Default Cat ran away =( A rant

It's been a few days, so now i know he is not hiding. My baby Dusty ran away. He was always a shy little cat, he was a few months under a year old. Sometimes he would be scared and run away from me in my kitchen, but other times he would be real affectionate and come lay with me while i slept. It took him some time but he was really improving with his shyness. He never went near the door so i did not worry about him trying to get out. Anytime I tried to show him the outdoors he would run away. Anyway, the last time i saw him was Saturday night in my living room. I was in and out of my door a few times because this guy i know passed out in his truck infront of my house(i was checking on the damn guy!) I am thinking Dusty may have got out then... but i am not sure. My mom says he probably had the urge to mate with other cats because he was not neutered yet. I had been waiting to neuter him because i was pondering over the idea of getting a female cat and nursing new kittens. Anyway, he was my first cat because i was always a dog lover. I really got attached to the little guy. I only have two pictures of him on my camera phone. I had just got done emailing the lady who gave him to me, to tell her how much he was improving... then this happens. Maybe he will come back. I may get a new cat but not for a few months because I really miss my Dusty and need time. I put his food, toys, and bowls away in my cabinet.

He was one of those cats that could be put in a pet calendar.... he had these amazing eyes. I used to show his pics on my phone to everyone in the regular bars that i met. I really was beginning to think of him as my kid or something. He looked like a stuffed animal in the pictures.

He wanted to mate....he'll be back though, male cats are territorial & your place is his base.

Even though it hurts, he's just following his nature. Human males are like this LOL.

The last unneutered male I had (adopted stray) couldn't handle being in the house & ran away. So let Dusty have his time out & then get him to the vet.....

You should put the food and water bowl outside your door. He will most likely return after his rendevous even if he is a shy cat.

I had a cat that ran away for three months and came home one day. So you never know!

So sorry! I know what it's like to lose a pet. After my first cat got lost I kept opening a window late at night and calling him thinking he might hear me when the whole city was dead asleep...

Now my cat is from the shelter and has a microchip and a tag with name/number to call.

    Hope you find him!

Lolalee I had that happen to me too. My cat ran away for 3 weeks and I was a sad little 5yr old everyday she was gone.
I called her name everyday she was gone and one day atfer getting the morning paper on the corner she came prancing around the corner as happy as can be.
Theres hope! Call his name often at least everyday when you have a moment, keep out some food. I hope you had an ID tag on him so if someone found him theyd know who to call.

From someone who has had one cat or another all her life.. and a few of them 'run away' to never come back... give the cat ONE MONTH (4 weeks) to show up. After that time, grieve for it as it is like it is dead to you.

Next time please do two things:
    * Neutur your cat !!! Unless you are a professional, certified breeder there is NO excuse good enough to allow your cat (male or female) to not be de-sexed.

Just go to any animal shelter and you will realise why I'm so hard core on this.

    * Microchip the cat !! My next cat I am going to have microchipped. I don't have my current Queen (who I serve blissfully lol) microchipped as she is an indoor cat. She hardly ever goes outside and if she does it is only in a small area she explores so I have no fear of her 'running away' or anything like that.

Silky, put his litter box near an open window. If he is lost, he will recognize his smell and follow it home. This worked for me when my cat ran away.

I had a cat very similar to this, Silky. she had the most amazing, beautiful eyes, with a kind of natural eyeliner look to them. She was very, very shy (I got her from some semi-heavy biker people I used to ride with in Texas--she never quite got over her infancy). She ran away a few times and always came back--except the last time, when she was quite old. They tell me she probably ran away to die...

I still mourn her, even though it has been a while now.

However, in your case, with an unneutered male, the bilogical instinct is no doubt to blame. He will most likely come back after he has spread his lovin' around a bit, lol.

Also, many shy cats will suddenly discover that that big bad scary world out there is actually a paradise they were previously unaware of. They will revel in this for a while. Fascinating smells, dense jungles teeming with vermin to hunt down and devour, innumerable nubile feline damsels yowling to be satiated--you get the idea. It takes a while to check all that stuff out, ya know?

Later--if your Dusty is really gone, take heart and look at the new thread I am about to start. I have been meaning to do this for some time, but this has inspired me.

The best and most successful way of finding your cat is to enlist all your copmmunity in helping you. You can do this by putting up hundreds of posters with a good picture all over and making yourself highly available by being at your phone (forwarding to your cellphone etc) because most people wil not call again and the cat has moved on). If you put up enough in places where people outside will see them everyday, after awhile they will remember that the cat is lost and some will even call you. It's sort of like advertising a product in the age of information overload. One look at an ad is nowhere near enough. Example, people go to grocery stores very often and go to work everyday. (When you go out to check out a lead, since you are an attractive gal, it would be good not to go alone.)

Hope it helps. I went thru this hell once. Remember, your cat is just like a young, inexperienced teenager going out in the world the first time.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

Thank you everyone for the advice , I am going to use all these tips to help bring home Dusty. I feel a little better now. At first i thought he just was not happy here and bolted or something. I have some sense now, that he is doing what he really wanted to do.
