyenne club (Roland, OK) and Regina's (Ft. Smith,AR) on 1-40 at the OK/AR line are supposed to be poppin also! I think they have better weekends then weeknights! That is according to all my horny male friends I've spoken with here at home. Hope that helps and have a safe trip!!

Thanks! Wednesdays are Amateur Night, you say? That works very well for me. Can you bring your own music? What do you wear there? Do I need pasties and a T-bar or what? After you won Am Nite, did you stay and sell dances or go home?

I stayed and sold dances. You can pick your own music, the DJ is awesome. He wasn't there the second night and they had a stand in that sucked big time! But that was just while I was there, the normal DJ is great. It is on wednesday nights and they have a radio station out there doing promo's. I had a great time. I had to drive in a really bad blizzard to get there and it took me 2 1/2 extra hours, I didn't get there until around 12 am and they still hired me! They are open until 4 am I believe. You wear pasties and it is low contact, I have a review on them in the section. If you have any other questions, pm me girl!
1st place is $500 and last place is $75. Either way you will make money. The girls don't ask guys for dances for some reason. I banked!

There is a Spearmint Rhino in Albuquerque. I think they do pretty well there. I have a friend who is a waitress there. She really likes it.

When i read these posts i think of that song "route 66"

sure hope you get some kicks!!!

    good luck and be SAFE.

TD's North in Albuquerque would be an easy place to stop in for a night. It's on I-25 just north of I-40. They have out of town dancers in and out all the time. It's a $10 "wanna dance" club. I haven't danced in a few months so I don't know how the money's been lately but it's always been decent in the past for me. Dancers there are pretty friendly and laid back. I looked into Spearmint Rhino when they first opened but you had to sign a contract that I couldn't agree to and from what I've been hearing there's still more money at TD's North.

    Have fun and good luck!

Thank you! Maybe I'll stretch the trip out and do Albuquerque and Little Rock both. What's the dress code at TD's? Is it nude, topless, pastie, what? When you say "decent," what range are we talking? What's the contact like?

    How's this for a plan...

Leave L.A. and go to Flagstaff. Dance that night at The Joint, then hit the road in the morning and head for Albuquerque. Dance that night at TD's North, then drive the next day. Take that night off and stop somewhere in Oklahoma, then drive to Little Rock. Dance that night at Paper Moon, and then head on into Memphis the next day.

Sounds like fun to me. Anyone got advice, warnings, or anything?

That sounds like a good plan to me. In my earlier dancing days I used to dance along trips all the time. TDs North would be a good place to stop - they're owned by the same people who own my club, and alot of girls at my club travel there to work in summer. They say winter is ABQ's slow season but that money is still easy to make there. I visited the club as a custy once in October and it was hopping, girls were making money. The $10 wannadance thing sure is an easy hustle

I dunno about Flagstaff - it's sort of a hippie / college town. In my experience there isn't a whole lot of money for strippers in those towns but I'm sure you could make enough bucks to make it worth a stop.

Not dancing is OK is a good idea. I've danced in both Tulsa and OKC and - well, really not worth the bother. Better to rest that night and move along.

Little Rock. I haven't danced there but I have danced in Fayetteville. That is where I experienced . It was fun but not sure how well you'll be able to adjust to the folks in AR to actually make money there. LOL I'd say go for it anyway, in part to see what the illustrious BigGreenMnM was going on about the place, and in part for a giggle

Thanks, Bridgette! I was born and raised in Memphis, so I'm quite familiar with rednecks and how to handle them. As long as I smile and drawl, they love me, LOL! I'll break out all my best Skynyrd sets and have a great time. Little Rock is the one I'm looking forward to the most.

Thanks for the tips on Albuquerque and Flagstaff. Would it really be worth stopping in Flagstaff, do you think? Or should I just plow on through? Do you have any safety tips? I'm nervous about stripping while on the road by myself.

Damn that sounds like one of my road trips (well except for the dancing part).

Just make sure you're properly rested and scout the routes back to your motel. Rand McNally comes in handy when you're in unfamiliar surroundings, which can become even more unfamiliar after dark. Also try to find a good stopping place at each stop in case you should experience the unpleasantness of being followed. God knows, I've been there.
