If people cannot treat animals with respect, I wonder how they can treat other humans with respect.

In NYS we have some decently strong laws about animal treatment, but remember traditionally animals legally were treated as chattel, that is as possessions.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

For some reason, (way before this) I never quite thougt Peta was on the level. I had heard this story before, it's absolutely deplorable.

PETA hasn't been on the level for decades. Their entire board of directors are packed with hypocrites left and right who don't care about what lives they step on to support their own psudo-terrorist activities in the name of saving animals. It's a total crock. Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA (who is even quoted in one of the articles posted) is known to support known and convicted arsonists who fire-bomb animal labs.

Their Vice President screams and yells about animal testing all the time (I can't remember her name off the top of my head). Coincidentally she's also a diabetic who has to take insulin daily. Insulin was created by doing laboratory tests on animals and is manufactured today from animal byproducts. When questions about this blatant hypocricy, she stated she wasn't a hypocrite because even though animals had to "suffer" to producer her insulin, it was for the greater good because it kept her alive and she is on this earth to protect animals. Her face is right in the dictionary next to the word "hypocrite".

The worst offenense that I've personally witnessed PETA commit was agains a local Vegas entertainer, Bobby Berosini. Berosini was one of the most famous acts on the Las Vegas Strip during the 70s and 80s. He had an orangutan act which was hugely successful and anyone that knew him would tell you he treated them like his children. PETA, absolutely convinced that Berosini was mistreating them, doctored footage from a backstage hidden camera supposedly showing Berosini beating the orangutans. The hotel quickly closed the show due to the PETA protests outside and Berosini spent nearly every dime he had defending himself in the courts against these accusations. The video looked so overwhelmingly real that the community in Vegas wanted this guy hung from the highest pole. Berosini was brought up on charges of animal cruelty and they took the orangutans away from his huge habitat for them which he owned. The entire time, Berosini proclaimed his innocence. Then one day, a surprise witness showed up. He was a worker for PETA who owned a video production studio who created the fake video. He couldn't live with himself knowing he was destroying Berosini's life. Long story short, representatives from PETA came forward and admitted to doctoring the video. All charges against Berosini were dropped and he later filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against PETA and won. Long story short, PETA destroyed this man's life and his career. He was never able to get a show together after that because his reputation was so trashed by PETA nobody wanted to book him, even though the evidence showed no wrongdoing on his part.

Bottom line, PETA is a radical psudo-terrorist organization who, once started with good intentions, has become a political monster run by fanatics. Ingrid Newkirk has publicly stated numerous times that PETA is against people owning pets, using animals for any type of animal for work related activities such as police dogs, seeing eye dogs, etc. Ingrid LITERALLY believes that you owning a cat or a goldfish or a ferret or a dog is the equivalent of someone in the 1700s owning a black slave.

Yeah. I'm sure my 7 pound Maltese would much rather fend for herself out on the street than be sitting in my lap right now, sleep in the bed with me, and cuddle on the sofa with me.

Yeah, I actually had a PETA member friend of mine attempt to read me the riot act for going horseback riding once. He also subscribed to the "no one should have pets" theory, and would start arguments if someone even said something like "MY cat/dog" etc, pointing out that "NO ONE OWNS AN ANIMAL", blah blah blah. I agree to a point, they're my companions, and are treated like my children...but come on, man. He also believed that violence wasn't an inherent human trait, which is a whole 'nother topic. Yeah, I don't talk to that guy much anymore.

In theory, PETA is a great idea. Poke a little bit below the surface and it's pretty disturbing. As with most things in life, I guess. Those statistics for the % of animals the euthanize vs the ones adopted are truly disgusting. Ethical, indeed.

Ingrid actually is on record as saying she stands for, and I quote, "complete animal liberation". I think it says it all right there. There are many great animal rights organizations out there. Hell, I even run the website for one of them for greyhound rescues! PETA isn't the one you want to support though. There's a reason why PETA's new nickname is now PETA: People for Extortion, Terrorism and Abuse.

I work for my local humane society doing the behavioural testing for the adoption process on our animals. I can't even see the name PETA without seeing red. You talk about some truly crazy people!!! If I never have to deal with another PETA person it will be too soon.

this is so horrible! what on earth are they thinking? i agree that abusing animals is bad. obviously. but owning pets? my cats are my gods. they eat steak every time i can afford it. i play with them for hours a day and they have their own purified water fountain because the tap water around here is nasty. they're healthy, happy, and getting fat. they honestly think they'd be happier on the streets, starving, being beaten by random people, and living only a third as long at best? my new kitten, calypso, was rescued from the streets of baltimore. the day was below freezing and she was mewing outside a friend's office building, begging to be let in. she was so drastically underweight that she was 1/3 the size she should have been. but what makes me really angry is that she was obviously raised and abandoned by humans. she is not at all feral, had no fleas or ticks when found (this indicates that she had recently been dosed with a preventative) and was completely litter trained and enamored of humans. feral cats 6 months of age have none of those characterisitics. gods, she was probably "rescued" by a PETA member and abandoned on the streets! *(~incensed~)* and as for "euthanasia"? "euthanasia" specifically refers to a mercy killing. if you are killing a healthy animal that does not want to die, it is not "euthanasia".

o, and as for "my cats"? well, i refer to myself as "their human". does that straighten things out?

Ingrid saw to it that they are and were punished to the full extent! There are MANY sites up...anti-peta. So consider what you read.

As for owning pets! NO...PETA is NOT against owning pets. The org. encourages adoption, and altering pets! What PETA does not like is animals that perform (circus) or are killed for fur and food......as the treatment is very inhumane.

I have defended a group i am proud to be a part of! I have many emails from staff saved! Encouraging me to KEEP my snakes that can't be turned out....not put them down!

Yes i will post it if anyone wants to see!

Also the VP. well now.... this person is controlling the disease with the help of a MD and dietitian!!!

Get the facts! Stop reading "hate" sites made by "joes."

I know what i am doing...and i own animals! I know where my money goes...i keep in touch.

There is much more involved than volunteers who FUCK the group up because they can! Remember many of these people who transfer etc. are volunteers....so there you have it, not every person can be screened 100%. Sad but true.

Yes PETA puts animals down.....why not? So does your local shelter. PETA ha sa Vet. on staff. OUR local shelter does not....she is a Tech. who puts them down.

We can attack every animal group out there, and find flaws.

Start looking in your own county first! You would be surprised.

I had someone read me the riot act regarding "my cats" once too. He snapped, "They're not YOURS! You don't OWN them!" I pointed out that yes, legally I DO own them. Furthermore, I also refer to "MY brother" and "MY mother," even though they are not my property. The word "my" does not always connote ownership; it simply describes a relationship.

Well, I'm so sorry for Bobby, that's terrible. Maybe Peta has done some good deeds, but they do seem to come across as extreme to me. Just my feeling.

it only takes a few messed up people in a group to make the whole group look bad.

i'm sorry pamela. i wasn't thinking. i' sure you're right, and there are many rational, well meaning ethical members of PETA. you clearly are one. i just get so angry when people hurt animals and kill them for no reason! i makes me want to scream.

If more people could speak eloquently like Pamela when they represent PETA it would help their case tremendously. Most people in PETA do it because they truly love animals, it just seems like there are some extremists who ruin the efforts of the legitimate ones. A lot of our goals are actually the same from the reading I have done. I would bring every animal home with me if I could. The decisions I have to make everyday on whether the animals I test are adoptable or not do weigh very heavily on my conscience but I just do the best I can. In our own way each of our groups are just trying to do the best for the voiceless that we can. Sorry I rambled but this is definitely a topic I am passionate about...
