Necessity for Gaming Employment (Work Cards)

Since 1947, to work on the premises where liquor and gaming are present a person must obtain a Sheriff's Card, (Work Card). I thought the workcard location had changed. The LVMPD (Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept.) website has it listed as:

Work card processing includes interviewing, fingerprinting and photographing. The work card is similar in size to a driver’s license and is issued the same day as applied for provided there are no complications during the process.

Work card issuance is regulated by Clark County Codes, City of Las Vegas Municipal Codes, and Nevada Revised Statutes. The purpose of the work card is to regulate businesses, trades and professions that require a high degree of supervision.
The LVMPD issues work cards at two locations:

The Las Vegas office is located at 5880 Cameron St. For general information, call (702) 229-3271.

The Laughlin office is located at 101 Civic Way (P.O. Box 2284). For general information, call (702) 298-4282.

Work cards currently are issued from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and closed all federally recognized holidays.

    Eligibility for work cards

To apply for a work card, applicants must:
    • Have a signed referral slip from your prospective employer.
    • Be 21 years old if dispensing or selling alcoholic beverages
    • Juveniles 17 and under must bring a permit from Clark County Juvenile Court Services, 601 N. Pecos., when applying for a work card.

Cool. Sticky indeed. It's amazing how often I see this topic and want to post info to help but it is so repetitive.

Hey, Ladies, a lil' off topic, but I eventually want to move to LV. I doubt very much if I'll be dancing, but, is it true you need Sh. Card/Lic. to work anywhere there/any job? I will be doing office work, maybe waitressing. How is it to live there? TY.

So I'd have to get a new buisness licence and sheriff's card? Some of the girls that I work with go back and forth and they said I'd only need the card... but a lot of things have been changing and they've been down there for years.

    Thanx Much

I have just moved here, and pretty mmuch anyone needs a sherif's card. If you work anywhere where there is alcohol or gaming. Which is EVERYWHERE! If you are a janitor at a 7-11 that has slot machines, you have to have one. Office worker, no, don't think so, grocery bagger at Von's with slots, yes. Waitress, yes plus a slew of other cards. Health card, and some other alcohol one. And living here is great. I think anyway. I've been coming here for 9 years, and lived here off and on 9 years ago for 2 years. It can be a beautiful city. I recomment living in Green Valley or Henderson of Summerlin areas. Very residential.

    Good Luck,

Yes, for jobs you do need work cards. Depending on the job, different work cards are needed. To waitress you have to get a sheriffs card, health card and possibly a TAM card if you serve alcohol. Office work, I'm not sure what is required.

    Here is more info:

    Health Cards in Las Vegas:
Health Cards are 100% mandatory in order to obtain one of the following positions:

    Food/Beverage Handler
    Adult Group Care
    Tattoo Technician
    Security Officer
    Child Care Attendant
    Massage Therapist
    Health Club Attendant

Reasonably priced, the Health Card costs only $35.00 and is valid for four years. Everyone applying for a Health Card will receive a Tuberculosis skin test, have a photograph taken and must attend a movie presentation within 30-days of applying for your permanent card.
    Additional information, contact:

    Clark County Health District
    625 Shadow Lane
    Las Vegas, NV 89127

TAM Card - Alcohol Awareness Training:

A TAM Card shows prospective employers that you have completed a course in alcohol awareness. This TAM Card is a must to get any job in a casino or bar employment in Southern Nevada (Anyone serving or working around alcoholic beverages). To obtain a TAM Card is easy and in some cases can even be free, see below.
2 Locations in Las Vegas to receive your TAM Card Training

    East Side
    TAM of Nevada
557 East Sahara Avenue Suite 223
    Las Vegas, NV 89104

    West Side
    TAM of Nevada
2550 South Rainbow Blvd. Suite E-14
    Las Vegas, NV 89146
    For additional information, call 702-647-1954

If you are unemployed, have a Nevada ID or Drivers License, and an employer willing to employ you a minimum of 30 hours per week, you may qualify.
If you do not qualify, the cost is $20 and must be paid in cash, no checks.
Please Note: TAM Cards are good for only 5 years and must be renewed, the renewal class takes two hours.

Pretty much this entire thread is moot from the start as you can't get any of these items without being hired from a club first. And once you are hired, virtually all the clubs in Vegas now have packets that they give the dancers with instructions, paperwork, maps on where to go etc. They deal with this issue several times every day and they've got it down to a science now.

I want to go to vegas and work with a friend, but there is a possibility she has a warrant for running out on a drug charge a few years back in texas. Do you think she'd be able to get a license, or should I go alone?

The last thing you want to do is apply for a sheriffs card if you think you have a warrant. I'm with OTB, go alone.

You'll also need a business liscense. They're $100 a year and $35 for the sheriffs card which is valid for five years. You'll need to show two forms of ID for the latter, I brought my drivers liscense and my social security card. You'll only need your birth certificate if you're under 25.

Also, you'll need to get hired by a club before you can get either. Once you get hired, the club will provide all the instructions on where to go. Plan on spending the better part of a day getting both.

Once you get your license and sherrif's card, you can work right away, right?

My friends and I were planning on spending a Monday getting all our paper work together and starting work on Tuesday. However, some girl told my friend it took her three days to get her license. I don't want to spend three days down there without working. There's no waiting period, right?

Yes, you can work right away. The card you will get the same day and the license will be mailed to you in a few weeks but they can give you a temporary license to work right away.
