    weight loss suggestions

    hi girls!

I wanted to get some suggestions or ideas about weight loss. I have been on a diet for about 3 weeks now (low-calorie diet) and hit a plateau. Do low-carb diets work better rather then counting calories?

    any feedback is appreciated!

    i don't believe in diets.

i believe in moving your body more often than you spend putting junk in it.

i stay in better shape by focusing on how much exercise i've done, rather than what i ate... (and i had beer and chinese food for dinner last night...)

I work out about 5 days a week (3 days a week weight training & 2 days cardio).. I am thinking about changing my diet to a low-carb instead of low-calorie after reading the previous threads

I watch what I eat and workout 6 days a week (and 30 minutes of cardio those 6 days). I also strongly believe that your weight, metabolism, food cravings, and energy can be controlled by your mind. I know it sounds weird but if you practice it enough you can do it.

low calories will force your metabolism to down regulate so that your body will be able to survive on less food. when that happens....IF you lose anything at all it will be about 5% fat and 95% muscle. you have to go on a rotation.....1 day high carbs, high protien, no fat-----one day moderate carbs, hi protien low fat-----and one day low carbs, hi pro. and moderate fat. works every time.....
i dont really do any cardio for my shows at all if possible. cardio is indiscriminate. it will burn as much tone muscle than fat if not more. you see.....your body does not give a shit about tone muscle.....but it can survive on fat stores. because of this....low calories and cardio tends to burn off mostly muscle.
let the proper diet burn off the fat and retain the sexy toned muscle. i'd rather be doing anything else than starving like a fool or doing cardio.
    hope this helps.

I think we should listen to Trish...I've looked at her website lol. Hot! Maybe the cardio is part of my problem...I've lost all the fat I want but can't seem to gain enough muscle. Oh well, I was just doing what the dingalings at the gym were telling me to do lol. I've always wanted a reason to give up cardio! I do eat a lot of calories though, I just try to make them good ones.

^^ awesome interesting advice. Its a new way of caloric cycling I havent read about yet then. Sounds like the perfect plan to shock your body.

Ive also noticed that more wieghts and less cardio helps burn more fat.

I was keeping my calories around 1200-1400 for the last month, but wasn't losing any weight. I'm not a fan of low-carb, but it worked for me in the past so I decided to try it last week.

It's been 5 days and I've lost 3.5 pounds. I know a lot of it is water, but it definitely is nice to see a smaller number on the scale. I plan on sticking with it for the next few weeks to see if I can lose 10 pounds.

I love Trish's idea! I used to do that with calories (very low calories one day, little higher the next, etc.). However, mixing up your diet seems like a great idea. At least it will keep me focused on putting healthier food in my body.

ok....u lost 3.5 pounds....cool. NOW have an up day...up your carbs to a lttle over double what you've been eating while dropping the fat to nil for a day. (always eat hi protien...every day.)then, go back to the lower carb diet you're on for another two-three pounds. your body has to "remember" what high carbs are to recognize the deficit when you cut them....seee what i mean?

trish, you have such great muscle and extremely low body fat - so i understand why you don't do much cardio. my sis was a bb for a while and a friend of mine did fitness. they fiendishly protected their mass by limiting cardio to short bursts.

however, most girls aren't so fortunate to have such low body fat and muscle mass to begin with - you would've seen your fair share of girls who can't seem to gain mass (irrespective of cardio). i seem to be naturally fairly muscular - and i avoid too much resistance because i bulk up far too easily and it makes it hard to do ballet. i do agree with muscle being a fat-burning machine but the girlies have got to grow some first...

to the other girlies: the body eats glycogen from the liver, then fat, then protein -- so muscle is last on the list if you have fat or fresh carbs it can eat instead.

for those about to quit cardio -- if you don't have similar musculature to trish, athletic build or do resistance/muscle building training... you're going to slow down in the fat-burning stakes without cardio

Found something that might give a grid as to what caloric cycling means in numbers:
    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/south9.htm
Scroll about over half way down and enter your weight and bodyfat% to find what you need

actually i am no different than any of the rest of theses girls...at all. the pics i posted are at contest time....i don't look like that all year---not by a long shot. i am 138# in those pics you see......and i am 160 right now (@5'2") contest time i was about 4% bf....right now i'm at around 13%. i have the same bs to go thru as anyone else and when i dont work out or eat right...i chub out just like the next guy. here is a very recent pic of me....
i stand by what i said earlier and think other than being good for your heart and cardiovascular system.....cardio is not the best way to burn pure fat....diet is. i respect your opinion....but imo...the fact that these gals probably don't have as much muscle as i do is MORE of a reason not to go cardio happy. they should speed their metabolism up with 5-6, hi protien, high nutrtionally dense foods, meals. that would help ensure no muscle loss like cardio would cause, and the frequent nutritionally balanced meals would stoke the metabolism. i hate to tell anyone to stay away from cardio...i mean it's good for the heart, etc., etc.,....but there are smarter ways to burn fat without spinning your wheels...no pun intended.

awww. shucks, lol!! thank you. but seriously....i think there are more efficient ways of losing bodyfat and maintaining it than doing tons of cardio. i'm a lazy ass...if i can eat more, do less cardio and still get lean---sheesh...u know which one i'm picking!

Isn't that kind of dangerous at that low? I mean I don't know, but it seems to me that's a scary low number.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I once heard that anything lower than 5% is bad for you. (That might have been a rumor, but again, I don't know.)

my period stopped but i welcomed that, lol. i got regular checkups throughout my dieting phase and was in perfect health.....so i'm not saying that wouldn't pose a problem for some people for whatever reason.....but it doesn't affect me negatively at all.

Trish does the same theory apply to men as well . I am just trying to loose some weight here . I am 250# 6'1 now and would like to get back down to 215-220ish . I have been doing an eliptical 6 days a week on a pretty advanced program 30 mins a day then I do around 100 sit -ups . I have been very busy the rest of the day swinging a pic axe and digging ditches in the yard ( three- hours a day ) . I stopped drinking alcohol ( about a month dry now ) and only drink water now ,have not touched a soda for weeks ( thats tough ) .So are you saying I should kind of switch back and fourth with my food groups etc . I have cut down my portions a bit but really have not changed my eating habits much .Can you help me out here ? tks

absolutely. once you get used to the rush, it's actually better to do that stack twice a day.....my husband even does it three times a day. did you sse what i wrote about cardio and fat loss on that other thread? i was just curious. i am not a big fan of cardio.....i go into detail more in that thread.

I find that cardio doesn't do a whole lot for me physically either. I am just a tad over 5'3" and go between 150- 160 #'s. When I hit the cardio hard my body doesn't really recognize it, so I HAVE to drop carbs to make a difference.

Did anyone ever here of eating for your blood type? I was just introduced to this, and it is quite interesting. I am following the diet for a while, but I got quite lucky! I am an O so I get to eat meat! Yay! Seriously though, check it out. It might work for you!

i had a look at that for a while. blood type. there hasn't been any study after that i'm aware of that conclusively confirms it. what i found interesting is that i already had a natural aversion to foods on my poison list. (like pork, shellfish etc).

it helped in picking food groups - but i figure the best way of eating is the one that makes you feel good, and your body will tell you.

i'm an O also. cutting out wheat/bread for a while was great to kick-start. although, as i mentioned, i generally already ate the way the book suggested. except for my total inability to give up caffeine and red wine. (i straight-up refuse: too much conflicting evidence that coffee and red wine are your friend)
