I'm atheist, but if I tell people my choice of religion or lack thereof, some people act as if I've just stated that I like to drown babies. One pair of fundamental Christian parents (so bad that they don't let their kids watch Sesame Street because it shows divorce and glorification of a demon in the form of the Count) told me that they don't want to have such influences around their children and asked me never to see them again. I'm not evil, and I share a lot of the same morals as most of them, but atheism is somehow associated with immorality. I usually don't mention my atheism, but if people ask, I won't lie.
Can you help me list some other things that you say that really aren't bad at all, but make people shift their feet uncomfortably and make quick, negative judgments?
1) I take baths with my children (Bathing is a family and social thing in Japan, but my Japanese friend's sister-in-law went apeshit and threatened to call Child Protection Services on him).
2) I don't believe in God/Jesus.
3) I'm atheist.
4) I'm pro-choice.
5) I can't stand kids.
6) I don't want to have kids.
7) I'm an exotic dancer.
I believe in premarital sex and cohabitation.
9) I'm gay/lesbian/bisexual.
10) I don't plan to go to college.
