I've gone to master jay in CC and Pole by Patricia in south philly.

Lowdown, M.J is really just shady people working out a hole in the wall dump on a side street by rittenhouse, its next to raven lounge, broke down retail shop is the entrance and the only way you'd know it's there is the 8"x10" print out on the door. Walk in and immediately you're in a skanky hallway which you go up a few flights, watch the stairs, they are steep and banister not so great.
Knock on another door with cheap printed signage and you're in. When me and my friend went the ladies were socializing, we stood there for a few mins expecting to be greeted and pay the fee($15pp). After a bit an older housemom type noticed us standing around checking the place out and looking awkward so she matter of factly tells us we must sign in, acts like she was bored and sits back down without further comment.

OK, well, guess we get ready huh?

The room in about the size of a living room, actually its a converted studio apt. We got to sit on plastic lawn chairs lined up next to wall and stretched ourselves out. Seems the few women there had been coming for some time and were practicing moves on the poles, about 8 of them, X pole remov. Class filled up and after start time and instructors were late even then.

I was really psyched to be at that particular class bc instructor Bunny Love was there, I just started out with a pole passion and her vids seemed amazing at the time, (now I know she's nowhere near Felix Cane). She and another instructor stretched the class (about 15 girls) .

Get your heels on bitches! no lie, she said this. No prob, i love heels and the higher the better but wow i didn't expect the harsh treatment. So she demonstrated a spin, quickly and no focus on grip or specifics, just a watch this and do it way of teaching. we learned two simple spins, and most of the time the instructors we chatting with themselves or vet students. my friend and i actually had another student give us more attention and teach us the specs, pivot this way so you don't catch your ankles with your heels or bump pole and lose momentum etc etc.
All in about an hour and fifteen. I left feeling underwhelmed and feeling like i could have did better with youtube vids. Grade- D-

Never the less, I was still crazy about pole dancing and a friend bought me a pole. HELL YEAH! SO, with 9ft chrome piece of sexiness in my living room I wanted to do more than youtube. I searched other studios, Poise also in SP and Patricia. I dunno but something about Patricia got me, so off I go.

Kinda hard to find and in warehouse thing, but you walk in and its GORGEOUS! Awesome wood floor, dance mirrors everywhere, 16ft poles well spaced and boudoir furniture and nice chairs are interspersed throughout, it's awesome and HUGE!,(i'm sorry if i sound snobby but I like places to be nice and make me feel comfy. I'm also in high end sales so image means a ton)

Anyway, So we stretch and Patricia is a total safety nut and hammers into us the importance of it.

Off the the races! Every move, between pole, getting up prettily from floor("I don't want to see you getting up like lumps from floor, rise like sexy ladies."), presence, spacial /body timing, etc etc is explained in detail. She demonstrates, explains, does again, and then you practice for 5mins, which everyone then stops and performs the technique one by one while Patricia critiqued and praised. It was great to watch other girls and learn from their minute off moments and getting personal time with instructor. Student even got the mothering tone to eat protein after we left and hit weights with specific exercises to help.

Patricia is a beautiful woman inside and out. Her ability to be both physical trainer and dance instructor is awesome. And she has rock on the studio ipod dock,

She's fuckin' awesome. GO! Go now!

I have to agree that Master Jays is not a legit pole studio. My yoga studio is in the same building as them so I've seen and heard bits and pieces of plenty of their classes...it would probably be fun for civilians trying to feel sexy but as far as actual pole work and safety I really wouldn't recommend them.
