    Default Question about venison

Sorry if this offends anyone out there..

I've heard that venison is alot better for you than beef. I love steak and typically eat one a day sometimes more so I was wondering, would it be healthier for me to switch to venison instead? I now have almost 200 lbs of it in my deep freezer thanks to a hunter in the family.
I like the way it tastes and all I'm just not sure if it'd be ok for me to eat that much of it like I do with beef.. you know, that whole too much of a good thing bit.

So, safe to switch or no?
    Anyone?

My uncles hunt deer, and from what they have told me it's alot leaner than beef.

I agree its leaner , but I myself love meat but you sound like you really eat way too much red meat . My Doc has even told me to eat less red meat maybe like a few times a month .

I love it too and yeah I know I eat too much of it but I'm healthy and young, so I can still get away with it for a while. Once it starts affecting my health I'll cut back.

I love venison, and it is a lot leaner than beef. I also have tons of it it my freezer and I eat it all the time. I would rather have a venison steak than a regular beef steak.

It is so much better for you than beef.

Especially since it's not fed any hormones, or gross feed like most cattle is.

I would rather eat deer than cow any day of the week.

I personally don't put much stock in what the "FDA" says anymore, one week they say eggs are bad then the next week they are good again. They are too wishy washy.

I just use common sense and a good track record to determine what I should eat. What I mean by track record is if hundreds of thousands of people have eaten this for years, and they were fine, then it's probably ok, lol.

Like I eat lean meat, fresh veggies if I can get them, and good breads and grains and such.

Although, I do have to be a little more strict soon, I want to tone up much more than I am now.

It IS much leaner. The taste isnt 100% the same as beef, however. Ostrich is a lot like beef as well... but they're hormone fed usually, unlike wild deer (unlike farm-raised deer). White Tail is good, Mule deer is good too. I never got big into Elk, though. White Tail pepperoni is GREAT!

Yes, what every one says. It's better for you. Leaner, better fed, and free roaming. Wild game is generally better (if hunted in the right season) then captive animals. They forage for their own food and exercise properly. Also, as stated above they aren't given weight and growth triggering hormones.
If you like it's taste(I do) eat it up!

Everybody in my family hunts deer. They all say "Well, you ain't had it like I cook it", I have tried it a million different ways and still I don't like it. But if you like it it's definately leaner than beef. Cattle tend to be raised off fattier substances. Whereas, deer eat shrubs and grass mostly. Generally, you are what you eat

Likewise. I grew up hunting and fishing. I ate a lot of White Tail, Mule deer, turkey, pheasant, grouse, rabbit, etc.... I miss those days. Man, such good food.

I still love to fish. I have no quirlls about catching a fish, cleaning and cooking it. I have only caught and ate fresh water fish though. Since I live close to the ocean now I would love to go salt water fishing and have some of that.

So would that be for, like, a Bambi Pizza?
Most people live dejectedly in wordly joys or sorrows. They sit on the sidelines and do not join in the dance. The knights of infinity are dancers and possess elevation. They rise up and fall down again, and this is no mean pastime, nor unpleasant to behold.

Oh gosh - poor deer... I could never eat it - I guess because I wasnt raised eating it so it grosses me out... like duck and rabbit. Gross. Poor animals. For some reason eating a chicken or cow or pig doesnt gross me out. I also HATE seafood... grodie.

Meat is ALWAYS better when its free roaming. I pay a lot for my chicken because they are organic. A tiny chicken (like 1/2 the size of a foster farms) is like $9-10! Beef seems to be around the same price whether its free roaming or the stuff they sell at the grocery store...yet it has no hormones in it...

Both game and farm raised venison are extremely lean meats. New Zealand venison steaks are a deep red almost purple color with no visible fat. They are very pricey, I think around $25/lb. The steaks are similar in taste and texture to filet mignon. Game venison is another matter. Tough and stringy. Works in stews, however.

Lol, you need to try some of my cooking then. You wouldn't know what it was till I told ya, and you would beg for more!!

We are raised that cows are supposta be eaten, that's why it's easier for youu to chow down on a big mac. Deer has a much better taste, but bear (when it's cooked right) it the best thing I have ever eaten, lol!
