Default How long do most relationships last?

For me, the first 3 months are the best. After 1 year they start to sour and it goes down hill after. I would say my average lifespan of relationships is 2 years. I'm curious as for the rest of you. The men in my life have disappointed me one after another. Relationships always end up so damn depressing. I really want to become one of those man eater types but i don't know if i have the personality for it. I've never used them, never cheated, compromised, given them sex whenever they wanted etc. I think relationships in this industry is challenging but I've never been one to be embarassed. Guys always end up asserting that I'll end up with psychological scars but I don't think that to be the case. I don't think I'm being naive either. Forgive my rant. I'm so fustrated and exhausted. For the people here, I was just curious what's the longest relationship you've had (where nobody cheats.)

My longest as of yet lasted 8 years (7 of them married). Working on the second-longest now, so far 5½ together, 3½ married. There's never a dull moment around here though, so we could never get bored with eachother. He's too crazy for that. Heh

Well, I don't think you should really count me, but I'll answer anyway. I haven't gone through a ton of relationships because I've been with the same person since the 8th grade. Almost 7 years later- we're still together and still happy. We've been married since September 05, too.

Most people would always tell me, "Why not go out on your own and date somone else?" Well that's an easy one- I don't want to. Why leave not only my husband, but my best friend? We have too much fun together, and we're so much alike.

I've been with Scorpio going on 5 years. Before him (long before him) my longest relationship was 4 years.

The first 3 months of any relationship are good...it's before you know much about their idiosyncrasies. After that, it's how willing you are to work with them on the relationship after you get to know the idiosyncrasies.

    That's good, lol...

It does seem to be true that most relationships have trouble after about 3 months. The hormones have a tendency to settle down, personal habits may start to become irritating, etc.

There are ways to keep the magic alive, and I have been very good at this for the most part, but it has to be a two-way street. The longest I made it was a little over 6 years, then 5 years, then another for 2. All three of these involved us living together for the majority of the time.

There is no avoiding the fact that this business is about as difficult as you can get as far as maintaining the magic that keeps relationships healthy. It is far, far better if you are both active in the business at the same time--or at least that the active partner has some compassion for the strain it can impose on the one sitting home, while the other is getting his/her ass grabbed or grinding on crotches all night, lol...

The one sitting at home or working a 'normal' job also has to be compassionate and patient. We are all human, after all. The tendency to say "tough shit, if you don't like it you can fuck off" will spell doom, unless your partner is a submissive f*cking doggie type, lol.

    Different for us all.

My longest was 11 years together. About 5 years on off, (same guy) not too serious at that point.

    Latest...last was 6 years.

They say the "new" marriage relationships have a life of 5 years and it's over. Hmm.

hmm well before my current boyfriend my longest was a year and a half. I had reached that 2 times but with both of the guys i seemed to have commitment fears and would break up with them soon after the year and a half mark.

this boyfriend, oh man...i've lost track. it's been almost 3 years though.

I have what I call the "3 Month Moratorium On Great Relationships".

If it started out great, and he's hiding a core of asshole, it will all fall to shit after roughly three months. Either he can't keep pretending to be great for more than three months, or after three months he figures you're too hooked to walk away.

Needless to say, most of mine end around three months.

For the ones that actually are substantial enough to go anywhere, three years seems to be my maximum so far.

The one i'm in now is the longest i've been in, & hopefully the last. Next month it'll be a year.
My past relationships didn't even last 6 months! My bf makes me extremely happy, we're two souls in one that share the same heart(sorry, I know..disgusting. lol) . I can't explain it. He is truely my soul-mate. We feel like we've known each other for years. I NEVER thought I would meet a guy like him, bc I was always attracted to meat head-shit heads. He's everything I wanted in a person inside & out(yum!).

Ok, sorry for being a smartass, but really, that was kind of a silly question--how long do most relationships last? I mean, you would have to initiate a very largescale survey to get an answer to that.

However, if it's personal experience you want, I have varied from 2 weeks to a year before getting together with Mr Wayward. We have been sleeping together for eight years, dating for seven, cohabitating for one, married for ten months. Can you guess what my advice is? Take it sloooow. Run far far away from the person who wants to say "I love you" after three dates.

(However I think it is perfectly acceptable to sleep together on the first date)

Ahh, I conceed it may have been a silly question if asked in general terms but I was wondering about the people who posted here. Speaking for myself, being in this industry have always caused problems for my long term realationships. I'm going through a tough patch with my bf right now- everytime I get angry about his relationship with his ex, he brings my damn job up. He says "what's the harm in that? I just talk to her once in awhile when you're out there being with bunches of guys everyday" Relationships are so exhausting. Sometimes I feel like just giving up on men. Reading some of the responses here has certainly given me hope!
