Default there's a ghost in my office...

    or is there?

whenever i'm downstairs, the floor directly above creaks at weird times. it's not the light fitting and it's not expansion/contraction of the timber because it is not consistent with heat changes. it does it whenever it wants when noone is up there.

i have decided i have a ghost. not because there probably is one but because i haven't even so much as sniffed at a ghost my whole life. (what does a ghost smell like anyway?)

why does everyone else get ghosts, voices, evp, dead people blah blah?

    i don't get shit.

have you ever seen a ghost, spectre, poltergeist (or poltergoose in my house), creepy sheeeeeit? or weird things in photos that aren't busted photo shop smoke?

    ?

I've only had a couple of experiences that I really can't explain, and I assume that it was something other than an accident or something that just happened.

It was early on Mother's Day morning (2 AM-ish or so), and I was in the shower. I had randomly reflected on the fact that it was Mother's Day, and I began to cry (I was still missing my great grandmother...I was very close with her and had lost her a few months before).

Nobody else was in the bathroom (Mox was in the bed), but all of a sudden there was a loud crash and the lights went out. I freaked out, of course, and scrambled out of the shower reaching for the light switch. After I finished showering I looked at the floor, and my shelf had fallen off the wall. The nail was still in the wall, and there was NO way that thing could have just dropped like it did- both Mox and I agreed on that.

Was it Mam-Maw telling me not to cry? Dunno...but sure seemed like it.

Yes,I have.I once lived in a turn-of-the-century house in which a young girl drowned in the tub.Everytime you turned on the shower faucet, you could hear crying. The kitchen cabinets would open by themselves and other odder things have happened while I was there.

Ohh! Creepy! It's sad, but this is what I worry about while looking for a house to buy. I don't want to share it with a ghost (though Mox doesn't mind at all). Gives me the creeps!

You know what? When you buy a house that has had a murder, you can get it for a lot cheaper than the regular listed price. These are called stigmatized properties. There was once a guy that bought a 200K house for 99K because there was a murder in it.

^ I wouldn't mind a happy or protective presence, but really: if you were a happy ghost would you be hanging out on Earth? probably not.

    madmaxine, where are you? lol

anyway, i just moved into a new place (within my apartment building) and it's decidedly haunted. it's a turn of the 20th century building. had some weird shit happening, but then, i thrive on it, lol. ghosts are my friends. if you get a negative feel there are ways to befriend them and happily coexist. i'm usually disappointed when i suspect paranormal activity and it turns out to be nothing, haha.

I'm going to be good and let that one go. I'm not going to comment on the ghosty orbs. I'm not going to comment on the ghosty orbs.......

i live in a massive 100 year old brick building that has been converted to 87 apartments. it was originally a massive wool-storage place.

there must have been heaps going on in here - and sometimes i imagine i can *sense* something but mostly i'm just full of shit. (like the chic out of team america)

i got "goof-bumps" (as i call it) on the mirror story. great imagery.

well, i read ghosts can also be people who are quite well and alive visiting you while they're asleep. astral projection... like if you wake up in the middle of the night and see a ghostly figure standing at the foot of your bed, can be someone who knows you dreaming of you maybe... we all do it at night. ever had a dream that was really vivid, you've been places, and even though you may have slept 8 hours or more you woke upi really tired? you've been a "ghost" somewhere. i was really in love once with someone who was in love with me, and we would have this incredible connection where we would meet in a dream state and it was soooo much more than a dream. astral plane.

and besides, nothing disappears, only changes shapes, something like that. energy remains. in old places it's accumulated. some people are more sensitive some are less. some are less, and don't want to believe, but the energy and be too strong and pervasive to ignore.

OK, this reminds me of the time my ex claimed his store (an electronics store) was haunted by a female ghost. He said it half-jokingly because he was a very cynical person. Anyways, all the employees claimed they would smell perfume & feel a cool breeze in the same place on the store floor. I remember saying, Why would a female ghost haunt an electronics store?...I hated having to come in there, it was dull.
So yep, it could be something "just hanging around" for reasons unknown. I am a big believer in appeasment for nice spirits, if there's no problems, then everyone can co-exist. Some people will ask (nicely) for a spirit to leave, & it usually works. Bad ones do exist and should be forcibly driven out, as bad energy does seep into a dwelling.
My answer to "detecting" ghosts has to do with the subjective sensitivity of each individual person. A more scientific method is with electrical equipment that measures detectable energy coming from unknown sources.
There is plenty of good info on the "Internets" about this, as ghostbusting, believe it or not, is a popular hobby.

I don't know if "ghosts" are actual spirits of the dead (or living as pissymissy said), or just figments of the human imagination. Of course there is no disputing that a poltergeist is very creepy, but there are schools of thought out there that the "ghosts" could be manifestations of the human mind, like telekenisis.

I'm sure that before too long some pharmacutical company will figure out how to classify ghost sightings as a personality disorder, and then perscribe a pill to make the person all better.

As a side note, I've seen ghosts, and do see them frequently. I still don't know if it is all in my head or of I really am witnessing a paranormal event.

It depends. When I've seen them they are sort of either misty looking figures or like a shimmering light. Thats about as best as I can descibe it. Sometimes I feel them more than anything, a sudden unexplained drop in temperature, goosebumps etc. The scarest thing for me though was hearing unexplained noises - it's in one of the other ghost threads. You should do some reading to get better aquainted with them (-:

Yes, Paris, do share. I do not "see" ghosts because my vision is poor, but I feel them. AND I always say, Of all the people in the world, strippers are hyper-aware of unwanted touching/ invasions of personal space because it's a workplace hazard of ours....
My best pal has better luck (? if you wanna call it that) in terms of seeing ghostly hijinks. "They" seem to like her.

Yes, I saw one once. I was living in a house that had used to be a funeral home, not to mention was quite old. Well, one day I had decided to take a nap, but for some reason went into my mother's bedroom. Out of nowhere I woke up and there was a chilliness, not really in the air but it was there(hard to explain). I saw a rather vivid little girl. She had brown wavy hair, a red shirt and pink shorts. Although her body was very vivid, her fave was not too clear. It had a sort of haziness about it, almost like their was a veil over her. I will never forget her. I was so in shock, I covered my face with the blanket and fell back asleep. Then suddenly woke up again and it happened to me again three times(it felt like it only took a couple of seconds). After the last time, she was just gone.

I never said anything about it to anyone, until a few years later. My mom's friend's daughter stayed over at our house. The next day she told my friend something about seeing ghosts...that it happened to her all the time(she was 12 at the time). So my friend came and told me, and explained to me what she had explained to her. It was the same little girl. I told my mom about it, and she said that she saw a few in her room as well. Then I mentioned a little girl, and she described her the exact same way.

I had never seen one before, and have never seen one since. I think I really had an open mind at that time. I am too afraid to see them. I cannot mentally handle it. My grandmother was schizophrenic, and I have always been scared that I would end up like her. There is no way I could handle seeing spirits all the time.
