    Default bartender going on stage...

So, I totally adore all our bartenders and waitresses. They kick ass!!! BUT, tonight one of our bartenders went on stage and did a topless stage show. She made $600 on stage, so I heard, but I saw the PILE of money up there and I have no doubt in my mind that she made about that much. Anyway, we have to be licensed to work where I work and it costs $300 for it. Our manager told all the girls who are dancers that don't have a license that they can't work, but he allowed the bartender to go up and she BANKED!!! I am all for all my girls making money, but she isn't a dancer. I don't hold this against her, I hold it against management. I totally don't think it was fair for her to be allowed to do that. On top of it all, that is money the actual dancers could have made, wether it went to me or not. I just don't think that she should have been allowed to do that. If she wants to dance, she should; she's hot!!! If she did a stage and didn't go topless I don't think I'd be as bitter about things. My license is what allows me to go topless. Am I in the right thinking that it was a bad move on managements side??? I wasn't the only girl upset. All the girls I work with all get along and we really like this bartender, it just made us all a bit bitter. So I'd love some feed back. Am I just being jealous cuz she made $600 on stage or am I right in thinking that she shouldn't have been allowed to do a topless stage show?? xoxoxxx

This is a tough one, and I'm going to give you my opinion from a bartender's point of view (so I guess this is my admission of being biased.)

It was the management's fault for allowing it. Rules are rules, policies are policies. There shouldn't be any favorites, or people who can chose to obey the rules when they want. I would definitely bring this up to the mngmt.

However, plz plz don't take it out on the bartender. Maybe she didn't know about the money you guys have to pay to dance. If the boss gave her the green light, she's not doing anything "technically wrong" even tho it might be morally wrong, or questionable.

I dont know how much bartenders make at strip clubs, because I've always just done it at hole in the wall's. but some times I'll work ten hours and be lucky to make fifty bucks. Now that's pathetic. It makes me seriously consider wanting to dance.

One last thing...and I'm just trying to be the devil's adv.:

Would you be this upset if she only made fifty bucks? A hundred dollars? Also, does she ever refer customes to the dancers that she thinks are interested in buying dances?

Pesonally, I keep the my business my business, just b/c I'd lose my mind if I concerned myself with what the other bartenders are doing to make money.....

I hope this situation works out for you; it's never fun dealing with drama/policy at work!! best of luck!!

I would never take it out on my bartender... she is great!! Makes a killer drink. I have a problem with it because the city I work in is really strict and i wasn't allowed to dance until I got my license. I wouldn't want my club shut down because of something like this. Our bartenders and waitresses make great money most of the time.... often more than some of the girls!!!! More power to em for it too!!! Would I still be upset if she'd only made $50??? yes, I would actually, just because management has really been cracking down on the license thing this past week and some of my friends have been asked not to reurn until they get it. If I'd been hanging out with the guys who tipped her I might be more mad about the money, but I dunno. Bartender/waitress shows are awesome, i love to see them get up on stage and so does the crowd; get's them going if things are too quiet. I have even done a stage show with one of them, but she was told to keep her bra on. I guess in a nut shell it's the principal and the legal issues that are the real issue with me. OH! And yes the waitstaff helps out with customers and stuff like that and picking up the dressing room and cleaning the stage etc etc etc, and i ALWAYS tip them when I notice it. i used to waitress myself. Thanks for your bartenders point of view reply, liah. xoxoxxx

If its just about the legal issues and piece of mind for the club you are in the clear . But to me as I read about the industry as whole it sounds like there are many gray areas that mngmt does cross at times so it doesnt seem so out of the norm to me , but thats me on the outside looking in .

Well I can definitely understand being upset. However, as long as this was a once in a blue moon occurrence and isn't going to become an every week thing, I'd say don't stress it. Management may have already realized they were stupid and put the club in jeopardy. Or not, cause they're just stupid. In that case maybe you could point out the illegality to the bartender herself.

Hmmm.... well our bartenders wouldn't do that but it really pisses me off when we get a group of girl custy's that are young and never danced before and want to get up on stage topless. The guys love it cause they are all shy and new but I loathe this.

it should of never happend! management is at fault.
their is a philosophy behind why she made so much money though and its quiter simple. guys love the unatainable! and they know bar staff are kind of like the untouchables but alof of the customers feel befriended by staff as uppposed to entertainers because they become more social more regularly! staff is always their to talk to. so when given the oppurtunity to tip a staff member on stage they are more apt to do it out of friendship and pure excitiement than someone they see on stage 6 times a night. im a guy and at my christmas party i got drunk ran up on stage mooning the crowd and did a pole upside down pole trick and i made 150 dollars that quick. lol. dont take offense to it although again it should of never happend!

I'm not upset about it really. And I know guys like thw unatainable. I used to waitress so I understand. This bartender used tobe a dancer herself and she knows the rules and legal issues out here. But, as someine posted, as long as it isn't all the time, I guess it isn't a big deal. But, she was on stage 2 weeks ago doing a stage maintanence and there was still time left ing the song so she finished it off woth a few topless pole tricks. Oh well, I do consider her a friend and am just going to forget about unless it happens again. If it does, then I will say something to the head manager. Thanks for all your help. xoxoxxx

So the management decided that they will not be allowing the waitstaff to go on stage anymore, only licensed dancers. If it wasn't illegal it wouldn't have been an issue, but nobody wants the club closed down. Everybody's happy.

I'm glad to see everything worked out for everyone; it 's nice to know there are still people out there who consider the issue as a whole, rather than blowing up on somebody and causing crap at work. Best of luck!

I understand your position. First of all it wasn't legal. Second if a service staff person wants to be an entertainer then they need to switch to being an entertainer and stop doing the other job.

    There's a solution!

She still might piss everyone off though, because of the whole unattainable thing she's going to have going for her.

The one thing this sort of thing can do for the whole club and all the dancers is that sometimes the guys go crazy and love it, and stay longer, get all worked up and keep throwing money at everyone else, come back a lot more, etc. Sometimes breaking the rules will make the guys really love the club, and everyone benefits in the long run.

I have almost always gotten the various bartenders or waitresses up there at least once, if they look good and like to dance. But a little of this goes a long way, and it's best done towrds the end of the night, after everyone else has made good money.

I can sure understand your feelings about it, and there's also good reasons for not doing it as well, such as have been covered above.
