Default What do bouncers/floorman make at your club?

My husband works as a floorman/bouncer. I was wondering if anyone knows what bouncers/floormen get paid by the club? I just want to compare to see. I know they get tips of course. But my question is what does the club pay them?

At my club they get 25 cents over minimum wage per hour and each girl must tip a minimum of 1 dollar per dance they got. Depending per day or shift, they make their hourly wage plus between $40 to a couple hundred per shift on tips.

Minimum wage is 5.15 correct? What other duties do the floorman have besides watching the girls and custies? Ours has to take all trash out and clean the bathrooms.

Great Question! I've been wondering this same thing myself. In the Las Vegas club where I work, it seems like the floor hosts (aka "Bouncers") make a serious *grip* of cash. I've done some math, and if my calculations are correct they are averaging between $500 to $1,000 per night! (They are making more than 80% of the dancers!!!)

Here's how I came up with that number:

    • On an average night, there are about 100-150 girls working.
    • Using the 80/20 rule discussed in the Dancer Wealth seminar: There are about 20-30 "top earners"
    • From my own experience and observation, I know that "top earners" in my club average $1,000+ per night
    • I know that my friends and I generally tip between 10% and 30% (almost always at least 20%) to these guys, depending on the service / hookups provided. I'm guessing 20% is the average.
    • On an average night there are about 6-10 floor hosts working in my club.

So, let me be very conservative in my estimates and do the math:

    20 girls make $1,000 X 20% tip-out = $4,000
    80 girls make $200 x 20% tip-out = $3,200
    Equals a total dancer-generated tip-out of $7,200

Divided by 10 guys equals $720 per guy minimum on an average night (if they divide it equally - which they probably don't)

And this doesn't include tips received for seating guys at a table (which are all marked "reserved") and other tips received from customers!!! I figure this must come out to $100 per guy at the very least.

So that comes out to a GRAND TOTAL of $820 per guy minimum for an average shift. Like I said, this figure is very conservative, so I bet they usually come home with at least a $1,000 per night.

    ***

GIRLS: DOES THIS PISS YOU OFF? DO YOU THINK THESE GUYS DESERVE/EARN THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY TAKE HOME EVERY NIGHT?

GUYS: PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.

What do you do behind the scense that us girls don't see (and therefore can't appreciate)?

Do you consider your primary responsibility or job description to be "Sales" or "Safety" related? (I HAVE NOT ONCE BEEN "SAVED" BY A BOUNCER WHEN AN UNRULY CUSTOMER IS TRYING TO MOLEST OR OVERPOWER ME!!! NOT ONCE!!! I FEEL LIKE MY SAFETY IS MY RESPONSIBILITY IN MY CLUB. MY FLOORHOSTS ARE SALESPEOPLE MORE THAN ANYTHING.)

Unfornuately, for him, we have only 20 entertainers total with an average at about 8 entertainers per night.

The bouncers where I work make very little. I filled in after the shit went down at our club, just for one night. One of the owners gave me a 100 dollar bill, and that was generous, I think. Now the assistant managers who double as bouncers do pretty well, but they are more likely to help protect the dancers.

Very few of the dancers tip them.

They don't do much to protect the girls, except from each other, lol--that can be important, as I have seen some hellacious fights in the dressing room. But I can personally testify, they have to deal with some very hairy situations once in a while on the floor.

Can't say as I blame them much for not doing more, but the whole situation sucks...I couldn't handle being a bouncer for long in my club, I'd be punching some of these assholes and getting fired, even if I could stand the low pay.

I'm not surprised to hear about the bouncers in Vegas, I've heard of valet parking guys clearing 80,000$ a year. But they shouldn't make more than the dancers, for chrissakes.

Wow, the boys here make $8/hr and tipping is not encouraged @ the club. Some dancers will tip though if the door guy goes and warms their car up etc.

At every club I've worked at, the bouncers and doormen make minimum wage (6.75) and whatever the girls decide to tip them (probably 10 bucks or so, depending on their night).

The funciton of floorman and bouncer are different in various areas ot the country and depending on club size. Consider a medium size showbar, say about 4,000 to 6,000 s.f.
I like the model where the bouncers are security and do not interact much with the customers. It is a mistake to put security guys out as customer service or PR guys. An attractive female is better in this respect at the door for customer service. The model I dislike is the floorman model, in which the floor man is thinly disguised security but pretends to be customer service. The customer service funcitons are un needed by these floormen. Those funcitons are matching the cutomer with a dancer, and getting a tip for showing a customer to a table. The clubs I like are those with real security guys who are paid for security and are professional. These individuals may or may not have good people skills, but you don't care because they are clearly security. Bad guys think twice about messing with them if you think about it. Floormen who are PR customer service types doubling as security are fine for the average drunk, but can get themselves in trouble with dealing with real bad asses because they are really not professional security. Also off duty cops make bad floormen, and should not be utilized for obvious reason in roles that are not clearly security only. Customers tend to resent floormen who are acting as customer service. When the club models are set up, owners think this is the only way that the security guys can get paid as to have them do customer "non service" and get tipped for it, when they are not thinking about the real roles and real customer service in their club organizations. I am not a dancer as most members on this board know, but I am very concerned about the business models in clubs and the lack of organization and thinking behind many of them. Such lack of organization causes much of the organizational dis function in many clubs in their daily operations.

In summary, security bouncers deserve their pay and need more tips and fewer bouncers.
Floormen deserve little or any tips when they aren't really security.

They get paid the same as the rest of us, $2 per hour plus tips. Our doorguys are bouncers when needed so custies usually fork over a buck after paying cover and/or buying singles, entertainers tip anywhere from $3-$10. On a night shift with 40 plus girls working that's a nice chunk of change. The day doorguy gets min wage since only 12-15 girls work day.

    50 dollars a shift,
and tip out nightly ranging from 20 to 40 girls, including customer tip out i would say on average 1200-1400 a week, easily.

How many nights a week do they work, Kyle? Our bouncers don't get enough nights, especially with the already low pay.

On the other hand, it is pretty boring work sometimes--I wouldn't want many nights if it was me.

The bouncers and floormen bank at my club. Not only do they get an hourly wage, above the minimum, they get a percentage of every dancer's tipout.

During the week, it's a cake walk for them to walk away with a minimum $250 in cash, but on the weekends with there being 80+ girls that number can jump up to $500, not to mention what they're being tipped on the side from customers and other dancers. This number fluctuates quite a bit, but they still don't work as hard as the girls.

What's even funnier than that is what the DJ walks home with. Sometimes it's a hell of a lot more than the bouncers and dancers combined and I bet his feet doesn't hurt a bit.

It used to. I've come to accept that if I walk out with x amount of money, I don't care what anyone else makes.

Most of the bouncers/hosts I have worked with are not tipped and earned about $6/hour.

For those earning over $500/shift, they are in a rare, coveted position. Thousands of strippers have the opportunity to earn that where as maybe 100 or so of doormen/hosts do. If you think of it that way, there is not much reason to be jealous. You know darn well that they have to do a lot of schmoozing to get and keep their jobs. We can be divas if we so choose.
