To dance or not to dance..

Lastnight some friends and I went out to a club for my friends b-day, it was great! Girls were super friendly and sweet. I talked to a few and apparently their amateur night is tomorrow and they think I should try out. One girl even said she'd come in just to see me (tomorrow being her night off), I've been really interested in dancing but I feel like I should learn some moves first and tone up more before getting on a stage. I'm really tempted to go tomorrow but I don't know if I could actually go through with it. I'm excited and nervous, I don't know if I should just go for it or wait til next months night. Plus I'm not sure about dancing in heels, I'm so clumsy haha.
Should I suck it up and go for it or wait another month til I have a bit more confidence?

maybe you could go and just watch and see how it goes and then try it next month if you get too nervous to do it this time around.

Ah screw it - just go... amateur nights are so much fun... look around - strippers dont all look like Barbies! And you just may win a prize! Cash money... woohoo! The only way to learn moves is to dance and a great way to tone up is to dance so I say go for it!

Seeing that you're tempted, I'd say go for it. What do you have to lose? At worst, you'll be a bit awkward on stage and know to prepare a bit more for the next time, not dissastrous at all and a good learning experience. You may be surprised and find out you're one of the "natural" ones that just jump in and do great from the get-go. There's only one way to find out

If you're not very comfortable in heels, try and squeeze a bit of practice in some 3" before auditioning even if just a few minutes here and there. Practice a sexy slow walk and just keeping good balance in them while doing simple moves. Before getting my pole, I used the side of a door frame to practice leaning back on to slide down and up slowly, do some slow hip rolls while having something to hold on to, etc..

The rest is all confidence, connecting with the crowd (eye contact, smiling) and enjoying yourself on stage. Be the sensual woman that you are and show them what you got

Good luck wether you try it tomorrow or the next time!

If I was in that situation I would do what Bunny said. I would go and see how it worked and what it was all about and maybe even get a few ideas from some of the other girls there and wait till next month. You can also get more practice in heels by then too. That's just me though. I say whatever you feel most comfortable with, go with that decision. But good luck in whatever you decide to do!

I would go for it, but it's up to you. For an amateur night, people aren't expecting a pro. They're expecting amateurs. Just go and have fun. Then you can always do it again next month with some experience so you can do even better.

If it's something you would genuinely LIKE to do, go for it.Or else you'll kick yourself.

    Thanks everyone!
I think I'll just go in and see how I feel. If I'm not comfortable enough/confident enough there's always next month and I can talk to the girls some more, get some pointers.
And thanks pixie for your suggestion, I would never have thought of using the door frame to practice on =)

I'll let you girls know if I chicken out or not

Well it looks like I won't be going after all, lol all this being nervous and debating with myself for nothing, couldn't get a babysitter on such short notice.
Oh well, there's always next month and at least now I'll have more time to practice moves.

If the dancers there were trying to get you to come in, you probably don't have much to be nervous about. But from the sounds of it it won't hurt you to practice for a month, for your confidence and comfort.

If you don't have a problem with alcohol (like knowing when to stop) it wouldn't hurt to have a drink first--but don't get drunk, whatever you do.

In my club we put amateurs onstage on a regular basis, on the spur of the moment--but only if the dancers have already been making money or don't care, and especially if a lot of them are tired. The guys love this, and it gets them to stay and spend a lot more money. I have seen it turn a bad night around into a great one more than once, for all of us.

So I know how much the guys love an attractive amateur, and it sounds like you will do quite well.

It will definitely help you if they will allow you to pick your song(s), and you have practiced to it--and like it. Hopefully the DJ will be cool. The dancers there may have some clout with him, as well.
