    Default BA's and Depression....

Sorry I keep posting so many things, questions keep poppin in my head though. Has anyone who's gotten a BA gotten really depressed afterward? I've heard of girls that had this happen to them. I go through some pretty bad bouts of depression sometimes (like right now) they're sometimes unexplained, but nonetheless, I've heard that if you are like me you should be careful about considering getting a BA because apparantly (don't know if this is true) suicide rates are higher?..... So yah, anyone have a bad bout of depression after their surgery?

I had surgery last year, and felt so crappy for two weeks (I looked HORRIBLE, but I did have facial surgery done and had a lot of swelling.) I look like a chatacter from the clumps.

I think after you have any surgery you get a little depressed but you have to think ahead in terms of like, 4 months and how good they'll look then. Have a friend that is really close to you come over like every other day to watch a movie, or something. That's what I had my girlfriend at the time do (She happened to be my best friend too and I knew she wouldn't laugh, well, we did but with each other, I looked so funny).

But, boobs are different. I say go for it, make sure to do whatever the doctor says and remember in 6 weeks (max) you'll be up and going out and doing things!

I wasn't near killing myself, probably because I had friends around and even my parents sometimes so it wasn't lonely or anything.

I think if you are getting plastic surgery for the right reason, you should be okay.

I think it should be to enhance your look...not make you "perfect".

I haven't had a BA yet, so I don't know from personal experience, but I think that depression could be higher after a BA because some girls may in a way regret what they did. You could also get depression after a BA because of post-traumatic stress. Any kind of major surgery is a stress on your body and in your life, and many surgery patients, no matter what kind of surgery, can suffer from this. I had this problem after my knee surgery.

I think patience is the key if you get any type of cosmetic surgery. When I got my BA I was in a lot of pain and very nausious from the pain meds for about a week. So I guess I was somewhat depressed during that time. Mainly because I couldn't do anything but lay around the house. But once the swelling and pain went away I was so happy I did it and I didn't regret it at all.

I remember when that study (the one saying girls w/BAs were more likely to commit suicide)was in the news--it was when I was researching for my BA. There were several things that appeared to be flawed about it--one thing I remember is that the research group was not large and were from a country where suicide rates were higher anyway. So I would take that with a grain of salt.

I also have had some major problems with depression, but have actually been really healthy for the last 4 years-2 and 1/2 of which I have had my boobs. My boobs, dancing, and breaking up with an ex have all really boosted my self-esteem. If its something you really want--go for it! Just make sure you do lots of research and know what you are getting into. Go to implantinfo.com every day!!!

Being depressed immediatly after a BA is not uncommon. The drugs they give you to put you under often have that side effect. That, along with the bruising, pain and healing will take a toll on your body, which takes a toll on your mood. Of course not everyone will expereince this, but if you do, it is only temporary.

As for the suicide study. Correlation does not implay causation. What I mean is...You take a group of women who have enough of a self esteem issue to go under the knife--->You have a group of people who are already more prone to mental health issues. The fact that the suicide rates are higher does not imply that getting surgery made them suicial, they were already at higher risk of suicide regardless of surgery because of their pre-existing mindset.

The suicide rates are higher because, in my opinion, many women expect too much from a BA. Bigger boobs do not give a person the dream life she's always wanted. Yet, women tend to believe this anyway.

If you understand that a BA makes your boobs bigger and nothing more, I don't think you are at a higher risk.

The reason most women experience depression after surgery is because the anesthesia changes your body's pH balance temporarily.Your body is not designed to be "put under" and therefore, reacts this way to it.This is completely normal and completely temporary.
