    Default Whatta You Know?

A long time ago I started a thread about angry music, and there were some great songs on it, but this is by far the best...

Forget about the usual macho bullshit, pushing and shoving, frat-boy fighting mood--this is a song about murder.

Not something I could ever relate to, until about two months ago, when as good a friend as I have ever had was gunned down like a dog, and the friends of the guys who did it were in the fucking club, laughing about it, two nights later.

The night before (less than 24 hours after the shooting) a couple of them had come in and were laughing as well. This made what was already by far the hardest gig I have ever worked damned near intolerable. After work I went down to this little dive next door we sometimes go to after we close--only to see another of them, with a big cocky grin, standing there like an ugly, greasy version of Tony Montana, daring anyone to fuck with him--just after he had pushed one of our dancers with his index finger on her forehead, and she got thrown out for calling him a fucking scumbag. The other two were with him, but they didn't matter.

I had almost gotten into a fight with this asshole two weeks before the shooting, when he wouldn't get the fuck out of my way in the club because he was too busy molesting a drunk dancer who should have known better. He was one of the worst of this group of eight or so migrant labor punks who had unfortunately been regulars.

    This was it...

I literally started looking for heavy objects to brain this guy with. I had my cell phone in my hand, and would have sacrificed it gladly, but it wasn't heavy enough. Just in time I spied a nice, heavy, wooden barstool, and had it in my hands, relishing what was about to transpire...

But the thought of my mom dying in the hospital, and the knowledge that I would never see her again if I crushed his skull like a canteloupe, finally made me put it down.

So, back to the next night...

I had always liked this song, and after getting into a stare-down contest with three of these guys (winning all three times, but upping the ante to dangerous proportions), I had it out, ready to play, but forgot the correct pronunciation of "puto". I called my best friend from college, who is Cuban and would know, but fortunately for everyone, he wasn't there, because my dedication of this song would have started a riot, lol...

There's no shouting, screaming, or hard-edged pounding beat in this one--unlike the other angry songs I have described in the past. It's slow, deliberate, and lethal. Check it out if you like the Cypress Hill style.

Also, there are great versions of "Hits from the Bong" and "Latin Lingo" on this CD, which is well worth getting.
