    Default Comebacks from yawing

Sometimes I do not get enough sleep and go to work tired. I yawn in the middle of conversation. I can't help it. I know the customers must wonder if I think they're boring, if I am a bad entertainer, or hungover.

How can I save the sale after I yawn?

Well don't make the obvious "yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnning" face. If they say something that interests you, smile with your mouth open or rest your hand on your chin and yawn casually.

Or you could ball your hand into a fist and have knuckles facing you and yawn. It's very discreet.

Great idea. Occassionally this happens to me as well and what I've learned to do is mask a yawn with a light cough and say "Forgive me, it's just a bit smoky in here" or something to that effect. The customer is none the wiser.

^ Good one. Also: fake girly sneeze, and then "My allergies! Excuse me!"

Don't move your mouth, just yawn with your throat.

You could say something like, "Oh I'm so tired, I didn't get much sleep last night. I think I need to do something to wake myself up. Would you like to do a private dance- those always give me energy." Try to use it to sell.

I thought yawns were contagious or is that an old wives tale? Yawns doesn't necessarily mean a person is tired or bored..heck, thinking about yawning is making me yawn now. Reading this thread probably made a few of you yawn as well- power of suggestion at work.

Yawn's aren't completely understood from a psychological standpoint yet but the phisiological reason they happen is due to a short lack of oxygen to the brain which sometimes happen when you are tired. You yawn so that you can suck a deep breath of air into your lungs.

^^me too!! now researchers are theorizing that yawning was an ancient signal to indicate it was time for the tribe to go to sleep. (like when we were cavemen)

do you smoke? I usually will blame yawnig on the lack of oxygen due to smoking

Try drinking a few cups of coffee before your shift starts, spash cold water on your face....try to perk yourself up..do a few jumping jacks to get the blood moving (in the dressing room). It will energize you and you won't be so tierd. If it so happens you do yawn turn your head and try to hide it so the customer doesn't see it and then when you turn back around be perky and smiling.
