    Default endometriosis and constipation pain

This is a little detailed and some might find it repulsive. Just warning ya up front. I have endometriosis severely. I do manage it somewhat by taking the pill. The last few days I haven't been able to have a normal bowel movement (just a little bit at a time if you know what I mean). My lower abdomen is cramping on and off pretty severely. I have to work this weekend and want the swelling to go down. Should I do a suppository or do you think this will do more damage than good?

I don't want to say the wrong thing, since i'm not a health professional. But, since I do have endometriosis...I think I can add my 2cents. I think you should call your OB/GYN's office right now. Most have a night time nurse who answers questions. If he/she isn't available then call your doc first thing in the morning.

I am a nurse but I have never dealt with many endo patients. I would usually only give a suppository or enema to a patient if they had no BM in a couple of days. However, I was just thinking if I had a really good BM perhaps it would take some fo the pressure off my uterus and ovaries.

Another problem is that I took a few weeks off after a situation happened at work, then Christmas came and now we are closed for renovations. It could be up to two weeks before we re-open. I don't really have any extra money to spare and I don't consider this an emergency. I am have had 7 endo operations and don't plan on having another unless I have a hysterectomy. I don't have a fever or any sign of infection nor do I have any sign of any obstruction. They couldn't do anything for me at the doc but a pelvic exam to feel for cysts or an enlarged uterus. They could do an ultrasound too to see if there was any bleeding around my pelvis. If there was the only thing they could do is prescribe pain medication or surgery. I am already on the pill and I refuse to take Lupron or other hormones. Hopefully, in the future they will progress in the study and treatment of this horrid disease.

Oh, that sounds so uncomfortable for you. Does endometriousis cause constipation or is it just making you feel worse because you haven't gone to the bathroom? Maybe you could try just eating a lot of high fiber foods or taking metamucil or something. I've never taken anything to make me poop because I figure eventually it has to happen. So I don't know how awful it might be to take a laxative or something but maybe that would be worth it.

I don't think the endometriosis causes the constipation. I thinks its more of a combination of my other medications. I did go a little more tonight so hopefully by tommorrow my stomach will be a bit flatter.

I usually end up with nasty lower GI issues for the first day or two of my period; I think it's the hormonal swings. In my case, it tends to go away within a couple of days, so I'm not sure what would be best. However, I'm tempted to recommend that you try eating lots and lots of fiber for a while and drink tons of water. Dehydration always makes constipation worse for me.

I know that Fiber One Honey Clusters is slightly more palateable than cardboard, and a few bowls of that in a day will tend to clean me right out (which is why it's a bad box of cereal to keep next to my computer for snacking!)

Want to get some bowel movements going? Eat 2 apples...and then drink a glass of prune juice. Usually within about 1-2 hours, you'll be clearing anything out.

I would really stay away from suppositories or enemas unless it's REALLY bad...but, if it's not, then do the above. You may want to consider drinking prune juice or eating several apples a day if your medication is causing you to become constipated.
