Default Back to the gym after holidays

Well I dragged my ass back to the gym today. First time since before christmas. Yikes 2 weeks! Today was the kids first day back at school. My daughter was at school and hubby at work so away I went. Urghh can't believe how fast you get out of shape! After doing my weights I hit the eliptical after almost passing out after 30 minutes I called it a day.
Anyone else find it hard to restart after even a small break??

Yes... I am struggling with this at the moment. In the room next to me is a whole workout station and treadmill and yet I can't seem to convince myself to get up and work out! It doesn't help that I find it so boring and I get tired so fast. I hope some of the ladies can offer us some inspiration! Good luck!

Well congrats to you for doing it.

The real trick is not stopping during any season. Its all about personal motivation.

It is normally only hard to restart after a break because for some reason, christmas, thanksgiving, whatever you decide to take a break, therefor you're associating working out with something you need to take a break from. Stop thinking like this, and coming back wont be so hard.

I notice that even a DAY of not working out, <I run daily> I feel it harder to PUSH myself that extra distance. But once I work through that I'm back up to my regular me.

i agree with mast....not stopping is the best way to stay the course. but wow...congrats to you mast for doing it every day. personally, i'm only there 5-6 days per week...lol. anyways...even if you don't want to go, just go and say, "ok....i only have to do 20 minutes, and then i can go if i want" so at least you have something. usually, you find you can do more. i also like to work out when i feel upset about something...it tames any aggressive thoughts, and sometimes i mull over the problem while working out. lately, it's been an instinctual thing to think of the gym when i get antsy.

i love the elliptical....it is my friend.....my electronic lover. also, the only time i allow myself to read magazines such as cosmo, glamour, and celebrity trash mags is when i work out...nice distraction etc.

again, a bit off topic . tigress, since you state in your post that you have kids, i admire that you fit in the time to work out...i don't have any, but can only imagine how hard it must be to find time to exercise while being a mother. rock on

on another note, my gym has a small parking lot, and ever since Jan.2, i've noticed it full....people are parking on the grass medians and hovering in their cars waiting for people to leave. like the mall parking lot on X-mas. seems everyone wants to get back into the swing of things....

Well its not intentional, its just like, If I have free time I go. But Thank you!

The truth is, the mirror is a great motivator not to mention the great people in my life pushing me to better myself. How can I go wrong?!

    Mast!

^^ Audrey....i don't think it's odd....working out is active, and when people are upset they want to move....on a machine is a safe and legal way to do it....i'm glad i'm not the only one that feels this way

I'm a fitness freak so motivation isn't really a problem for me.

I find it kind of funny though that many times I'm the only female in the free weights section. All that testosterone from wife-beater wearing 16 year-old mini-Eminems sometimes makes we want to leave.

Honestly, the feeling after running 2-3 miles is absolutely amazing. Pure endorphins....

i am contemplating going to the gym tonight for my first time in about 3 weeks. it really is hard to push yourself to get back into the groove of things but once you get there, you truly do find you can do it, as someone else already said. i not only fell off my workouts but i fell off my diet as well as my drinking water too so i feel like a complete sloth. but it's definitely time to let that all go because my income is suffering as a result.

yeah, it's hard to go back. once you get in that sluggish mode it's hard to break out. I was out of town for a week for Xmas and ate like a pig and sat around on the couch and when I first went back to the gym it kicked my ass.

liltonyar, I wish I was like you. I am so not motivated even though I know I'll feel better after I work out. I have to have a trainer or somebody to push me. I've just come to accept that I'm naturally lazy.
