Default Sprained Foot slow to heal

Hi there everyone. I've been gone for a while -- because I've been traveling for school, and because I sprained my foot about a month ago and reading about the biz was just making me impatient/antsy to get back.

Problem is, it's still hurting quite a lot, despite that I've been walking around on it for three weeks. It started off being totally impossible to walk on, and got better after about a week/week and a half to the point that I could limp around without a brace. But despite my best efforts I'm still limping. It went from very swollen to only slightly swollen in the first week, but is still slightly swollen.

I'm probably going to start working a couple of shifts again, soon, in my bare feet (which I'm allowed to do, -- never been more thankful that I work in a little hole-in-the-wall!) but I am worried about how long it will take me to be able to get back to shoes, or back in shape (I've gotten a little pudgy in the downtime.)

Anyone else ever had an injury like this ? How long did it take you to recover?

Jeez, Alice, what does your doctor say?

Injuries to the extremities often take longer to heal, because of poor blood supply, and the ankles and feet are the worst, because you can keep re-injuring them by walking on them.

Feet are very important, expecially in this line of work. No fooling around, go see the doc, get an X-ray, take his advice.

yup, I second the motion to go see a doc. Also, walking and dancing around on a bare foot (unless it's bound up properly) will probably just make it worse. So either bind it with an ACE bandage, or wear some type of shoe that looks sexy (maybe do a little girl keds or candie's tennis shoe?) or boots with a little heel, so that the boots (with the binded foot) will help keep the ankle immobile, and thus keep it from twisting and hurting yourself further.

Go see a doctor. If you have access to a pool (either a lap pool or full-size pool) do your walking (with floaties made for water walking) in the pool. When I shattered the bones in all of my left toes and put a hairline fracture into the ball of my foot, my doctor recommended that I do water walking everyday for at least 45 minutes. It keeps the blood flow to the injury and helps it heal faster.

But, you may have more than a sprain. A sprain if iced and heated usually goes away within a week or two. You may have actually fractured a bone in there somewhere (even hairline fractures cause lots of pain and swelling) and really need to get it bandaged up and get some good crutches (make sure to extra-pad the crutches where your arms rest).

Since it's been over a month, I strongly suggest you go see a doc...that's way to long to "nurse a sprain". I've also had sprains and they've gone away, completely, within a week, two the latest. A sprain is just tendons/muscles...you really need to get an x-ray.

    Take care of yourself.
