    Default Does the music matter?

OK, I've see a number of threads and posts about dancers picking the right music and fitting it to their clientele. Does the music matter to you?

For me, I would say not so much.
The music that is playing when the dancers are on stage doesn't encourage or dicourage me from tipping. I'm in my 40's and probably kind of an oddball in that I tend to like newer music in general and don't listen to older musical styles. I used to frequent a club in California where the occasional dancer would play some classic rock songs for her set. I always thought this was odd since the music was probably outdated by the time she was born. After reading some of the SW posts it seems she must have been trying to fit her music to the older, fatter, balding, white guys (Like myself ).

The club I frequent now has mostly rap, hip hop ( in Spanish & some English) and the occasional alternative or techno thing thrown in. It does seem to be a better performance when the dancer likes the song thats playing, the dancers seem to enjoy themselves more. I did notice on a recent visit right before the Holidays that the girls who used Holiday music and costumes got absolutly no response from the crowd, although the girls using their regular music were tipped much better.

It's not so much what they play it's how intrusive it can be sometimes. Most of the time it's the volume level of the music or idiotic DJ banter that pisses me off, not what they are playing. I'm 48 and I really don't care for a lot of what gets played in SC's but I'm not there to listen to music. It's up to the dancer to set my mood in the PD or VIP areas.

Your right Yoda, the volume can be a problem. It's hard to "communicate" with the ATF if we have to scream at each other to be heard. I went to a club once where the music was so loud it was distorted and making the speakers buzz, after ten minutes I felt a headache coming so I left and went to a different club.

I don't care what type of music it is, as long as it's duration is as long as possible.

Right on Yoda! I'm almost 49, when I'll be a "perfect square" (I HATE how true this really is.....) It was better being "magnum" when I was 44......... Anyway, back to topic, I like a wide variety of music, and have discovered lots of new music in SCs that I would not have found otherwise. Also, as an aging rocker, I have no problem with really loud music, but only when I have no interest in carrying on a conversation. Also, at least to me, there's big difference between listening to AC/DC at high volume versus suffering through much of the rapcrap that just seems to exist to push the bass to ridiculous levels.

As for music style in a club, it does affect my enjoyment of lapdances. If I have a really great club experience, and notice the music, I enjoy being able to later associate that particular song with the memory.

Odd, but the music in Asia is much the same as the States with a few more classic rock remixes thrown in and some Thai folk music with the dancers really like. Thai folk music is a combo of rock and some mountain stuff that is hard to describe. But when you want a good dance all you have to do is tell the DJ to put on some Jin Ta La and the dancers go crazy.

The volume problems are the same. There must be some kind of international DJ school that teaches them to play music at an ear splitting level.

The dancers don’t pick the tunes because there are 30 girls on stage at the same time so the DJ is open to requests.

I really don’t think the tunes are as important as the volume. It’s nice to see the girls dance to something they like.

I have been in a couple of places where I really liked the music mix but what brings me back are the women.

It would be nice to have a club with moderate volume and great women. I don’t like a high hustle attitude I guess that is the most important thing to me when visiting a new club. If I get hustled in the parking lot by some guy with prison tattoos trying to park my car and the door girl wants a tip in addition to the cover and before my first drink arrives three women have asked me for dances I know it’s not the place for me.

In Brazil they play everything from Bon Jovi to Rap in the strip clubs (which are basically brothels). The US Music Industry marketing machine is strong world-wide.

It's an ego thing. DJ's are performers too and want to be noticed. Volume and inane banter are their weapons of choice.

I like loud music anyway. But when its not the type of music you like, it can seem to loud even if its not. To answer the topic, yes the music does matter. I'm way more likely to get a dance if the DJ is playing Zombie,MM,Deftones and the like. I like to dance along with the dancer. And when you find a dancer who is into the same kind of music and you "click" It's the best feeling.

AZDD may I use the "Magnum" hehe I like that and it fits.

"Arms Wide Open" and " Sexual Healing" back to back are what the DJ used to play every Saturday afternoon for the 4pm 2 for 1 dance. My ATF and I would get into an almost altered state for some reason when we heard these songs. It's been three years since she retired but when I hear either of those songs I can feel her breath on my neck and smell her perfume....

For the most part the music doesn't matter to me either as I like most types of music, although I agree the loud stuff is annoying and it had better not be cut short.

Its not so much what they play, but its some of the customers who come in when certain genres of music are played that annoy me. Too many folks coming in with that stupid ass frat-boy haircut, backwards baseball cap, and FUBU attire, and I'm heading for the door.

I also concur that the unneccesarily high decibel level and songs cut to less than three minutes suck.

not really. i tune out most of the music played in a sc. the volume or cutting songs annoys me more than the type of music. however, chatty DJs really chap my hide. i recall this one DJ who must have thought he was the next Shecky Greene or something. he spewed a constant stream of bad one-liners. fortunately, he didn't last very long.

Why would a young girl not enjoy or appreciate classic rock or oldies? Its not always something to dance to for the "old men". Suprise, the pinkies don't always know what they are talking about. Most of us also grew up in the 80's and early 90's, and that's the age of men in their 30's and 40's now. Those men have money too. If a girl is dancing to Bad Company and looks unhappy, its probably because the club is making her dance to shit music because they think that's what the spender customers care about. I've met plenty of older custies who love the metal and hip-hop. The noise factor makes sense across the board, even for us. It really damages our ears over time and earplugs aren't an option because we also need to converse.

People who work in a bar or club usually can't get private disability insurance either, and health insurance is through the roof for industry workers. We get (I got) screwed in so many ways!

God, yes, I wish they would just turn it the fuck down. I don't really care unless it's something really grating or with obviously bizarre lyrics that you can't tune out.

I have heard customers comment occasionally on the music, but it's usually in general, like "Why do they play so much classic rock/hip-hop/metal here?" or "Can I get a dance when they play 'Stairway to Heaven?'"

Variety is the key; mix up the girls who like to dance to hip-hop with the ones who like to rock out with the ones who like techno. And turn it the fuck down so a guy doesn't have to say "What?" five times when we say "Hi."

I'd love to blame all of the volume issues on DJ's or club managers but the worst offender in the clubs I go to is a place just outside of Boston where the dancers play their own music and control the volume. There was a mafia hit in the club about 25 years ago so the inside joke is they crank the music to drown out the gunfire. The girls say they crank it so they don't hear the obnoxius stuff that the customers shout from the tip rail. Management is always yelling at them to turn it down. You don't know what a headache is until you've heard "Gasolina" at 110 decibels three or four times in a few hours....

I mixed live bands in clubs for years and I swear at least two or three strip clubs I go to play the music louder than most of the live shows I work. I care much less about what they play than the volume they play it at. Sometimes it's so loud I can't understand a word the DJ is saying. I've spent many nights sitting with dancers asking me on every shift change "did he call my name???". It just doesn't ake any sense.

Color me wierd but the music is key for me. Part of the reason I go to clubs is the music (not a HUGE part, but still part). I like most all kinds, except Country, and I like hearing it at loud volumes. My favorite clubs all allow the dancers to choose their own songs. In that case, there is really no excuse for a lackluster stage performance.

I agree that it should not be intrusive to the point of being unable to carry on a conversation. I also agree that the DJs should speak English and a minimal amount of it. DJ-speak and incessant prattle are both undesirable.

If you find yourself thinking that the music truly makes no difference, stop in Delilah's Den in South Amboy, NJ. The DJs there do their level best to appear for all intents and purposes to be 100 disc CD changers with no thought or consideration to what is being played. Have you ever heard "the lap dance is always better when the stripper is crying" by the bloodhound gang in a club?Yes, they seriously played it.

So, IMHO, the DJ is definitely a part of the SC experience. A good one can soften a bad night just as a bad one can annoy an otherwise good night.

No, my stripclub experience has been about acceptance, and affirmation, and desirability...There have been some women who have a personality that just clicks with mine, and in the faux-sex atmosphere of the club, it's a mix that is completely seductive." - Jay Zeno

I view the entire strip club experience as entertainment. Because of this, I do find the music/dj a key. I think I spend less freely when I'm not feeling the club atmosphere. Of course this doesn't apply when it's just a set or two, only when it's non-stop. As long as there's variety, it's all good with me. I agree though, the volume of music is of far greater importance.
