    Meth Question

Tonight we heard that one of our friend's daughter's was just commited to detox for a Meth addiction. Until now she was a senior in college and an A student. Then she hooked up with a "bad" guy who got her hooked. Oh, by the way, the guy had full blown AIDS.

She is in for 30 days. I hear there is only a 6% success rate on kicking Meth. Is this true?

    This is really sad.

No, I know some people personally who have kicked it for good.
    She will need moral support.

UH, the bad news: for some people, they will never stop. I saw one news story that claimed the rate of drug re-use by "detoxed" meth addicts is upwards of 90 percent.
The good news: those are the ones who really liked it too much. Many people try meth & never do it again, because (according to a cokehead I talked to) meth can cause muscle pain that other drugs won't, or the high is too "sharp".
It also causes skin boils, crumbling teeth & cobweb brains...and a weakened immune system that can lead to transmission of fatal disease. Yeeeah. Oh well. As painful as it is to witness addiction (speaking from experience here) we are all here to use our freewill to live our lives. There will be people who make poor choices. It's their lives....

No, my friend kicked it on her own because her friends were going to call Children and Youth Services on her. She cleaned up for him, it was hard but she did it. Support her!

I have a family member who kicked Meth 10 years ago. At detox he was told less than 10% stay clean. And according to his experience , that was true.

The trick to beating a drug addiction (according to him) is after detox to go to continue w/ support groups and most important of all, change the enviroment .

By changing the enviroment I mean 100% cut contact with ALL people who they used with, move to a new area if possible. Start a new life. A clean life without the reminders and temptations of the past.

I am saying a prayer for your daughters friend.

Success is mostly dependant on completely changing the social environment. Like, moving across the country.

I have a friend who kicked it. From what I've heard it permanently alters your brain so I think that's why it's so tough. Your body will end up needing it to feel normal. I guess that's what a physical addiction is basically. Hope she kicks it. That is one nasty drug.

    good info

Its always best to remember if you want it you can achieve it. And most addictions have at least a few rebounds.. the point is to keep trying to get sober.

Thanks for all of your insights. This is a girl who never had any problems with drugs. The father is devastated and crys at home about the situation because there is really nothing he can do.

The "boy friend" visited the girl at the clinic and actually took her more drugs. Of course the big concern is about her now getting AIDS. Nothing is more devastating to a parent than losing a child.

    Please take care of yourselves.

^Tell her dad to do whatever it takes to keep that "boyfriend" away. I know of a woman who was addicted to heroin, and she died in the hospital because someone brought her a fix when she was too sick to take it. Well, she took it. That's why addiction is so horrible.

My sister was able to do it but she had to find a reason in her life to do so. It takes a lot of willpower. You have to want to quit, tell him to put up pictures of horrid looking junkies anywhere she can see them, she has to want to not end up like that. It takes a long time of being sober to face the reality that if you continued with using that you would someday resemble those pictures.

Crystal Meth is the new epedemic. I was in a relationship with a crystal meth addict for 2 1/2 years but we've been friends for years. Funny, I've never done any drugs ever, mostly because I saw what he turned into. this stuff makes you go crazy. He attempted suicide a few times, saw things, it turns you into a scizophrenic. He was addicted for about 5 years full of stealing and lying. I think that he has quit, I;m never fully sure. But he looks alot better.

What helped? I don't know. I could never save him. But he went to detox a few times. The last time I guess it worked. Then he moved away to the burbs and never sees ANYONE. Hasn't a girlfriend since me (like 3 years ago), stays in his house all the time watching tv, and goes to work. It's sad. He's smart, very attractive, and a really great guy but if he leaves his boring "santuary" of sorts he would probably go back to meth. So now, he's trapped under his own will. I just wish that he hadn't started at all. Ruined years of his and my own life.

Meth ruins lives ^^ the girl I posted about ~ that was her 2nd suicide attempt in a year. Before meth, she was actually a really awesome chick, now she is a whored out junkie trying to kill herself. She quits trying to get away from it whenever she gets depressed.

To the OP, I hope it all works out for your friend, people going thru Meth withdrawls have a hard time functioning in real life, be a friend if you can, but don't get taken advantage of, Meth heads are good at that.

I did meth a little over three years ago for a few months. I kicked the addiction on my own after begging my parents to help me get into a rehab. I think Meth is disgusting sure when I got high I was living for it like oh this is great but for me at the slightest down on it all hell broke loose and I would know that it was completely unholy to ever feel that kind of sadness and pain. Most ex-tweakers I met scoff at me saying I only did it for a night or two never staying up longer then that and how I only did it for a month stint a few times. Not like a full month doing it everyday. My best friend (since 3rd grade) was hooked for 7 years. She's been clean 2 years now and engaged to a guy she met in her two year long rehab inpatient/outpatient program. There is always light at the end of the tunnel

Well, for some people, its easy, for some people, they never stop until they die.

i used meth for a few years, from the time I was 14 till almost 17, a few months after I quit, I got pregnant with my son. my son's dad, my ex-husband, to this day, still uses meth, and will probably never stop. When I saw him last spring, he looked like shit! He had burn marks on his lips, had lost a few more teeth and was SUPER skinny!!

Its really sad to see on anybody, not so much my ex husband, because I don't like him, but for my son's sake, its pretty sad. my son is 5 and wonders why his dad only called him once last year and why he FINALLY got his Christmas presents and birthday presents (my son's birthday was December 1st) LAST FRIDAY!!! And it wasn't much!

I've lost a few friends to meth, but for me, seeing how gross it makes people, I'll NEVER do it again! I've already lost one tooth, (luckily its the one in the back right next to where the wisdom tooth grows in, so nobody can see it) but its all from usin meth for those few years way back when!

How long does it take for someone to get skinny? I have a friend who seems to do this stuff every few days. Even more than that I'm sure....he sells the stuff so its not like he can get away from it.

He is somewhat overweight, I find myself looking at his skin when we run into each other but I don't see anything bad.

to get skinny you have to get hooked. which means you will most likely be on it all the time. You won't even realize days going by. As long as you have the drug you will be ok then when you come down if you are to hooked you will find other ways to get it or you will make money to get it. This is why alot of tweakers rob houses. Lucky for girls we can at least strip and make enough money for drugs, unlucky for everyone drugs will make you dwell deeper into things you may not be ready to see.

A freind of mine when I lived in vegas really wanted to do it to lose weight since a friend of hers *seemed* ok by doing it. I tried to help her not do it but then when Is aw it wasn't going to work I got it for her through a loose aquintaence from my old neighbor and I did it with her. Stupid be for relapsing but I only did 4 lines of it and I slept between the two sets of two. My friend however decided to keep going and lie to me to get it through another source since she knew I wouldn't be doing it again. Well a year later I hear from her again. Her dads car he gave her smashed by the tweaker, 8,000 of her money taken from him to suppossedly buy drugs that never came when he finally took off to hidiing when that ran the well dry. Now my friends really screwed up I offer my assistance in any possible way as long as she's not on the tweak (since I have a child) but she feels more secure living with the guy who gives her those thousands for living at his house.

The stories I have are endless about the tweak world. It is possible to get in and out without causing society or yourself much harm I do have a few friends who seem to have pulled it off (although they could hold skeletons of there own) Anyone who has beat the addiction I have respect for in that one aspect of themselves.

It's important to note the a huge part of meth addiction is your social group. As Lena said she needs to be completely removed from her social group including this scumbag guy. She will likely need many years of support and depending on her level of addiction, she may need support the rest of her life. Good luck
