    Default Weak hair/breakage

Okay, besides the awesome "Hair" pills and eating lots of gelatine...what else can I take/do to prevent my hair from breaking??

I stopped dying it for about a year now, so no dying & I trim it every two months. I also don't blow dry it everyday. Only once a week, when I go out. No irons either, unless it's a special occasion.

Anyone know of a good shampoo for strength(that may contain gelatine), or anything else??

It's the bleach I did last year that really fucked it up. And the horrible stylist who did it. He left alot of ripped off chuncks underneath my hair ( ), which is now growing.

My hair is breaking a lot, when I straighten or brush it pieces literally fly off! It's because I had an all over bleach and straighten it every day...It's got better since I started using Kerastase - my hairdresser recommended the one with the green lid for weak hair. Also reducing heat damage from straightening irons and hair dryers will help it to stop breaking, and if you do use them try spraying on a heat protectant before you do. Hair extensions, dying, heat damage etc etc reaslly fucks up your hair and mine is taking ages to get better again ):

Yeah, that's what happened to me. I had ALL of my hair bleached. It's been a year now & alot of it has grown out, but not all.

You should condition it every 4 days (Hell, everyday is okay, just make sure you chose one that doesn't weight your hair down) and use reparing treatments like Mendex once a week.

I had chemically relaxed hair (And I bleached my bangs...DUMB!) so my hair was double processed. It didn't really start breaking off till summer hit, when I didn't put product on the bleached part to give it moisture and to prevent breakage, I didn't deep condition it, I had al ot of sun, and chlorine too. So, I am still growing it out. But, it pretty much broke all off so I have like, 3 inch long bangs (ECK).

Ok, first off, how long is your damaged hair? For example, if your hair is 10in long, and 5in of it is damaged, trimming a little off every 2 months isn't helping much. It's best to cut off ALL of the damaged ends. There is nothing left to repair.

To much protein/gelatin on your hair shaft will actually do more damage than good. It will cause your hair to become brittle, eventually breaking off even more. Instead of using different protein/strengthener shampoos/treatments use a moisterizing shampoo/conditioner. What is your hairtype? Depending, you may consider trying an olive oil treatment. Apply that, put on a shower cap, and sit under the dryer. You're hair will thank you for it!

Nexxus has a line called vitatress and they have shampoos that help frail brittle hair grow. Ive been using the biotin cream for my scalp and its helping my roots get stronger. I have extentions so this helps alot.

Not that long. It's shoulder length. I don't want to chop it all at once... then i'll feel like i'm bald headed. I'm gonna give the olive oil treatment a shot, sounds good.

See, that's what I figured..that you didn't want to let it go all at once. Well, I'm telling you the honest truth, it's just something you have to do. Trimming "gradually" is not doing anything Vyanka. Once hair splits, it will continue to split up until it hits the scalp. Then it will begin to GROW OUT splitting I know cutting all the damage off at once seems drastic, but it really is something you should consider if you want you hair long, strong, and healthy.

Doing olive oil treatments on splitting, damaged hair isn't going to do you much good. Consider cutting your damage off, getting a weave or donning a wig. Anything, just don't keep that damaged hair girl...

Ok you need to condition every time you shampoo. NOT every 4 days. And you REALLY need to get your hands on a treatment. The best one for someone who heat styles and puts her hair back in ponytails (like we ALL do when we get home) is a product by Redken called Anti-Snap.

    http://www.redken.com/products/index...522&bt=1&b=263

You can get it at Trade Secret and at some Walgreen's and Target stores.

Use it after every shampoo and condition, comb it through your ends and blow dry/style as usual.

    Good luck.

Eggs. No joke...when my hair was fucked from over-processing, I egged up my hair every week (1-2 times per week) let it dry completely and then rinsed it out and did a very, very light shampoo with baby shampoo.

If you can, get free-range organic eggs to do this.

I partly agree with this...however, I do not believe that healthy hair splits like dry hair does. If I am not mistaken, split ends will travel to where the hair is healthy and then stop. The bad thing, though, is that longer hair always gets drier towards the ends, naturally...so it WOULD keep splitting until you got rid of the problem from the get-go.

Cut it all off...as short as you can. I had to do that with my hair last year. It was mid-back and I cut it to up above my shoulders. But, it looked and felt so much better.

How much hair, exactly, are you needing to cut off?

Ive tried anti-snap by redken and that stuff works great too! I only needed one bottle to help my hair fully get stronger. And this was after I got a chemical hair straightening.

Don't wash it out with warm water though, it can "cook" into your hair and be a bitch to get out.

heh, i loved the scent of anti snap but it made my hair look frizzy...

anyways, here's what i swear by: Nexuss Emergencee polymeric reconstructor left on hair for 10 min and a heating cap, followed by a moisturizing mask (either l'oreal nature's therapy or my grail silk elements megasilk moisturizing treatment, both from Sally's, or Paul Mitchell Supercharged moisturizer), left on for as long as you like, and also with heat if you want. Protein treatments need to be followed my moisture or hair might break off.

A lot of people use Aphogee from Sally's to deal with serious damage, and it's supposedly one of the most effective products of a kind on the market. {Wish I knew of it back when i was fucking up my poor hair into all shades and colors imaginable like every 2 weeks.} Follow with Porosity Control (Wella makes a similar product, forgot the name), and then a moisturizer.

^^ Yep, you can do the same thing using whole milk. Rinse with cool water.

I strongly recommend cutting it all, I know you will end up with a pretty short do, but you can make it work by getting some of the colored texturing glues and making it kind of punk looking. Really your hair won't get better leaving any fried ends on. When you brush it, you'll aggravete the hair and rip more out. I use Biolage's Pre Plus because after swimming for years and bleaching my hair used to be fried. I cut if all off at a chin length bob and it is now, 2.5 yrs later down to my ass.

Fekkai overnight hair repair. It is very expensive (200$) but it is also very good. Just putting it on I see that my hair is so much better. My hair is silky and looks perfect.

You really should cut off the damaged parts. Also I recommend Nioxin. It really helped my hair.

Redken's Antisnap! Miracle product in my book. Cycle it on and off though. Once I'm done with a bottle I won't buy another one for 3 months or so because it's a protien product and you aren't supposed to use those continuously. I bleach my hair and this really really works for me. It's helped me grow my hair very long. I use pantene pro v shampoo and their 3 minute mask hair conditioner but only shampoo and condition 2 times a week, keeping my hair up mostly when I'm not at work or going out.

    how's your diet sweetie?

all of these topical solutions are good (especially the egg suggestion), but to get healthy hair for real you need a healthy diet consisting of lots of veggies, fruit, whole grains, and lean proteins (like fish). a good multi vitamin, along with some extra biotin and even some silica (horsetail supplement) couldn't hurt either.

at least that's what i do (except for the fish...i don't eat meat). my hair and nails are growing like weeds now, and the areas were my hair was falling out are finally growing back...but that's getting off topic.

a good shampoo and conditioner would just help things along a bit.
why do some people still have to fight to get the same opportunities that are given to others?

    reclusiveness...is a good thing.

    Hey girls...

I stumbled upon something while surfin' the web for a salon called BIOLUSTRE. Supposedly it reconstructs the hair back to a virgin state. It cost around $100 per treatment but claims you can do upto 6 chemical treatments in one day with NO DAMAGE. I think I am going to give it a try. I got the info off of a salon website but you can get the information here...

Just sounds too good to be true!

It's not bad. I actually eat as healthy as I can. I also read somewhere that caffeine makes your hair grow out like crap. I also take a multi-vitamin in the morning, along with the hair pills. But I gotta chop all this hair off, eh. I just wont think about it & it'll grow fast. lol.
