    Bruising?

    Hey everyone...

So I've only worked two nights as a dancer and my knees are TORE up. I don't really do pole work so I'm mostly on my 4's on linoleum doing my stage routine.

My knees are bruised very badly. Is there a certain medicine that I could take to reduce the appearance and pain? I feel so guilty to myself for effing up my body so badly Also, is there some sort of food I should eat to supplement my body with the right vitamins, etc., to reduce bruising? And lastly, what should I use to cover up these unsexy marks?

    Thanks a million....

Iron... Unfortunately I come home a lot with mysterious bruises, bumping into chairs as I try weave through on tip walks...

But, I'm anemic so I bruise easily... Iron will help if you can stomach it... I can't it makes me nauseous...

Dermablend will help cover them if they are serious... Maybe try wearing thigh-highs if they are really bad...

Stay away from aspirin. It's a blood thinner, and it will make you a very easy bruiser.

Glucosamine sulphate is good for the joints and cartilage. You can take it as a tablet supplement or you can buy it as a gel and rub it on your knees.

Arnica is also highly recommended to treat pain from bruises. Many people swear by it. A girl I once worked with used it after she underwent cosmetic surgery and she said it worked extremely well.

Really, the arnica gel is your best bet for something topical. Otherwise I would really up your vitamin C as it speeds the bruising up so it heals faster.

When my legs look less than stellar, fishnets and stockings are also my best friends. Not many girls at my club wear them, so I always got tons of compliments.

bananas are good to help you stop brusing, Plus after a while, your body will build up an immunity to the floor and the brusing will stop for the most part. When you start ple work though, you will bruise from that too! good luck

Another tip: you might want to consider wearing boots that go past your knees (thigh-highs for instance). They will help protect them, and even more so if you wear a pair or two of high length socks under them. I also know girls who do this.

Arnica gel is a miracle worker. If I put some on my bruises that night, they're just light red the next day and disappear within 2-3 days. If I forget to put it on, then my bruises will go on to being blue and yellow.

Also -- what about kneepads? They can be hidden underneath boots very easily, go well with fishnets, and make sliding around the floor much easier -- I get less friction with kneepads then without, so I look a lot more fluid doing floor work. I've also seen some girls bring out plush blankets to lie on for their work -- with some practice, you can make the blanket glide around pretty dramatically.

A lot of girls laugh at me when I mention kneepads, but a lot of girls also mention having weird deposits in their knees, loud noises coming out of their knees and constant pain.

A lot of girls at my club use a faux fur rug (I just bought some yardage at Jo Ann Fabric and cut it to the size I wanted). I think it looks cute and makes you stand out a bit. I got a three step cover makeup from a local dancer store that works well. Thigh highs, obviously, are a great solution.

Also, someone already mentioned this, but I wanted to reiterate: your body will "get used" to the wear and tear and will bruise much less the more you dance. I have no idea how this works, but it does. My legs were HIDEOUS when I first started. I cannot even describe to you. Sounds like you're going through the same thing. It will get better. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but trust me

I think you should always use a blanket/rug when doing floor work!
It's WAY cleaner, for one- open wounds + dirty stage = grossness. Also helps protect you from bruising, and there are lots of moves you can only do with a blanket (spinning on your back with legs up, for ex.).

It might seem weird at first if your club isn't used to it, and is somewhat impossible if you work at the kind of place where you spend your time on stage grabbing tips, but it's worth considering.

Also, eating pineapple helps to heal bruises quickly.

I have a huge bruise on my thigh and I haven't even been dancing. I don't even know how I got it. I bruise sooo easily it's not even funny.

I've developed these two matching knots on my lower back. Girl at work says it's from the heels and that they won't go away without electrico shock therapy and that my back will become "swaybacked"! Is this true????
Edit: the condition is really called lordosis... The base of my spine/buttocks area is really swollen and I have the two matching knots on either side of this area.
