I saw a debate on this subject on another forum, and found it interesting. I thought it would be interesting to see the thoughts of people who work a lot closer to prostitution than the students engaging in the debate.
I'll start:
I feel that prostitution should be legalized and regulated. In Nevada and in countries that have legalized prostituion there is less of a problem of prostitution related crime (underage and child prostitution, drug addiction, human trafficing). If prostituion were legalized then LE could concentrate on the child porn industry, the human trafficing industry, instead of spending money on trying to arrest consenting adults engaging in a victumless crime.
I understand that our Judeo-Christain heritage is a major factor as to why prostitution is now illegal. But this really doesn't seem to be a good enough reason why the business of sex-for-sale is not permitted. Today in the US only 37% of the ENTIRE population attends church regularly, and just over 50% even consider themselves at all religious. For a country that touts a separation of church and state, it seems that this issue is strongly siding with a church influenced law. A totally victumless crime when conducted between two consenting adults.
I say legalize prostitution, regulate prostitutes much like food handlers or cosmetologists are regulated by local agencies. That way the cops can concentrate on real crimes like child prostitution and the sex slave trade.

I believe you Dottie and you have my support

about your worry. I don't see it as 'real' esp. since brothels have been operating within Australia here (even locally on the Gold Coast) for AGES without affecting the strip clubs that much ... if at all.
