    Default time of the month

    Hello ladies,

So I have decided to start dancing and was wondering what do you all do when it is that time of the month. I have those instead cups and was wondering if that would do. Any advice or do you ask for the time off. I would feel weird asking the manager for a couple of days off if I just started. Thanks!!

A tampon with the string cut off or tucked in is the only way to go. I've heard to many horror stories about the instead cup falling out (someone mentioned this happening ON STAGE!) Instead also has the risk of leaking, and when it rains from this thing it pours. Taking an instead out is harder then taking a tampon with no string out. Hope that helps.

Yeah I do the same thing...I just use a tampon and cut the string. Never tried one of the instead cups cuz I've been scared to lol. Just doesn't sound like something comfortable.

Instead cups are actually quite comfortable, but since they sit so far up, they can be . . . interesting to get out, especially if you're tired and have nails. If they're seated properly, they won't fall out, but it took me quite a few tries to get it right (like a dozen.)

The DivaCup and the MoonCup are better choices, IMO. I've got a DivaCup, and while it's about $35, it's reuseable and I've never had it fall out or leak after the first 3 times I tried to insert it (it's much easier to situate than the Instead Cups).

Most people only have to empty it every 8-12 hours, but on really heavy flow days I've had to empty it as frequently as every 2, though I bleed like a stuck pig. The best part is, when it starts to get full, I can feel it; even when it does overflow, it only overflows a little tiny bit at first, so if I'm wearing a black thong, I'm safe.

When working on my period, I just use a tampon. Placed higher up than I usually would and I much prefer tucking the string rather than cutting it.

To those who prefer cutting the string instead of tucking, how do you retrieve the tampon afterwards? After reading many of you recommend this approach, I tried it on my first workshift while I was on the rag. So I cut the extra length off the string and left a good inch before inserting. No problems with the string popping out during work but I was sure cursing you gals when it came time to fish it out!!!

It took me about half an hour to finally get my tampon out, and it certainly wasn't a pleasant experience at all. Trying to reach the tampon little string bit was hard enough with my short fingers (even in a squatting position) but getting a hold of it was near impossible. Needless to say, it was also messy and quite icky to put it mildly!

So are there any special tricks that I'm not aware of? lol!

I've since been using the string tuck method and it works great for me. I check often to make sure it's still out of sight and I have yet to find it displaced. It's still a little tricky for removal but now I can manage it in less than 5 minutes, much better!

I wear a tampon and tuck the string in, and make sure I check throughout the night to make sure the string stays up there (it always does- I'm just paranoid.)

I use a tampon and tuck the string. I keep having horror visions of the tampon going to high and I cant get it out. Tucking the string and checking it every so often is a lot easier IMO when time to take it out.

Do lots of keigels in your free time. It helps to push the damn thing out.

bear down with your pelvic muscles, littlepixie, like you're giving birth. it'll push it down far enough that you can reach it, at least.

and chloe, would you like the rest of my insteads? lol. i have almost an entire box that i haven't used. i hate the damned things. maybe i'm just not shaped right, but i can never get them in correctly so they don't leak. the closest i can get is if i insert them while lying on my back, but it's not worth the trouble of writhing on the nasty floor! and then when i pull it out, not only does the blood get everywhere, it pops against my cervix, which is really painful. it feels like it bruises me! i've given up on them. i got a divacup and i love it to death. the only thing i'd worry about for dancing in it, though, is that you'd have to insert it a little farther than usual so the little stem doesn't poke out. but that's no big deal- it's still insanely comfortable, and holds an amazing amount. and i've never had leakage. ever. i'm in love!

    Venus:
No, I've still got most of a box of insteads of my own, and I'm probably never going to finish them off. I have the same problem where I can't get the damn things in and have them not pop out without writhing around on my back on my bed with one foot on the nightstand and one foot on the headboard. Not my idea of easy or fun.

Actually, it is possible that you're just not shaped right for the Instead, as you're guessing... I have a friend who really wanted to use the Instead cups and had a lot of trouble; she was told by a gynecologist that her vagina really was too small to properly accomodate the cup.
