    Default marijuana after a BA

I'm not a pot smoker, but I'm thinking it might be worth considering having this around for after my BA to help with pain and sleeping. I'm hesitant to ask my doctor about it for obvious reasons.

Anyone know any pros and cons?

Just stick with the percosets. But I think since you aren't supposed to smoke cigs even after your surgery because it hinders your rehabilitation, weed wouldn't be any better. Just stock up on vic, percs, and valium pre surgery you'll be fine!

That's an interesting idea. Vicodin and Percocet make some people extremely sick. Whenever I've taken either of them, I've spent the next couple of days throwing up (and dry-heaving when there's nothing left in there). It's miserable. Marijuana, OTOH, suppresses the nausea center in the brain. I'm not a pot smoker either, but it *is* a valid medicine for some purposes, and a nausea-fighting pain reliever seems like a reasonable indication.

Too bad you're not in California, where you could ask about a prescription.

There is a lot of benefits you can reep (nausea, pain) from smoking marijuana but at the same time it's still as bad for your lungs if not worse than smoking cigarettes. I am allergic to percocet and darvocet. And I absolutely hate the feeling that morphine gives me. I prefer a shot of demerol and phenergan in the muscle. It lasts a lot longer than getting it intervenously.

Why so shy to ask your doctor about it? I'm not when it comes to such things. I'd rather know the straight up truth than do something stupid. The worse that they'll do is frown and give you a little speech, and even that's pretty rare in plastic surgeons. They tend to be quite understanding regarding such things compared to many other kind of docs.

In regards to smoking when recuperating, it's best not to. It's customary for smoking patients to be asked to stop smoking 2 weeks prior and after a cosmetic surgery, tobacco and other herbal products. It won't kill you to do so or create god awful effects but it will interfere with the healing process and slow it down. The risk for complications is higher in people that smoke compared to those that don't. With BA's the risk for capsular contracture is slightly higher if you smoke as well as unpleasant scars.

For my BA I wasn't able to completely stop smoking before or after and it was hell because of it. I managed to cut down to 4-5 smokes a day and 1 joint a night to sleep. I turned out ok and healed up very nicely but those are the risks I was told about by my doc.

If it's just for pain management and sleeping, ask your doc for good pain meds. Good ones will do the jobs your looking for just fine

Well if you do; eat it and dont smoke it. Like Rachel said you could cough causing the muscle holding your boob to erupt in an unpleasant manner.
Heres some information on the effects; http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabi..._effects.shtml

If you eat Green that had been soaked in butter, you can get the effects without having to cough through lungfuls of smoke, which could be painful & stitch-ripping. However, some people have extreme reactions after ingesting Green. A moderate amount ingested would not be a bad idea if you do not like opiates for whatever reason.

Um, I'm not sure taking pain meds is a better idea. I mean, they are quite addictive. Sure they make you feel good, but it's gonna be a lot easier to quit smoking pot then it will be to stop taking meds. I know from experience. My mom was given quite a few different prescriptions for different things, and got addicted to a few(most helped her sleep). I rather deal with pain naturally or with herbal medicine. Remember, pain can be controlled by your mind.

If smoking in general is bad for you after a BA, I would do what Tigress said, although it gives you a different feeling, more of a body high. I guess that would be better though, teehee.

Green~ I personally don't think it could be worse than smoking cigarettes(highly contraversial I know) but think about all those disgusting chemicals that are added into cigs...YUCK!

Agree with the eating it comment. Emily, PLEASE don't smoke ANYTHING after your surgery!

I would just stick to the pain killers (unless they make you sick to your stomach.) Besides, the medication isn't to make you feel good, it's to manage your pain. You'll likely take your meds for less than a week so the chance for addiction is very rare.

If you're gonna cook with cannabis, remember it's fat and alcohol soluble.

Hey, I think you SHOULD ask your doc about it! Why not? Just ask him what his opinion is on using cannabis to manage your post surgery pain. It's not like you're asking him for a prescription. Who knows, maybe he'll say it's not a bad idea.

Lol the brownies remind me of that movie Dick where the two girls make brownies with their brothers "special ingredient" and give them to the president...good stuff. But Emily I think if you just stick with your perscription pain medications then you should be fine and not have to do any extra drugs. Just tell your doctor that you have a high tolerence to percosets and that he should give you a higher milligram dosage.

hrm, I think I will ask him about it...and duh, didn't even think about how coughing would hurt. I would definitely have to eat it.

thanks guys. I guess the worst case scenario is that he lectures me.

have you ever ingested it? I have a friend who made it into butter and we ate it. I got soooo paranoid and was absolutely miserable and felt like I was having a heart attack. If I'd have just had surgery and felt that way I probably would have had a heart attack. I cough really hard if I smoke it because I rarely do so I guess that would be rought too. I'd rather the pain pills myself but it depends on how it affects you I guess.

If you don't smoke weed, I don't suggest doing a lot right of the bat. You will get way higher than a regular smoker. I remember before I did it regularly...HELLO! That's probably why you ^^^ felt that way. You probably just ingested too much. Plus, don't forget that it will take time before you feel high if you eat it, so don't keep eating more and more or you'll be flyin' amongst the clouds! WEEEE!

Yes, the inhalation of smoke is not good on your lungs. Look it up here on the net. I read somewhere before, don't remember where, that is as bad if not worse than cigarettes.

    What about pain pills?
Surgery DOES NOT hurt when you take the medicine the surgeon gives you.

Misha~ Marijuana definitely isn't good for you, but I don't imagine it could be as bad as cigarettes! I mean, with all the additives in cigarettes, they have to be hurting you somewhere along the line. Not to mention, cigarettes really do nothing for you except provide you with pretty little black lungs to accesorize with! At least marijuana provides you with some added benefits! Cigarettes are a stupid, stupid thing(I have quit now for 2 years!). They are so stinkin pointless! Anywho...I'm gonna shut up now, since this is pointless to go on about! You either agree with me or you don't. Just thought I'd throw my two cents out there!

Yea but there is 4 x the amount of tar in a typical sized joint as in a cigg. And you inhale and hold MJ for alot longer then a ciggarette. But IMO they're both not worth the bother.
