Default Yay another BA thread: yeast infections?

I was wondering while you are given anti-bitiotics. Well if youre on the pill and anti-biotics wont that make a fine place for a YI to start up?
IME everytime I was on anti-biotics I would get a YI b/c I was on the pill too.

I really dont want another YI from the anti-biotics. Does this happen to you girls who were on the pill at the same time? Maybe I should stop my pill the week of just in case- but Id rather not want to go off it.

When they give you your antibiotic prescription, ask for a scrip for Diflucan. If you do get a yeast infection, take the Diflucan (it's just one pill) and it'll be gone in a day or two. You don't have to fill the scrip unless you get the infection.

Nope, not at all. Gone in one day. I did it on Mon. & still don't have it.

Edit: I have a gyno appointement this Monday too. So i'll know there if it's COMPLETELY gone. But if feels like it is.

^^^yes garlic is great! It's naturally antifungal. so you just insert a clove. What you do is thread a piece a string through it..and insert it like a tampon..much easier to get out when needed.

Also, when your on antibiotics, you can go get some acidophilous..you get it in the natural food section. They have chewable (I give this to my kids), capsule and liquid. I usually get strawberry cause it tastes yummy

You can also insert PLAIN yogurt..I'd get the organic kind that does not have sugar or anything else. Make sure it has live cultures in it. You can even make yogurt "popsicles". You take clean empty tampon applicators. Fill the top part with yogurt and freeze it. Feels REALLY good when they are frozen and you insert it. Your body naturally melts it. Just be sure to do it before bed, otherwise you'll end up with a mess in your pants! lol

Try to limit your sugar intake, yeast LOVES sugar, so they will multiply fast if you eat too much.

The anti-biotics will cancel out your BC pills.I had break through bleeding for 20 days straight after my BA.

OTB, thank you for the reminder.

Everyone: DO NOT RELY ON THE PILL FOR BIRTH CONTROL IF YOU ARE TAKING AN ANTIBIOTIC.
The antibiotic will render your birth control pill ineffective. Continue to take the pill to keep your cycle on track, but do not rely on it for birth control! ALWAYS use a backup until the end of your next period!

Antibiotics will make the pill ineffective so use a back up birth control method. Ask your doctor for Diflucan...one pill does the job.

Yea I agree with what the other girls said, but your doctor should def be telling you this info when giving you an antibiotic script!

i have had major surgeries and REFUSED the antibiotics. yeah i'm kinda nuts like that. i just overloaded on healthy foods, immune boosting herbs, lots of handwashing, keeping my place clean and careful of who i let in (kinda like quarantine), etc. my doctor was aware. (this wasnt for a ba). kinda against antibiotics here.

however, i would get off the pill- too many meds in the system messes me up and gives me a period of the 'craps'- you know that yucky feeling of your body being overloaded on rxs. i would just skip it that month to get the bc pill out of your system. take antibiotics if that's what he recommends or you could try something more natural- but ask doc first. i wouldnt take something for a yeast infection while on the antibiotics- wait until you've taken all the medication, maybe even wait an extra 2 or 3 days. i have taken diflucan, which didnt work for me. i use acidophilus for about 1 week with LOTS of water (and lots of water if on antibiotics!). i wash down there daily and use br. broner's baby castile soap. everything else gives me issues. maybe you could also try one of those 'cleaning' kits that clean out your system before surgery- if you're not taking any meds right now (ask doc 1st). i'd do it about 1 month before surgery. i notice personally, that i feel better recovering if i do this.

Eat yogurt and take acidopholus while you are taking the antiobiotics. I HATE antiobiotics because they always give me a YI and the BC pills just make it worse. I wouldn't stop taking your BC unless you are serious about getting off it. One month on and the next off will mess up your cycle and you'll end up bleeding irregulary all month when you start again. Use backup for the month and ask for the diflucan just in case. Or use the garlic clove if you are comfortable with that.
