Default ATX girls...what has the smoking ban done to your money?

I started dancing again in October, so I'm not sure if there was a big drop-off in business when the ban went into effect in September, but things seem fairly slow right now -- slower than I remember from a few years ago. Dancers who've been at my club for a while say business has been dramatically worse since the ban started. The clubs up north (Joy's, XTC, Perfect 10) are outside of the smoking ban's jurisdiction, and frequently advertise the fact that you can still smoke in the club. I'm wondering if business has picked up up there, as the smokers flee to safe ground. Personally, I LOVE not having to sit in a smoke-filled room 8 hours a day anymore, but how much is it hurting business?

All of the clubs I've been to/worked at in Austin tend to not really enforce the smoking ban. At least once the night shift starts, or until 10 pm. When the customers ask for an ash tray, they give them a plastic cup with a little bit of water in it. That way, if TABC comes in, plausible deniability. We just gave them water, didn't know they were smoking, blah blah. Or the waitresses circulate throughout and let everyone know TABC is there and they put out their ciggies in the "ashtray" and the waitress throws it away.

It's generally worth the fine to a club to keep that many of their customers happy and coming back.

I personally wouldn't know what effect the ban has had on the topless clubs since i just started dancing in December. But I know that the club i work at just lets the guys smoke and "encourages" them to put out thier cigs in the plastic glasses of water. The only time that they actually make someone put out their cigs is when someone complains about the smoke.

Personally i try to avoid the custys who do lite up, just grosses me out.

I do know one girl who's been working in austin for 3 years. she also has said that buisness has been going down dramatically over the years. She started off making about $1000 a night, and now she's down to an average of $300.

I am curious as to what's a good club to work at in Austin though... I've only been working at Expose so far. Any thoughts?

Just do a search for Austin clubs. There are about a billion on here and most of them are pretty helpful. I'm currently working at the Landing Strip. I love it there, but I think anyone just starting out loves their first club (assuming they are making money/havingfun/being treated well). I'm going to Audition at YR soon though, as it's closer to my house and according to a good friend of mine, much more $$$ potential. THe common consensus among girls on this site recommend YR, Perfect 10, Expose, and Sugars.

Landing Strip has an outside patio for smoking. When I went to Palazi-ho, we sat in VIP and smoked to our heart's content with the plastic cups. I only danced for about 2 months after the ban took effect, so its hard to tell, but its generally a pretty slow time right now anyway.

Edit to add: Expose, aka The Church on the Hill, sucks. There's very little money there.

What did you dance by at Palazio? I waitressed there from August-November and LOVED it. Management (jason, john, and bishop) were fucking amazing and I met some of the best dancers ever. Of course when I made the switch to dancing I was too chickenshit to start there, instead opting for a more of a lowrent place (landing strip) to grease my boobie feet.

I have been not dancing now for a month or two and was considering switching clubs. I was at P10, which I loved, but am thinking of maybe Sugar's b/c its closer to home. Anyone know which clubs are making the best money right now b/c if P10 is still where its at, then I'm just gonna have to drive my lil booty up there. thanks

While I have never smoked, during my first work experiences everybody smoked. While the soda fountain only had people who smoked at the counter, the night club eatery had
a tobaco counter and cigarette girls for atmosphere on Friday and Saturday. I remember as a bus boy being required to carry a fairly fancy butane lighter to light customers
cigarettes as it was a class place. I thought the lighter was coo and It still works.

What are the TABC? Sounds like the Geheime Stats Polizei which in German means
High State Police. The acronym became of course Ge sta Po. Do these TABC's go around in brown uniforms handing out tickets to those smoking cigarettes?

Sounds like a local version of alcohol prohibition from 1920-1933. Great opportunity for the local mob to open secret smoking bars or clubs or something.

In our area we are too far away from Chicago to notice any effect of the limited smokig ban that went in effect in the city. Should be darn good for business out here on weekends, since we aren't going to enact those laws.

Are there also garbage police and water sprinkler police?

I'm not sure why they would be involved though considering that its a local law and doesn't even involve alcohol. Weird.

Bishop is a sweetheart. I never worked at Palazi-ho, I know way too many people who frequent it. There was always money to be made there though, because so many of the girls there are LAZY, LAZY, LAZY....I'd totally be in the mood to see some tee-tays tonight too.....

Sugars is deadish right now. Wait a 2-3 weeks until Christopher gets the clubs shit back together, and the good steady clientelle comes back. I'm gonna suck it up and work at the Rose till then.

The Austin Chronicle usually has ads for most of the clubs in town.

You can stay at any discount hotel or motel chain off of I35 corridor. From Motel6 to Hilton to Hoe-liday in. I would avoid any motel off I35 south of 183 and north of UT campus.

Palazio near downtown could always use quality new girls.....
