    Default Too lazy to search...

OK, I really did search but didnt find exactly what I was looking for and its easier to ask questions and talk back and forth about it on here.

So, today Im getting a weave...Ive never had extensions and Im actually kinda scared Not of the pain really but that theyll look like crap and stuff.

I got the Remi hair... I walked into the hair store and told them I wanted the best stuff they have. I got one weft. My girlfriend is doing my hair and ive heard that shes pretty good from others.

Anywho - Im just curious on the upkeep of the hair.. its 18" not too long but what about washing and care? Should I wash my hair less? Any special conditioners/shampoos? I dunno? My girlfriend has never done extensions on a white girl and doesnt really know much about the care of them for my hair.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm definitely not an expert, but this is how my hair girl told me to do mine. I have the glued ones btw. Only wash your roots, not the rest of your hair, you can wash it in a braid if its easier. She told me to mix the shampoo with 1/4 shampoo, 1/4 conditioner, and 1/2 water. Don't use conditioner on your roots, only on the ends/extensions. She recommended Allsoft, I believe its by Redken. I think its great. She also told me to only wash every other day. Also told me to sleep with it in a braid, and to get a syrum (sp?) I got biosilk, and use it 1-2 times a day. Hope that helps!

I have wax extensions. I only wash my scalp and roots, and the shampoo that runs down your back is enough to cleanse the lenght of your hair and get any smoke smells out. Use conditioner on the ends, and use some kind of a detangling spray after you get out of the shower. Sleep with it in a braid or ponytail. You probably can wash your hair as often as you like. I wash my hair every day that I have to work, and every other day when I'm not working.

Good choice. Remi is top grade hair, so PLEASE do not let your GF glue tracks in. When you glue tracks, use the cheap shit cause you'll just discard the hair anyway, cause it's such a low quality

I think the best thing for you to do would be to have her braid your hair, then attach the tracks via needle/thread technique. You're hair won't hold up as long as African American hairtypes though (which is usually 3-4months). Your hair it more thin, more fine so it may last anywhere from 1-2months...with 2 months REALLY pushing it.

Do not use any oil based products, or heavy coating products such as creamy conditioner type products. That will just weigh your natural hair down, and will do more damage than good. After you shampoo, you can use a leave in type conditioner (I like Infusium)

Any other questions, let me know.

^^Good care info. I just got my weave done again with better hair and technique this time.
I had to buy all new shampoo, conditioner and styling products. I forget I dont have coarse hair anymore.

Just for technique wise she braided my hair so that I have braids going horizontal on my head and slightly different at the crown. She sewed the longer hair pieces onto the horizontal braids.
When you wash your hair make sure you dry your braids on your head really good. Or else they can smell. I make one big braid at night to avoid a big morning detangling mess.

Oh the glue is awful, I hated it trying to get it out. The second time arounf I got smart and had it sewed in. A lot better looking and it lasted longer.

Also had braids with a weave it was a little tight at first but I got used to it.

Im kicking myself now... i DID let her glue them in.. yesterday and theyre already slipping. The bottom one almost came all the way so I took it out (it was really close to the base of my head and i wouldnt have been able to put my hair up without seeing it. The one around the crown is partway off. I KNEW I should have had them sewn in and wanted that but she couldnt get the braid tight enough because she had gotten her nails done.

Now Im pissed and just want them out. Im gonna re-glue the top one back in and see what happens. I am so mad at myself...should have gotten them sewn in like I wanted... damnit damnit damnit.

The hair was only a hundred bucks so Im not worried about $$ lost if I have to take them out but am seriously pissed that theyre comming out after ONE DAY

I got them yesterday and am already seeing the maintenance that comes with it. Damn, to dry them and curl them and ahhh... grrrr.... damnit...

Im glad I did this and tried extensions - now I know the good and the bad. I really like them but think Ill get the Fusion ones because I do NOT like the feeling of having tracts glued on my head... I may be happier if Id have gotten them sewn in but now Im just irritated.

I get mine glued in when I wear them and I love it, lol!

Mine only last about a week though, but I only pay around $20 each time I have them done, so it's not that bad.

^^^ Aww hun...it'll be alright. At least you learned from this.

Ok, so now that you know you want nothing else to do with bonding (glue tracks) go back to the wig store and ask for "bond remover" It usually comes in a white bottle, with red top. Anyway, Apply that where the glue is, and take a fine tooth comb and work the glue out. It will take the glue out without damaging your hairshaft, or tangling your hair into a big blog of glue.
