Default buccal fat removal; oh, those chubby cheeks!

Bucca-who? lol...I have very full cheeks which a lot of people find adorable..yet...I model in addition to dancing, etc...and in a lot of pictures, my face looks way too full and in images where you can't see my whole body, I am often perceived as being heavier than I really am based on my face or there is slight distortion because of the 'chipmunk cheek' look. I looked into buccal fat removal, which is a relatively minor surgery, fairly inexpensive (about 2k) and is done on the inside of the mouth with no scars. Basically, they remove the buccal pads on the inside of the jaw and, if it is extensive, will also do minor lipo. I think I'd be fine with just the pads removed and I have read the risks about removing too much because of its potential to create a'gaunt' appearance at a later age. However, I really think this surgery would be ideal for me to create a more 'streamlined' face....I've seen myself on film and in pictures and although I have been told I have a good profile (I lived in Hollywood), I think that the chubby cheeks sort of hold me back. Has anyone here ever done or know anyone who has done this procedure? I have emailed a surgeon in Pasadena but I couldnt even arrange a consultation until April (and I'm not in the US at the moment). You can check out links to see what the before and after's look like....For the record, I feel that I have a healthy self image and feel attractive in daily life, I just feel for the industry I am in, it is something that, if corrected, would result in an even better overall appearance. Your thoughts, gang?

    Dear London,
I've never had it done nor known anyone either but I do work in the profession (sorta). I'm a dental hygienist, and yes, there is anatomically a buccal fat pad, a little piece of fat that everyone has in their cheek area. I'm not sure what it's purpose serves;ie protection of teeth? Anyway, if you feel very strongly about having it done, I would strongly recommend that you see your dentist first and ask him for a couple of referrals. You want to make sure you go to a top notch oralfacial surgeon/plastic surgeon. There are oral surgeons who specialize in plastic surgery of the face. And it's really important that you get a few consultations before having it done, you don't just want to pick just anyone. When are you coming back to the US? I understand that you don't want to wait but IMO, it might be better if you took your time in having it done by finding the right doctor. Since you are having your face operated on, you want to make sure this doctor is the best. Just wondering, would losing like 5-10 lbs make a difference? I know for me when I lose weight, it makes my cheeks smaller too. I wish I had more info for you, good luck with it!

I would suggest you consider the long term consequences of such a surgery. Mainly about how your face will change as you age in your thirties and forties. Most women lose fat in their face as they age and it's often the only sign of their age when the rest of them is very fit and looking young. Most would kill for some nice cheek filling to give them that youthful look again

When inquiring about the procedure, also look into finding out what to expect a few years down the road. You may find out that the extra fullness you have in your cheeks now is what will keep you looking younger in your later years.

Do tons of research, look up the procedure and talk to those who have had it done.

    Good luck

It isn't recommended that the procedure be done before the age of 25, from what I've read, because as others say that layer of fat prevents our faces from looking gaunt as we age.

    Hey, Cookie!

Dr. Taylor was exactly the doc I was considering! Im nearly 23 and just really don't like how overly full my cheeks can look sometimes. I wouldnt want a huge amount of fat removed, just a bit. The fat pads being removed would be all I'd want, they also can do further lipo of the area and that wouldnt be what I wanted. There was a girl on, I think, Dr. Taylor's website, who was 21 at the time of her surgery and the after pic didnt dramatically change her face, just made it more defined. And, yes, Leo Girl, the only time my face seemed really thin was when I weighed 118. I now weigh about 125 and like my body as it is and have healthy eating habits. I was almost too thin at 118 because I had lost a lot of muscle tone and my parents were always wondering if I was 'alright' (lol). I will wait until I get back to the States, for sure, before considering it, so I may even be close to 25 by then, but thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I MUST agree. Dr. Taylor did my boobs and while he charges a bit more for the procedure - it was done in a hospital, that may be why - my boobs are fantastic, soft, and without any negative incidences at all. He IS the best!

Sorry, I realized that I meant Thomas Roberts, not Thomas Taylor:
