    Default What's your cover story?

Im thinking of starting dancing to fund my way through medical school. But... pretty much everyone in this environment is the kind of person that would look down on stripping and if I got caught out by any of my professors or doctors it'd be hard to live down and might even damage my future career

What do you tell people when they ask about your job? What excuses do u come up with to friends for being busy at night?

Well, generally I refuse to give excuses. But when it's just a social lubricant type of thing I say I'm a bartender. ("Where?" Oh, different places, I work for an agency that sends me wherever I'm needed. "Cool! Where are you gonna be tonight?" I'm such a ditz, I don't know. Someplace on the north side? I wrote it down at home...). But generally if it's other students I tell them the truth or tell them I do "different things" or I smile and say it's a secret. If it's a professor they generally know better than to ask.

it's definitely not worth your 'older, saggy person' career to tell the establishment that you are/were a stripper.

i always left the country to do my strippy deeds - and told everyone i worked in a bar. (just happened to have topless lapdancing girlies in it!)

if you are staying local - protect yourself. people are judgemental and stupid when it comes to this job, despite it being perfectly legal.

oh, and as for being busy at night... library... studying... got a practical tomorrow... group project... very admirable pursuits...

you could say you are a corporate hostess - you work at private corporate functions. that way they can't track you down easily. i did that job as well - at functions for 300 people -- so unsuspecting snoopers can be decoyed.

I tell my very close people (mom, dad, boyfriend) the truth. Everyone else, depending on my mood I lie and play mind games with like make up a story that makes no sense or just tell them the truth too. But a lot of girls from work who hide it just say they're a waitress.

Friends are seriously the last people to worry about. I'm working on my masters in library and information services. When I first started dancing four months ago I was paranoid as hell about anyone finding out. At this point I honestly could give a flying fuck. What are they going to do about it? I have no plans of applying for jobs in this state.

On that note however, one night at work I met a guy who used to teach at a medical school in my area. He told me how the rest of the faculty somehow found out that one of their students was dancing. Apparently they got all pissy about it but ultimately realized that there wasn't a godamned thing they could do to stop her and they had to just accept her choice.

It would ABSOLUTELY hurt your carrer. You are a waitress, a singer, a....whatever is socially acceptable, but you are absolutely NOT a dancer if you want to be a doctor. Trust me, in the medical field employers do backgroud checks along with your pre-employment interviews, so you need to do everything to make sure that dancing doesn't show up and that you make no references to dancing...at all.

If you don't want people to ask you about your job, just tell them you are in multi level marketing for a company that used to be called Amway, but is now known as Qwickstar in the US.

That shuts most people right up, and they will never ask you about work again .

Other MLM companies are: Herbalife (those people used to walk around wearing buttons saying: "lose weight now, ask me how"), Nuskin, Mary Kay cosmetics, Avon, Pampered Chef, and Tupperware to name a few.

This makes for a great coverstory because no one wants to listen to a sales pitch, and most of the time if you are doing an "in-home-party" or something, this will be at night or on weekends, so you have to be out at night.

Passion parties is another one that might work for you . Those ladies sell vibrators, dildoes and lingerie . That should get you some interesting looks from nosey bodies!!

Hey.. you forgot my favourite! Freelife International ! I will mention the other "juice" MLMs... Noni International, MonaVie, Xango, etc All nutritional juice companies (network marketing).

If you do want to go down the MLM/Network Marketing path... there are PLENTY of companies out there. Do your Due Diligence and you won't get burnt.

I'm a bartender in a hispanic/latino nightclub where nobody speaks any English and it's in a really bad neighborhood. So, family/friends have no interest in coming to see me and visit the club. When they ask why I work there, I just say we are REALLY busy so I make good money and that's the only reason I stay. Besides, everyone knows that "beer" and "tequila" are universal terms
