Seems like it could be I-10,202, or the other major freeway around Phoenix...but shit I can't remember it!

Lordy, when I first came back to Toronto in 2000 they used those photo-radar in white vans near the freeway.
Everytime a white van broke down anywhere by the side of the road, CHAOS.
People slammin on brakes right in the middle of rush-hour freeway, it was rediculous.
People complained so much about this that some politician had the whole program ended.

I've had 2 radar tickets since I've lived in Phoenix in the past 3 years. Um, let's see, the latest one I was rushing to my OB/GYN because I thought I was going into early labor. And the first one I didn't notice the change of speed limit in a residentrial zone and I got zapped.
First let me answer this question for you. The camera takes VERY good pictures and has multiple lenses. The get both front and back view of your car and an upclose shot of your face driving. Ha, the first one I got busted putting on lipstick while driving.![]()
Now, here is an inside tip (if this pertains to you). If you ever get a ticket in the mail, TEAR IT UP and forget you ever saw it. Legally, the court has to serve you with papers in person for you to be liable for it. They can't suspend your license or issue a warrant for something you never knew about. Um, let's just say I know someone that knows stuff about this matter.
Given that, keep in mind that you are allowed 11 miles OVER the posted limit before you get zapped. Personally, I agree that if you are driving faster than this then you deserve a ticket, but I hate robots and I think there are extenuating circumstances for speeding sometimes (emergency, no traffic, etc.). And most cops agree with this, again, I know someone.
Scottsdale is the 2nd city in the country to now have installed photo radar on a major highway. I live in the area and I do think that that they cameras are controlling speeders in this section of the freeway. I don't think there is TOO much of a threat that this will further endanger drivers (from slamming on breaks when they see a radar) because they give ample warning that they are installed.
So anyway, my 2 cents on it.

^^ Heh, I remember fucking with people on a street corner in hollywood with my camera at night.![]()
People are not ruled by their memories.
The best part of these photo radar things is watching the nightly news and seein people flippin birds, throwing moons etc.
Sounds like a group of people should block the road in protest of the photo-radar. That would be a lot of fun on a highway.
The photo radar is on the 101 in Scottsdale. There may be others as well, but that was the first one used on the freeway.
Those of you who are ok with photo radar...would you be ok with a camera that was mounted near your house and checked to see if you put your seat belt on every time you drove your car? How about a chip in your car that satellites could use to see if you were driving safely? Or dogs trained to run around neighborhoods and sniff areas around people's houses for drugs?
The thing is, it's easy to say "Photo radar is good! It helps keep us safe." Great. But you let the govt have this power, and it's one more step down the slippery slope to things you won't like.
I don't want the govt spying on me, even in public.
Hmm.. now what does high way patrol do now?? Sleep in their cars while the radar cam catches speeding cars for them?? Sometimes getting pulled over by a cop can turn into a drug bust or catching someone with no lic. drunk, criminal on the run, or warrants etc. It kills 2 birds with one stone and takes them off the road. How would a photo radar do that? I think the good old fashion way is better. What are we paying the police for with our tax money, to do nothing now because computers are doing thier work for them.

I have received too many of these in the Washington DC area... They do it several ways...
1. Police sit on side of the road and just snap pictures of the cars who are speeding... or,
2. They have permanently mounted cameras which snap a picture as you drive past.
Either way it sucks, there is nothing you can do but pay the fine. It's true that you can rip up the ticket and there is not much they can do to make you pay the fine, but Motor Vehicles will put a hold on the registration for your car until you pay the fine plus the penalties. As far as proving who was driving. The ticket is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. If that person was not driving at the time they have to fill out a form on the reverse giving the drivers full name, address, and drivers license number and the letter must be notorized.
DC sucks... I over payed some tickets a few months ago... They sent me all this paperwork that I had to fill out to request a refund... Bureaucracy!!!!
I hate those _____ cameras but what can you do????
It makes me think about how now I hardly see parking meters anymore... You have to use the pay stations and put the ticket in the windshield of your car... That helps eliminate the nice citizens who eat into the city's $$ by putting coins into expired meters for people they don't even know... Which by the way is against the law in many areas...

I've said it many times in Dollar Den. The government is broke. They will continue to try and find more fee enhancing crimes where ever they can. Especially if you are wealthy - like a car owner. (Hey, not like you can collect on vagrancy.)
There're quite a few in the San Diego area. The fine's 300 bucks, though. I got caught on one of them... Hired a lawyer though... Beat it!Still, I fantasize about hiring somone to just cause some vandalism one quiet night. ::sighs
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
Thinking twice about this...there is no way this practice can hold up in court. All it would take would be one guy with some money and a good lawyer to pursue this. All the lawyer would have to do is claim that the client was not driving the car at the time, and then not tell who was driving the car. You can't force someone to testify, and even if you could, all you'd have to say is "It could have been any of a number of people, including A, B, C, etc etc)."

Speed Camerss are an often evil profit generation tool. They do actually make some people slow down, but only in areas where they are known to be. Trust me a few of you have heard my SO driving stories.
The cameras are underfire here, for not being callibrated correctly, and issuing fines unnecssairly. We have had them for at least the past 10 years.
