being tan makes some girls skinnier, can hide cellutite, which can translate into more money and/or confidence when dancing...etc, and being tan was formerly associated with being "healthy" (before all that info about skin cancer came out), and also the beach, leisure, and fun climates.

I wouldn't mind being black or looking black but I'm so damn pale that's not going to happen unless I tattoo my entire body. Darker skin seems to hide cellulite.

I agree with Meea. Exposure to UV lights can reduce depression and make a person feel happier. I also think it is addictive, you can never be too tan.

I stopped tanning...god, what is it now...8 years ago? I only use self-tanner now. But I live in AZ so I get those pleasurable UV side effects just by stepping out the door.
