Default learned the pole on accident

the funniest thing happened. I just started dancing maybe 2 weeks ago. stayed away from the pole, was too scared to try....but one night during my set i meant to just wwalk around it and d the generic thing like most beginners, but i kinda slipped around it...lol...and it was nice. i did it again, on purpose, and it was even better. so i guess to the new girls...dont be intimidated by it,its easier than it looks.

The problem with putting on lotion before you get to work and not washing it off is that during your stage shows you perspire and it causes a film to develop on your skin which then rubs off onto the pole and mirrors. No matter what...you should always shower before work and keep the lotion off. We've had some really nasty accidents that were caused by lotion. I've got dry skin as well....but i always make sure that my skin is dry and clean before work. Maybe there is something you can use that will help moisturize your skin in the shower? A different shower gel or maybe a skin treatment?

My first successful pole experience was like that. I just grabbed the pole and it just sort of happened. I wasn't really planning on it but I managed to do a nice little twirl.

Its hard though to try new things with it when you don't have access to a pole when you're not at work. Knowing your first attempt to try something new will be in front of a bunch of people starring at you is pretty intimidating.

You could also see if it would be ok to stay a little after they closed or before they open to get a little practice while no customers are there.

What I usually do is wash myself with soap in the shower, then apply plain, unscented lotion while I'm in there and then rinse it off with hot water. I live in SoCal, so the dry desert air is murder on my skin. I find that is the best way for the lotion to absorb into your skin and give you some moisture, and it's never greasy at all. I would love to be able to wear scented lotion to work, as well as those spray-on body oils, but I think the other girls would lynch me. I just use an alcohol-based body spray from Victoria's Secret or Body Shop for a subtle scent.

I know some girls who slather it on in the morning when they wake up, and then take a shower later on before work.
Ideally, the best way would be to put lotion on right after leaving the shower, but I found that putting it on DURING my shower is effective too. It doesn't get anywhere near the pole, as most of it is absorbed into my skin, the excess is washed away and the remaining comes off on the clothes I wear to work.

One thing that girls don't consider is their HAIR products. I try to use hairspray instead of greasy pomades because my head comes in contact with the floor on occasion.

Im dumbfounded. Our poles have never been to greasy from lotion, but in the dressing room girls are all putting lotion on before they go out on the floor! Admittedly, we don't have many girls that USE the ple, but still!

I am one of the proud few even as a n00b that does SOMETHING with it though

Congrats! Take the time to learn it, it's so much fun to twirl on the pole! Always check the pole before you try to spin though because I've known of haters that would perposefully greese the pole, or leave little grease spots on stage. I think it's horrible. Part of the fun of dancing is the whole environment, why ruin another girls game?

I never quite got why girs put on lotion in the dressing room before going on the floor. I mean it really absorbs and helps dry skin only if you put it on right after the shower when skin is still damp and it seals in moisture. But yeah, you'll still sweat and there will be this gross feeling. I hate lotion anyway. What helps is taking fish/flax/vit E oil internally. Great for joints and dry skin. Plus, avoid too hot showers/baths and don't use soap! Only body washes free of sulfates, which are found in abundance in natural food shops. I use either grapeseed oil or alba botanica hawaiian oil after the shower. Unlike baby oil, which has mineral oil that just sits on skin, those 2 absorb like magic, and even when I dance and sweat there's nothing that makes me slippery.
