The "If the world were 100 people" thing has been circulating in e-mail (and probably before that in printed form) for a long time.
And when I get something like that in my e-mail, I take a words from it, copy-paste it into Google, and this website always seems to be amongst the first results.

The "100 people" thing is not entirely phony, but also not entirely true, or verifiable, and as you can see, like a lot of chain letters, the details seem to change from version to version.

There's a number of inaccurate stats in there (the US is only responsible for 25% of global GDP, not 32%, for example), but I suppose all that its creators care about is the sentiment.
Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.
