    Pump up that hair!!

I have pretty long wavy hair that I dyed black and I can NOT for the life of me get any volume to stay in it. When I have it curly/wavy it looks pretty full, but if I straighten it, it just lays all limp and flat. I want to have full, voluminous looking hair...

Below is how I'd LIKE it to look and the other is of course ME. Flat and blah. My hair is VERY long (at least the bulk iin the back and what not) When I pull the longest part from the back over my shoulder it completely covers my boobs just to give a perspective

When you're straightening your hair, you're actually flattening it, so that's why it lays flatter. Don't straighten your roots- leave an inch or two at your roots so that it doesn't lay so flat. You could try different volumizing products to see what works for you. When I straighten my hair, I don't pull it flat down while I'm straightening, but I pull it out, away from my head as I straighten, if that makes any sense. When the straightener gets to the end of your hair, just let your hair fall. This will straighten it, but still give it a little volume. I hope that made sense- its hard to explain.

Ahh good question. One hairstylist I saw puffed up my hair like a porn star (though obviously not quite so much) at the roots, and how its kinda puffy in the back... She used some product like spray mousse I think. I could move it however I wanted and it would just stay there. Maybe it was just hairspray haha

you might try and get a blow out. insta volume. I can't do the shit myself to save my life. But its worth paying for at a salon.

Yes, flat-ironing your hair will cause to lie flat, purpose intended. It sounds like you have volume in your hair to begin with. Try blow drying it straight and putting a few hot rollers around your crown area. Hot rollers are great for adding volume, as well as, teasing your hair. Also, try Big Sexy Hair hairspray and mousse.

    Try Aveda's Phomollient.

    It's a weightless leave-in foam.

    It's the best ever.

And dont dry the roots all the way and leave off the pomades and silicone based products for shine and smoothness.

In the picture, it looks like the model's hair is teased, and slightly messy. It also isn't stick-straight, it has some texture to it. Maybe use a lower heat setting on your flatiron, so that your hair will be straighter, but still with some wave and texture to it. Curl the ends with a wide-barrel curling iron, or just curl them under with your straightener. Use a texturizing shine spray when you're done.

Cut some long layers in your hair. Then use paul mitchell body shampoo or sabastians. Blow dry your hair upside down and dont straighten it smooth it as you blow dry when its almost dry and put large hot rollers for volume not curl. Tease a bit and spray with big sexy hair spray or a similar product.

thanks michele1, that sounds like a plan, the only thing is I HAVE blow dried upside down before and even though I end up getting a little volume out of it, I also get those damned little hairs on top of my head that just stick up straight and make me look like a 2 year old that just woke up from a nap! anybody else have this problem?

yea - you can use a wax to put them in place... you need big curlers... like the 2" ones... blowdry but not fully dry and put the curlers in... theyre velcro ones. Then blow your hair fully dry... take out curlers... flip head upside down and spray with hairspray... when you flip it back youll have so much volume youll have to tame it!

Hey, that's a good question, oulala reminded me, how the heck do you get that slightly wavy huge porn star hair? Like the kind Pamela Anderson always has? (I feel like such a newb, I'm always asking shit like this haha)

For porn star hair use large hot rollers, and when you take them out, pull the hair down a little so it has more wave than curl, and separate the curls.

SECONDED on the Small Talk rec; that works very well for me....but I also put it in when my hair is wet (JUST ON THE ROOTS); pull it up into a top ponytail and let it dry. I also comb my hair out straight while wet...I have naturally wavy hair. Usually that works for me and when dry; I can curl it or leave it straight--or use the iron (away from the roots) and make it very straight and shiny. To get the porn star hair; use hot rollers--really BIG ones.It does help to give your hair a break from your usual shampoo and conditioner and get a clarifying one--like Neutrogena's. I have started using LUSH products and I swear my hair had so much body the other day I had to rewash my hair with silicone based products just to get it to calm down. AND I have fine hair!!
