Ummm I would be shooting the bartender if they slipped my kid some liquor..
Maybe I'm just too cynical, but my first thought on this was if anyone checked to see if someone with the kid ordered or snuck a long island iced tea in with them. I saw the mom and she was going on about the kid having nightmares... Let me clarify though, I'm a Mom so I would be in jail right now if someone gave my little girl a drink. Maybe I'm just jaded by living in a lawsuit happy country.
What's the big deal? Obviously it was wrong if they did it on purpose, but I don't think one sip of liquor is really giving the kid nightmares, nor is it worth freaking out if it was an accident. When I was a kid, I got ahold of a bottle of wine, drank a ton of it, barfed, and passed out. I'm fine. And when my brother was six, he accidentally got a beer and drank most of it. We didn't realize it was beer until we wondered why he was acting like such a giggly, staggering idiot. He's fine too. Hell, in most of the world they rub liquor on a baby's gums to relieve the pain of teething, and traditional Jews give a baby wine for his circumcision. A little alcohol is not going to hurt him.

Acting drunk after two sips? Erm, I don't think so. The other storys I heard about this(on the news) said he drank the whole cup.
I think it is quite a screw up. A friend had a similar insident at an applebees. Odd. So, word to parents, check your kids drinks when you go out to eat. Duh. I know parents who taste all the food, and the drink. Commen sence, I would think.
Any of the moms on here do that?(for the small ones, after 7 or so and they know when somethings not right)

Topical numbing gel, usually prescription-strength.

i don't think it's horrendous, but it definately falls smack dab in the middle of the not nice category. and it's always dangerous to give anyone alchohol wihout their knowing it, because it can interact badly with some medications. especially in someone who probably only weighs about 50 lbs. i'm just glad the kid's all right. but i don't buy the "mistake" excuse either. no one serves long islands in kiddy kups. that's nuts.

Having worked in a similar establishment....if accidental then what most likely happened is that either a bartender or a waitress had a drink stashed in the kiddy cup, which was summarily passed on to the server as the apple juice. Lots of bartenders will hide drinks in kiddy cups.
