    Default Itching to Death

So the last few days Ive been itchy... really itchy all over my body. I went back to tanning a couple weeks ago (and look damn good LOL) Im not sure if the itching is from that (never had it before)... Im also tanning at a dif place than before - maybe beds arent being cleaned well? Oh and I ALWAYS shower directly after tanning so its not because i have lotion/sweat on me.

Anyone know of any good anti-itch lotions because my regular lotion isnt helping

Just had a thought that maybe i have a small un seen burn that could be causing it? dunno? think ill pass on tanning today...

Aveeno is great anti itch and inflamitory lotion. Not just that but maybe its suuuuper cold and your skin feels tight even more so after tanning (even after a shower). I use Jergens Ultra healing lotion for winter months.

Is your itching in a localized spot or all over?

I found out the hard way last year that I'm allergic to Amoxicillin, and a normal dose of it gave me vicious outbreaks of itching/hives for months.

Try taking a Benadryl and see if it eases up. If that works, it's probably allergy-related. Then you get to go through the fun process of figuring out what you're allergic to.

I've been itchy after tanning in a tanning bed and getting a burn. I don't get it from regular sunburns though.

I found this on the web:
Why do some people itch after tanning? Itching and/or rashes may be linked to several unrelated causes, so it is important to obtain a tanning history on each customer. Some people are naturally photosensitive upon exposure to UV. Others are susceptible to heat rashes, a cause totally unrelated to UV light. Certain chemicals or ingredients found in cosmetics, lotions, shampoos, and even the acrylic cleaner may cause itching as well. Rashes caused by these products generally occur in localized areas on which the products were applied. Customers should be advised to tan with the skin as clean as possible. If discontinued use of a suspected product does not inhibit the rash, a person should discontinue any exposure to UV light until the condition subsides or see a physician.

I used to get rashes after tanning, and finally I figured out it was from the spray that they used to disinfect the beds. I kept getting rashes from the lay-down beds, so I tried a stand-up bed, and didn't get a rash after. So I asked the girl working at the tanning salon what it could be, and she said that some (very few) people are sensitive to the disinfectant spray they use, so now I only do standup beds and I'm fine.

isnt something with oatmeal supposed to be good for stopping itch? i think they have like oatmeal bath packets that you can get at like walmart to put in a bathtub with you... or you can use regular oats, like not the instant kind, but i honestly dont have a clue where you'd buy that, lol

    feel better sweetie!!

If your taking St. Johns wart it can make you itch after sun/uv exposure.
Niacin, and a few other vitamins will also make the skin itch.
Someone also might have slipped itching powder in your stuff, wash everything and buy new lotion for use at work.
Good luck finding the cause, and I hope you quit itching soon.

One possibility is that you may have dried your skin out a bit. I get itchy all over when my skin is dried out from tanning and especially this time of year when the moisture has been sucked out of the air from indoor heating.

I get itchy skin from running outdoors- cold air chafes skin. One of those things. Taking Benadryl can help, baking soda or bath oil in the bath, avoiding hot hot bathwater, and taking oil pills- all good to try.
PS My friend L was visiting from Tennessee recently & claimed the current climate in N. California is "arid" compared to TN. So.......maybe it's just seasonal climate issues.
