    Default shoe repair rant

So I broke one of the heels of my favorite boots two nights ago. It was a crappy night to begin with. I only made $130 and then the chunky heal to my 5 in. patent leather boots started to become unnailed at the end of the night. It was really sad . . . I didn't realize how attached I was to these shoes

So I took it to two different shoe repair places yesturday and they both told me they couldn't fix it. The first place told me they didn't have the right machine and the second place told me my boot wouldn't fit in their machine. They were also very curt with me and I got the feeling that they didn't approve of my shoe. So I took it home and tried to hammer it in myself but that didn't really work.

Is that weird, telling you they just can't repair it? Without really trying? Have any of you gals taken your stripper shoes to shoe repair places?

I've taken a pair of clear plastic 6" heels to a repair place, but only to have the soles re-done. I generally find that they look at my funny as well, I prefer to just throw them away and buy new ones. What a racket, huh?

I buy my shoes from the lady who makes them. I haven't had any of them putz out on me yet, but if I did, I'd just take them back to her. I've seen her fixing shoes a couple of times in that shop. Her shoes are really high-quality though; it would take a lot of effort to break them.

Yekhefah, does your lady take mail order?

I take my shoes to the repair shop all the time. The guy is about 25 years old, so he porbably thinks it is cool. He even ordered special leather for one pair, and had fixed some of my shoes multiple times.

You should ask the other girls you work with about recommendations. I went on a tip another girl gave me and found a great place with quick turnaround and experience with these sorts of shoes.

    She has a website:

She's even got stripper shoes up to a men's size 15, IIRC. They're in a section called "The Drag Strip." LOL! There's something for everyone.

I've had a problem with boots not fitting on the shoe repair guys machine before. I think it's to do with the height of the shoe. I guess you just need to keep shopping around and hope you find someone - good luck!

    *Bump*

I had the nicest experience today. I brought my 8-inch platform boots in to a shoe repair shop & the repair man was very cool about it. (I said on the phone, ".....They're women's shoes, um...specialty shoes...")

I was worried he'd be weird about it, but he was really nice.

I had the tip fall off of one of the heels of my favorite shoes. I figured it could be replaced so I took them in to my usual repair guy. When he gives them back he says, "Well, they're shorter than they were but they match." So essentially, I paid the bastard $9 to render my shoes completely useless. Obviously he has never danced in heels.

ohhh. i SO just had the worst experience with my shoe repair place. i've always taken them to the same guy and never had a problem but someone else was in there the other day. all i wanted was the elastic replaced on the strap coz it had stretched. and it needed resoling. simple.

i picked my shoes back up ($40 later) took them to work, put them on, 3 steps later, the new elastic snapped and my heel FELL OFF!! they must have dropped them of something. so i took them off, had a look at them, and where they had resoled the shoes, there were hideous grinding marks all up the shoe! they looked terrible. i took them back, the girl claimed it wasn't her that did them but she organised to fix them free of charge.

i get them back again, elastic seems fine, she's attempted to remove the deep grinding marks but they're definately still there, shes inserted a bolt thing in the heel to keep it there so all looks bearable and i take them back to work, put them on, 2 step later, heel doesn't hold. the retards didn't even glue it in!!!! you think a small bolt slid into plastic is going to hold a dancers heel in place????

i just don't know what to do. do i bother taking it back there yet again or do i just glue it myself and see how it goes. i have a feeling they're ruined anyway so io spent $40 for nothing coz now i have a pair of ruined shoes and i have to go buy another pair anyway

I had a boy from down the hall fix the strap on my shoe. He was like "um....what are these for?" Cute.

I would try to get my 40 bucks back from them for fixing it wrong in the first place. Then just buy new shoes. If you can, it could be worth a shot - you paid alot for a service that wasn't nearly worth it.

I have a pair of clear heels, the ankle strap broke. It came out from under the sole. Can that be fixed or should I just buy a new pair?

I have had ankle straps break on me before and had them successfully repaired. Ask girls at your work if they know good shoe repair shops -- ones that can fix such shoes does exist.

Um, at the very least, they need to give you back your forty bucks! I'd fight for the price of the shoe, too!

I've never had a bad experience with a shoe repair guy fixing my dancer shoes. I have had heel caps replaced, new soles put on and straps fixed.

But seeing that most dancer shoes are vinyl, certain damage is not repairable. You probably need to get a new pair of boots.
